Namco Stick Appreciation!

I bought another one and the face is scratched a little bit. Could I buff it out?

Also, has anyone ‘freshened’ one up? I only would like to replace the spring and switches. What parts ‘drop in’ easily with no modification? I have a ton of custom built sticks and parts but I like to keep namcos stock.

Anybody with a spare Namco stick’s square gate?

Hi guys. I noticed that my Namco stick’s square gate is getting worn. I was wondering if there was anybody with a spare Namco stick square gate they would spare. Please let me know!

Thanks!

On another note, I wonder why Namco won’t release another version of this stick. Petition maybe?

eightballah: i wouldn’t buff it out. i don’t think the paint is as good as auto paint where you can buff out microscratches. you might just strip the paint away. either deal with it or repaint the whole thing. also the spring is easily replaceable if you want but the swap the microswitches, you’ll have to desolder the microswitches but you can use the Sanwa microswitches.

shmoke: with a bit of modification, you can install a Sanwa square gate. I believe they’re of better quality.

roxtc is talking this if not know.

or you can just replace the stock stick in your ex2 with one pulled from a namco =) i turned my least favorite stick into one of my most used by doing it.

i’m not sure you understand what the links were for. the man wanted to replace the gate on his namco stick that’s been a bit worn out. it’s just that the sticks are very similar so it’s for reference only.

also i’m not sure why people feel namco’s stick is so much better than hori’s of late. to me it’s about the same thing, but stiffer. i actually thot it was too stiff and had to replace to spring to get it closer to the feel of a JLF.

Just modded a namco shell i bought a while back with an ls-32-02 and PS-14-KNs.
A stock namco on the left and the modded on the right.

Took a bit of cutting and sanding but it fits in perfectly.

Ive got a Namco Stick and wanna mod it with a Seimitsu Ls32-01

I didnt find a tutorial about it, only for Sanwa Stick

Can someone help me?

It is the same thing as any Arcade Stick from Hori.
If you find LS-32(-01) for Fighting Stick 3/EX2/Wii, it the same.

Do the same as this, but with a Seimitsu.

networkingyuppy installed LS-32-01 into Namco using the above.

I’ll get around to doing a tutorial someday for this.
Basically i removed the mounting plate and shaved down the pastic until it fit inside without touching the bottom

Next i cut the screws in half so they would not push the microswitches off

Then i placed the joystick on the case and drilled holes where the screwholes were on the stick. Scewed the stick to the case on top and then screwed the metal panel back on.
I bought the shell off of ebay and it had mounting holes for a jlf, so ignore the extra holes in the picture.

I see you shaved the Base like how erwin did to install Seimtisu LS-32-01 into HRAP 3.

You are second person I know to modify the Base like that.

And i thought i was doing something new :frowning:
It would have been handy to see that article first. I didn’t realise the screws needed to be trimmed to mount. I had just put everything back together when i realised the screws had pushed the microswitches off of the board and had raised the height by a few mm, which in turn caused the bottom of the stick to touch the bottom plate.

Overall the stick is pretty nice, i’m preferring it to my TE now. I had a jlf in it but the shaft was too long. The ls-32-01 is normally too short, so it balanced out perfectly in the Namco

I just recently bought a namco stick on ebay for $50.00 Au (approx $A35.00) simply based on the recommendations of ppl online. I never owned one back in the day and its the first stick I’ve owned since my NES Advantage back in '93. I fell in love straight away. I couldn’t help myself though and have modded it (Sanwa JLF and buttons) and added custom artwork to the Faceplate. I’m new to Shoryuken and can’t post pics yet. How do I earn the right to do so? Anyone?

I am interested in getting at least 2 more namcos though. One I will keep Stock and the other I will mod even further (now that I’ve done one I feel pretty confident tacking something a little more complicated).

I just can’t bring myself to mod this thing, so I am going to try to cannibalize fresh parts from other hori sticks (i’ve got the usuals all lying around, t6, ex2, etc) and see if I can get it tight as new yet still be able to live with myself for modding a perfect stick.

And the one I got from Meus is still perfect, this is another one that I picked up.

It’s feels better imo. The original namco sticks used Omron microswitches for the stick, the same thing sanwa sticks use and that’s why they last forever. The microswitches are just that damn good. After that hori made their own microswitches for their sticks. (i read somewhere the tekken 4 stick also used omron microswitches, can anyone confirm this?) They work alright, but not as well as omron.

Hori Fighting Sticks right now still use OMRON Microswitch.
The exact same one in Namco actually; OMRON V-15-3A5.

You will sometimes find Matushita in Hori Fighting Sticks too.
Matsushita AM51630A53N.

Matsushita is what Seimitsu use in their Joysticks.

In one of my Fighting Stick EX2, the Joystick had three OMRON V-15-3A5 and one Matsushita AM51630A53N.
That just means it does not matter.
Laugh.

I’m starting to cut back and trim my stick collection. I’m debating on selling my Namco stick now /sadface.

Stock joystick, Sanwa Yellow Meshball and buttons.

I know if I do I’ll regret it (I sold one and then bought another already).

Don’t do it.

How much? (I’m dying to have one)

$110 shipped to the continental US.
