Just FYI, for those comparing CPS3 and Naomi, it is really apples and oranges. Every experience I’ve had with anything with polygons in MAME has been horrible. My computer is reasonably beefy.

MAME does not support hardware acceleration. That might be a huge performance hit.

M.A.M.E is mostly CPU power, its not like quad cores are not readily available now and at a cheap price, AMDs new quad core is easily affordable:wink: heck even the Intel quad core is affordable

These are old games by now afterall. My entry-level Dell laptop with Integrated graphics can play all the mame stuff and CPS-3 perfectly.

Modern, basic comps probably won’t have a problem with Naomi as long as the emulation is done well.

Well I guess you have a right to dream. And its not so far-fetched that someone else attempts Naomi emulation geared at playability after MAME gets it running.

Have you ever given thought to why PSX games run so slowly in MAME when most PS emus can give you perfect speeds even with junkware (by today’s standards) PCs ?

Thanks for the Sean stage bug report, I had noticed a crash in New Generation before but was unable to track it down, it?s not crashing under gdb here which is a little annoying but I?m almost sure it?s just going to be an out of bounds access reading from the spritelist or similar.

What?s left to do? Understand it properly, especially the backgrounds / priority / zooming. See how alpha comes into it, the only evidence of alpha I?ve seen is that warzard shot that was posted here ages ago, everything else just looks like shadow sprites, not real alpha so I?m not sure if it really supports it.

Interrupt generation is messy right now, probably need some tests on real hardware. The exact way a lot of the remaining hardware registers work is also unknown, there are two fullscreen zoom registers, exactly what each one relates to I don?t know.

That’s wayyy too easy to say when you’re living in a city with a scene. I do get where you’re probably coming from; I might be saying the same thing if I lived in Seattle too.

None of us actually think that sitting alone in front of your computer enduring six frames of lag is better than being in an arcade or even in the same living room as your opponent. I can’t even imagine how lazy or scared you’d have to be for that shit to be your preferred option. I promise you that nobody believes this is an equal replacement!

For some of us though, it’s the best substitute. The nearest scene for me is a six-hour drive away! I’m more than happy to travel to tournaments but it’s not feasible to do that every Saturday night.

Sure I have buddies here who like the game, but these are guys who don’t want me to pick Cable or Sent anymore because I learned to combo kicks into AHVBx2 and I corner-trap with flying stomps and CapCom AA. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve known some of them since kindergarten and I really wouldn’t trade them for any other friends… but it does make my inner nerd long for like-minded players, let alone skilled competition.

Bottom-line: I’d rather play online than not get to play. :lol:

What about the glitch (I forget the name of it) where you can get your cr. short to come out immediately without executing it? At the high level of play I have seen, no one does it because they can do better than the glitch, but that’s basically an easy mode way to get the first cr. short in before your opponent does, which seems silly as hell to me and fundamentally changes the game…

And I don’t play marvel, I have just seen a very high level of play here so I have a respect for the game (I play ST).

I’m not a marvel player. I’m just saying that in a game as execution-heavy as Marvel that online play for it seems… yeah, silly IMO when Magneto’s cr. short is two frames.

What about the glitch (I forget the name of it) where you can get your cr. short to come out immediately without executing it? Mmmm, good points all, and I agree. Marvel is probably more poorly suited than other popular fighting games, but it’s worth reminding that online play for ANY fighting game has never been perfectly suited for high-level competition… even when we’re talking top-notch GGPO quality. I’m a complete beginner in Marvel so this has little or no effect on me personally. Scrubs like me will probably love it just the same.

I’m a ST player too… it’s all I know how to play!
Even so, nothing has improved my game more than playing on Kaillera, lag and all. There’s just nothing like getting raw experience against skilled opponents, and I’ve never enjoyed the game so much before.

I am consistantlly amazed by the lack of understanding of emulation by the people on this board. You won’t be playing Naomi games in MAME anytime soon, I don’t care how well your computer plays 10 year old 2d games. Now if another party uses what the MAME teams figures out, thats another story.
