Namco Stick Appreciation!

Yea, i mean the top metal pannel. I have destroyed the metal panel paint on 2 namcos. It is pointless you buy a stick and can’t use it much. so I end up repaint and finally put laminated art on it.

picked this guy up on ebay, came in today. never had a chance to use one of these, i played the saturn mostly back then, but with the love it gets here i couldn’t help myself. full retail box and stick are in very good condition still, no rust on the bottom. looking forward to taking it for a test spin.

I love my namco stick, but the X button is starting to go out. Has anyone successfully swapped out the original button? I’m not talking about putting sanwa or semitsu buttons it, i mean swapping it for the same type of button. And, does anyone who has swapped their old buttons out feel like selling them to me? The only reason I like this stick is because of the buttons, so putting in sanwa would be a waste for me.

it will be hard for you to find only 1 button for sale. I have sold a set before. read this whole thread I am sure jdm714 has pointed out which micro switch can serve as a replacement.

FWIW, the original namco buttons are extremely similar to seimitsu buttons in feel, IMHO.

so I barely got my stick in the mail from ibeatu. and the usps left it in the rain. needless to say the careful packaging saved it. brought it inside left it on the counter than this happened lol.

No… Well, at least now you have an excuse to button and art mod it.

nah just need some paint thinner. btw is it just me or the namco buttons feel like sanwa rgs?

The balltop comes loose too often on my unmodified Namco. Does the shaft have a thing on the bottom like with JLF shafts that I can use to make it tighter?

Of course, none of that matters if I can’t open the thing up in the first place. The screws on the bottom just do not want to go aaaaaaaaaaanywhere. :frowning:

You can get a reverse bit for your drill and get them out =] I wouldn’t try an impact screwdriver unless you have the rest of stick secured in a vice grip of some sort to prevent accidental damage.

Got it for $24. LS-33 with a 55 spring. Liner on the bottom done with spray adhesive.

Lucky you! Where’d you buy that great deal?

a coworker of mine got it at a garage sale for $10, he than did not want it and bam!!! got me a namco.

Can someone please post a pic of how they soldered the JLF wires on the namco pcb?..thx

This isn’t a JLF but it’s similar and the wiring is explained. You’ll need to desolder from the original microswitches.

So, I wouldn’t use the 5 pin harness from the JLF?..I’m still quite confused…

The sanwa JLF mod for the namco actually doesn’t look that difficult… but I would be afraid to do it if I was to buy one. How difficult would it be to replace the Hori switches in the Joystick with sanwa switches? Would it be worth the effort? (Does it feel like a JLF?)

Would jlf micro switchs fit in the stock namco’s frame?..if thats the case then this project got a whole lot easier.
