Hopefully a team will release a standalone emulator for Naomi games like the nebula team did for CPS3. That would make it more likely an emulator with full speed will come out faster.
The skill cap online will be tremendous for MVC2, but this is definitely something good. This will be a breakthrough
Is Naomi more complex that CPS3? if so by how much? What would be the minimum sys req to run Naomi in someones opinion?
It’s like Sega Genesis vs Saturn, there’s a HUGE difference.
The minimum sys. requirements are going to be the same as the ones to run DC emulators now since the system is the same but with more RAM.
At full speed ? In MAME ? Can’t really say but I can tell you no system you can buy will run it.
If you aren’t talking about MAME, this may be true. If someone emulates the Naomi board in the same way as Chankast/nullDC do (i.e not 100% software emulation, using hardware acceleration/plugins etc.) then I guess your analysis isn’t unreasonable. If you mean running in MAME at any speed, then you probably won’t need a powerful system at all.

Why does anyone really care if MAME will be slow or not? If another emulator can pick up where they fail and make it work at full speed, then we’re good to go. Aren’t we?

I can play MVC2, CVS2, on nullDC at full speed, if NAOMI and DreamCast is about the same…shouldn’t I be able to run it if its emulated the same way?
Well, the thing is, Naomi is ever-so-slightly more powerful than the DC.
But there is a good chance that someone will resort to some more extreme emulation methods if the information is out there (don?t know what I?m getting at? Look up Corn for N64, for example). MAME goes for perfection; you don?t need perfection for it to be good enough to play.
I?d still like to get my dirty hands on a real Naomi or Atomiswave, but I?m dirt poor ._.
It’s not going to be.
See, nullDC reinterprets instructions going to the 3D processor as native windows 3D instructions and as such is handled by your video card. HOwever, the design philosophy behind MAME is that the CPU has to interpret everything and as the CPU would then be busy reinterpreting the NAOMI’s CPU instructions but also the video chip’s as well. Which is far slower, but much more accurate.
