speaking of FD, i’ve been faultless defending my sleep… and taking guard damage like a mofo. i hate my life
FDC is more or less impossible and/or impractical here in xx… back in ggx, it was the most brokenest thing evar award of the year dot com.
back in ggx, you could do moves that chain into sweep… then FD before the sweep came out (much like kara/RC… it was more or less RC-blocking)
but since it was an FD… it stopped whatever you were doing COLD. in other words:
figure 1. ggx Sol: d.H (they block)>sweep>back+PK… and what happens is Sol does his slash, then he goes into FD pose, you let go of FD, and he’s free to do whatever the fugg you want whilst they’re still in blockstun. it was mad stupid.
figure 2. ggx Dizzy: d.H, slight pause>sweep>back+PK>d.H, slight pause>sweep>back+PK>d.H>icicle, dash in, otg with d.K>d.H>icicle == over 50% on potemkin.
see the problem? instant recovery. this also led to infinites… but you hadda do them in an odd way:
figure 3. ggx Jam (facing right): dash in, s.S>d.H>hold PK, jiggle stick 646, release PK>s.S>d.H>hold PK, jiggle 646, release>s.S>d.H>repeat
this is due to the whole quasi-charge partitioning of the dash… when you held PK, anytime you hit back == FD block anywyere (since FD blocking took priority over the range-based blocking)… so hold PK, 6 (“charge”), 4 (FD, cancels your attack’s delay), 6 (dash).
repeat. so…
figure 4. ggx Chipp: dash d.H>FD dash>d.H>FD dash>d.H>FD dash>repeat for about 97 timer ticks == 100% combo.
moral of the story? i dunno. but it was mad lame
of course, Millia’s ring trap and Johnny’s mist trap and Zato’s eddy lock+unblockables were MUUUUUUUCH faster to kill with and it took a mere scratch to set them up. then again, the FD dash infinites were very versatile, too… just lame
ok. so fast forward to GGXX… they took out the ease for moves to be FD cancelled… so it was like… you have 2-3 frames to FD cancel a move, and it was right at the startup… meaning thigs can’t really hit with it… and i dun remember if d.D can be fudged that way…
so the bottom line is…
figure 5a. GGXX Johnny: f.K (sliding upper kick)>FD, and Johnny slides forwards REALLY fast (like the kick) only he’s walking as the kick used to come out… usage: get closer… w00000t. so now Johnny has a “real” dash.
figure 5b. GGXX Johnny: hold PK>64646464646464646… good ol’ nostalgia. what happens now is that Johnny FD’s his DASHES, stopping them mid-dash (getting about 75% of the way through the dash or so), then FD-dash cancelling into another dash… usage: wave dashing. sexy sexy broken marvel2 movement for Johnny (who doesn’t have a dashy-dash)
figure 5c. GGXX Johnny: d.H>FD cancel… d.H is his sexy slash where he does a huge, parallel-to-ground sweep with his sword whilst moving back a tad. usage: very quick “back-dash” w000t.
so far, the FDC in ggxx are kinda used in movement… most people don’t have much of a decent FDC usage… i mean it might be possible to do combo>some hit>FDC some hit to stop the combo safely… but the window is SOOOOOO TINY now and there are some delays or something funky-ass (otherwise the Japanese would already be FD-dash cancelling years ago)…
figure 6. GGXX I-no: j.D>FDC>j.D>FDC>repeat… usage: if you’re good, you fly like stupid gambit snapback crappy thing
figure 7a. GGXX Bridget: set yoyo, qcb+K>FDC… usage: Bridget flies up MAD high from the rolling move. instead of going towards the yoyo, he launches straight up at mach5. useful for continuing combos when a yoyo is out anywhere on screen…
figure 7b. GGXX Bridget: set yoyo, dash in, s.S©>jump install>s.S(f)>d.D>qcf+K, K-extend RC>j.S>j.d.S>yoyo roll FDC>j.S>j.d.S>dj.s>dj.d.S>yoyo roll FDC>j.S> then either pull back yoyo, call out bladed roger… etc

Seriously though, if MN comes and plays Marvel we need to get a MN vs Wi in Marvel.
As far as MWC goes, I’m guessing MN will be a pass unfortunately. I could be convinced to go, however, I’d only want to go if there were a good number of other MN players going. I would think though, that most of the other MN crew would be otherwise occupied.
Maobei is always busy with school, so I doubt he’d be up for it. bMike has his baby and I would venture that he wouldn’t want to be away for a weekend. Rob I’d guess is also busy with school, but possibly up for going??? Frank, dunno? Haven’t heard from Wes or Jesse since EVO…
If any MN people are wanting to go, hit me up on AIM to discuss. It’s coming up pretty soon (next weekend, Oct 30-31), so getting all the plans together in time is questionable even if people did want to go.

Baiken is too sexy good in XX, it’s a damned ugly shame they raped her hardcore for #r. i mean… everybody and their mothers gained a 60%+ loop and Sol’s just gets harder to do, but no damage decrementation… whereas Baiken’s lost damage, and it lost a quite a few practical startups. and all the decent practical startups now require FRC and it does MAD reduction. and she STILL takes above-average damage. sigh. why hate the sexy one-arm… why dammit why!

Wes is named as one of the “featured players”, and there’s a nice clip of Mike Z getting 100% on two characters in a row on MVC2. Then when the second character dies, if you watch for it, a little bubble appears above the killed person that says “WTF?”
At least I’m pretty sure that’s Mike, I haven’t asked him as he’s away, but it involves Jugger, Doom, and Tron.
Oh, and for you tekken people, multiple occurances of Jin getting owned.
