This is true, but MAME will lead the way for other emus that are more concerned with output then perfection.
I think the 3D backgrounds in Marvel are pre-rendered, so it’s not really going to impact performance anyway.
Kaillera MvC2 is quite possibly the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of.
It won’t matter, its not possible to emulate the Naomi architecture the way MAME does it and have anything run at a decent speed on mid-high level PCs.
Probably, I certainly hope so. I just don’t want people to have unreasonable expectations :(. This isn’t CPS3.
By the time NAOMI’s cracked and in the MAME tree, newer, faster and better CPUs will be on the market.
funny you say that, the CPU in the NAOMI/DC is an SH-4, which is a newer version of the SH-2 running in the CPS3 with beefier floating point.
I’ll bet that the bottleneck for emulation is going to be the weirdo tile based PowerVR chip.
That’s wayyy too easy to say when you’re living in a city with a scene. I do get where you’re probably coming from; I might be saying the same thing if I lived in Seattle too.
None of us actually think that sitting alone in front of your computer enduring six frames of lag is better than being in an arcade or even in the same living room as your opponent. I can’t even imagine how lazy or scared you’d have to be for that shit to be your preferred option. I promise you that nobody believes this is an equal replacement!
For some of us though, it’s the best substitute. The nearest scene for me is a six-hour drive away! I’m more than happy to travel to tournaments but it’s not feasible to do that every Saturday night.
Sure I have buddies here who like the game, but these are guys who don’t want me to pick Cable or Sent anymore because I learned to combo kicks into AHVBx2 and I corner-trap with flying stomps and CapCom AA. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve known some of them since kindergarten and I really wouldn’t trade them for any other friends… but it does make my inner nerd long for like-minded players, let alone skilled competition.
Bottom-line: I’d rather play online than not get to play. :lol:
These are old games by now afterall. My entry-level Dell laptop with Integrated graphics can play all the mame stuff and CPS-3 perfectly.
Modern, basic comps probably won’t have a problem with Naomi as long as the emulation is done well.
AFAIK, The BIOS isn’t encrypted.
Game emulation wont happen anytime soon I think.

QFT, these “expectations” are overrated. I run SF3:3s perfectly with only half a gig ram. Granted I have to close everything else first.

Just saying my basic comp plays all the Mame, NeoGeo, and CPS-3 stuff perfect.
What kind of comp do you have? My laptop with 512MBs ran CPS-3 without a sweat(i’ve since upgraded to 1GB but not for gaming sake).

The Atari Vegas is less powerful than the Sega NAOMI, and nobody can run Vegas games at 100%.

Yes, but there’s far more documentation for the PowerVR chip used in the NAOMI than the Voodoo Banshee. I’m not sure if the Banshee specs were fully released/documented. However, given that there’s been a long history of development on the Dreamcast…

Just FYI, for those comparing CPS3 and Naomi, it is really apples and oranges. Every experience I’ve had with anything with polygons in MAME has been horrible. My computer is reasonably beefy.
MAME does not support hardware acceleration. That might be a huge performance hit.
