Namco Stick Appreciation!

No, I dont think it will. The shaft height of the stock stick is shorter than a JLF.

I see. As long as the JLF shaft cover’s diameter is correct I may be able to cut it down to the correct length. Or I may just look elsewhere for a cover. I really don’t want to leave the bare metal exposed. Luckily it isn’t rusty now but with time it might start to develop.

It will fit if you cut it down to size that’s what I did for squared its a mad catz jlf cover

Ok, sounds good. Thanks for the tip.

don’t image quote mods will give you an infraction

thanks lol. by the way did you do anything to the bottom of your namco stick to prevent or remove any rust? I’ve seen some people add felt bottoms their sticks and stuff.

i wonder if CLR does anything…

could always spray a coat of primer.

Well, I’m not sure if the reaction time is that significant but there is less wiggle room compared to the stock namco switches and the button itself doesn’t have to be press down as far.

Are these sticks pretty durable with the stock parts? I’m not sure if I wanna use this as a semi regular stick if it could break easily. I’ve been told that it might be a better idea to just keep it as a collector’s item. Has anyone used one regularly for years with no problems?

They are sturdy, my dad had one for years I recently modded but it was still working fine (he bought it when they first released)

Nice.Guess I’ll get an xtokki adapter and use my namco as my first 360 stick then! Will grab an inpin adapter too.

Hello,
I recently won a Namco stick off eBay for $50 shipped. As it said in the description The stick was still highly responsive. However, I tested it out in SF3 and noticed the joystick itself isn’t responsive as it should be. Since I can’t return it does anybody have any solutions as to how I could fix the joystick. Cleaning it, Replacing it, etc. Thanks.

A new JLF spring and sanwa omron microswitches sounds like a good start.

yea new switches work wonders. great find man. gotta love that used look on the bottom, someones been playing on their lap

Thanks, I guess I should’ve mentioned im not a pro modder, any tutorials on swapping microswitches/jlf springs?, i cant find any.

switches will require soldering so that’ll be fun.

the spring, just pop out the e-clip (watch out, something might pop out and hit you in the eye) from the bottom of the stick, disassemble (remember the order), and reassemble with the new spring, slip the e-clip back in

sorry, cant find a link right now, but its easy to find im sure

So I’ve had one of these for over a year now, but it came without the gray Start/Select buttons. I’ve been using the yellow L1/L2 buttons instead, but I’d really like to be able to use those as well for the purposes of training mode record / replay functions and the like. Any idea where I could obtain them, or of something I could use as a substitute?

Could try lubricating the pivot and the flat part of the top-hat looking piece above the spring. I did this to my Fighting Stick PS (same joystick mechanism as the Namco) and it felt better afterwards.

:update: I was gonna try the e-clip method but I decided to test it on the ps2 instead and after brief playthroughs of sfa anthology ,cvs2 and sf ex3 it seems the stick is precise on the console but not on the pc with ggpo when it comes to pulling off fireballs, shoryus, etc. Very unusual unless it has something to do with the ps2/pc converter im using.

if thats the cause its more likely to be the converter. its not easy finding one that has perfect response.
