fixed. Japan are big Tekken fans, but I’d make Virtua Fighter Japan’s big 3d fighter before Tekken.
on that note, I went yesterday after finding out Thursday. Only me and some Asuka player. Beat him, got my stuff, left. There was no hype whatsoever for this tournament. Hell, I just found out thursday cause I read it on another forum. At least SRK helped in putting up the SF4 tournament. Plus it doesn’t help this was advertised weeks ahead of SF4’s release date.
Phailstop really is not the best place for a tourney. 1 thing they need to fix is that controller nonsense. This is the “cater to the casuals” move along with trying to keep players from trying to “cheat” (however he hell that is). Just look at SF4 and the fact it was on the 360. If the higher ups really payed attention to the system’s bad Dpad and not just businessmen, it would be ps3. But i’m sure they wouldn’t make a difference. Plus This stupid “no unlockable characters” stuff makes me laugh so hard. Good thing this was T6 and not any past Tekken game.
Fighters ARE making a big scene this year. But places like Gamestop only hurt in trying to further push the fighters upon release with silly unorganized tournaments like this.
I participated in my local GS tourney and got 1st. I got my TapOut shirt and some certificate that says “You are the King of Iron Fist Tournament.” (They could have at least did some sort of grammar check before printing that crap out.)
The turnout was small. Had some decent players, but a few of them played better on sticks. Since it was a pad tourney, they didn’t do as well as they should have. It made me angry. I asked them about providing sticks and they said “Real Tekken players play on the pad.” I don’t know if that douchebag was trying to joke or not, but it made me mad to hear that. They wouldn’t even let us touch the game before the tourney. Said some bullshit about players having an unfair advantage, when some of the people that were in the tourney didn’t even have the game at home (This includes me and a few others). It was a horrible tourney. I respect the people who played in the tourney and made it as entertaining as possible, but this will probably be the last tournament I’ll ever go to by GameStop. They dropped the ball hard and ran something that could have been fun into the ground.
After this experience I’ll try and go to most of the ones that I can if that means I can get free stuff. I just won’t worry myself over practicing for it.
I think Tekken has been #1 in the Arcadia Rankings for a long time now. Either way, Tekken does a lot better than SF in Japan, regardless of whether its number 1 or not.
wow that guy was on some bullshit. I got to my gamestop at least pretty close to about an hour before the tournament and put the disc in the PS3 so people could get some casuals in before the tournament started. I even waited 20 minutes to get as many people as possible to show up.
I’ve heard that dumbass ‘unfair advantage’ bullshit before and around when we were doing the smash tournament for brawl and people were already playing that shit on burned copies of the game.
My advice is if GS does decide to partner with Evo and SRK again for the whole tourney thing again that they have a bit more influence into how the rules go if at all possible.
Any words on any other T6 tournaments, because I get tired of just playing AI all the time. To play fighting ggames is to play against real people. If I can find some way to play some people offline then I might think about getting this game again.
Although the actual gameplay is amazing, it seems Namco hardly gave a horse’s ass when building the features up.
Things they did right:
Immense customization, the most solid gameplay mechanics ive seen(balance, consistancy, ect.), replay system.
Things they fucked up:
You can only have one side customied at a time (PS3 version, unsure of 360), scenario campaign is full of bullshit*, a boss that breaks and ignores the rules of the game*, they downscaled the resolution of the console version (Namco promised that the arcade AND console version would match, they lied to our face), their “New Netcode” (Which they said would be “better than SC4”) is shit* (another lie), replay features are highly limited (cant even pause it!!!), and a few other things.
Keep in mind things marked with a * actually had a negative effect on mainstream review scores.
Thats were most people go to figure out what games they want to buy Namco.
I know this is a bit nitpicky. Before you bash on me as a hater Tekken is my favorite franchise of all time.
I just feel if Namco does not fix at least half the problems Tekken has with at least a patch of some sort (I feel fixing online is a must),
the Tekken scene in America will drown because Namco left their baby Tekken in the tub and forgot to turn off the water.
That being said, our Tekken at Gamestop was ok.
Our biggest issue was we had to play on Xbox because the manager didn’t have the key to the PS3.
I went to my local GS to enter the Tekken 6 tourney and won as well because no one else showed up. I actually put more time into memorizing combos for a game I’ve never even played (still haven’t touched T6) than I did waiting at the GS to be declared the winner. I honestly thought there would have been at least a couple of people there.
I went to the tournament at the Bristol, VA mall Gamestop. It was a lot of fun, but only because it was run by my friend, I Eat Bamboo, who’s a tournament Tekken player. And yeah, if you didn’t get your TapouT shirt, it is because your gamestop sucked. I also received two t-shirts, one being Armor King’s TapouT shirt and the other being a plain black shirt with the T6 logo, but we gave the plain T6 shirt to second place, also one of my friends who sometimes posts on SRK, Rockstaryan0. I also got the certificate and the Lars “card.” I wish more people had experiences like mine. But, my experience is what it was because Bristol has a solid Tekken scene and one of our own happened to be an employee and they let him run the tournament and use a meeting room in the mall to set up TVs and use whatever sticks/pads we wanted.
I remember my local Gamestop trying to do a “Last Man Standing” SC2 tourney. The winner was decided by whoever had the longest win streak that weekend. Like I’m going to hang out in a GameStop for that long
