There was actually meaningful storyline progression in DBZ, unlike Bleach. I’d take anything up to and including Cell Saga DBZ over anything post-Zabuza or post-Grand Fisher, IMO.
muso: In a (admittedly not deep) look throughout the later bits of the series, every time that a big fat energy beam is let loose, someone (usually Krillin or the person firing it) warns that it can blow up the planet if aimed improperly. Even though powers grow exponentially, it’d be downright ridiculous if they were unable to control their power so that the mere flexing of their ki auras didn’t rip the planet apart, especially since Nappa made the earth shake when he powered up to a measly ol’ 5000 BP. I’d get into more about it, but I don’t feel like it.
So its like naruto… To me, outside of the charging up. All the actually fights between two people in naruto involved the same thing with less fighting. People just taking turns showing off stronger moves, and or spamming the same move until it hits. The story for naurto imo is just ok, I much more interested in every other character but naruto.
DBZ imo (especially dragon ball z kai) is greater than naruto because I can enjoy both great fights and some cool/funny moments with a solid story. If i went back and tried to watch all of naruto from start till now It’d be torture.
The best thing about it would be the fact that in 10 years nothing has really progressed in naurto. They started trying to get sasuke back almost 5 years ago and still aren’t any closer than when they started.
And people complain about a episodes of dbz being full of yelling and powering up…
I haven’t seen Kai. I’ve heard it was a lot better than the original, and sticks more solidly to the manga storyline as well. As I haven’t seen this yet, my opinion is biased to the original DBZ anime. Also no, I haven’t read the DBZ manga.
I’ll have to watch that first (read the manga, which I have no time to do, LOL) and then compare I guess.
In the grand scheme of things Naruto is really nothing more than Shonen Jump’s flashy anime/manga pop-culture series. It’s a money squeezer; Let’s be real about that. So was the original DBZ. Another mistake of fleshing things out to make money rather a story. Disappointing IMO.
But IMO, I think I just like Ninjas better than Saiyans.
those nins you mentioned are dangerous to anybody in the manga at the times when they where alive (even now). zabusa was always shit, do you know wtf you talking bout?
IF naruto did go gt what it wont do btw, and the power levels go dbz it wouldnt matter shit. the powerful nins at that time where the most powerful nins of their time. zabusa wasnt anywhere close to being something like this. he liked lil kids, he was like a weak oro jackson. cept oro actually mattered. zabusa never was shit to begin with.
this aint dbz where characters get 100000 times stronger than they initially where, or even a million times stronger (kid goku, ssj3 goku). naruto makes some sense in that very strog nins, even back 20 years or 60 ago are still strong because of their repsective jutsus and their eliteness. when dealing with a once in a 10 or 100 years genius, you get shit like this. it aint dbz where they go boom, we was a flea, now we is a whale.
also the idea of fuck the rookies is just that. with naruto and sasuke we got once in a lifetime geniuses. same for most of the akas and kages, but these 2 are even more special. if the rest of the rookies actually did something that mattered, it would also implie that they have gotten 10 once in 10 year geniuses status. in other words a once in a year genius.
shit doesnt work like that, not everybody can be mj. not everybody can be kobe, and thats a good thing. for a normal nin the epitome of strength is kakashi or gai. with anybody beyond them your dealing with a once in a decade sort of genius, meaning they dont appear often. and even kakashi or gai level strength is out of the leageu of most “normal” nins. which is even better imo. the normal epitome of a non once in a lifetime genius is around asuma or kurenai level, which fits the series just perfectly. even kakashi and gai are special to a degree. among the normal folk, they be special.
would you rather have it from the eyepoint of ino or 1010? its good to remember where watching shit through the eyes of the greatest motherfuckers that have ever existed in this universe. and we got to see them grow up to what they are becoming, which is real nice imo. something that dbz did and hxh is still doing (when will killua grow up? will gohan, i mean gon shrink again?)
all this being said, hxh needs to come off that fucking hiatus again. now i only check bleach for the lols and the only shonen is pretty much naruto now, at least the one i really follow. adding hxh back would be nice, especially now that we lost fma. and fma wasnt even weekly. its like im detoxing from good manga and anime. i only get shot every now and then.
Every decade they get a “once in a lifetime nin’s…” That is shown to have more potential or be even more powerful than those of past.
From almost everyone in the leaf to all of Akatsuki to kimimaro these “rare” breeds aren’t so rare anymore.
Goku was indeed a rare breed and only got that way because of his “fighting genius” and from learning Humanity" Gohon and trunks and the reset had more potential then goku because of the mix of sayjian and earthling blood. people who are stong or have been strong in dbz’s history are still strong. The only difference is there isn’t really anyone stepping to goku because he’s pretty much the strongest in the universe. Outside of those from “Another dimension” or magic…
naruto is drawn from dbz… and they def didn’t drawn from dbz best points either.

watching dragon ball z KAI really changed my opinions about the show, i mean i liked the original dbz anime as a kid but man did the way it got dragged out piss me off, so now watching it in the form it was intended by the manga is awesome…
The problem with the whole Dragonball/Naruto comparison is that it usually results in comparing the “Z” period of Dragonball with the ENTIRETY of Naruto, which just doesn’t work. The only proper comparison would be Naruto (starting with Zabuza) and Dragonball (starting with Pilaf) from beginning to end (which we can’t really do anyway, since Naruto has yet to finish). The ridiculousness of the fighting in the “Z” portion of Dragonball doesn’t mean nearly as much if you don’t compare it to the initial fight between Goku and Roshi, just as the fight between Pain and Naruto is just flash with no substance if you don’t compare it to Naruto’s desperate struggle against Haku. Yeah, “Z” tosses aside older secondary characters pretty fast, but “Shippuden” does the same. It would be like comparing “Shippuden” to the entirety of One Piece. It just doesn’t work.
the difference is that in dragon ball to dragon ball z you have a completely discontinuous story, between naruto and shippuden the story focus is still the same.
naruto -> shippuden. Sasuke runs away in pre shippuden, they are are still trying to find him/take him back in shippuden. Akatsuki begins moving to try and capture all the tailed beasts in pre shipuuden, in shippuden akatsuki is collecting tailed beasts.
DB->dbz. Pre DBZ they fight off piccolo, and do some world tournaments. DBZ, aliens invade to destroy the planet. DBZ and DB are basically not connected at all, it’s the same characters in a different story. pre shippuden to shippuden is still the same story, there’s just a 3 year gap.
