Hey all I just wanted to tell you that I’ve been anticipating this gamestop T6 tournament for a while. I’ve been online and calling stores a lot trying to get info. I have to say that a lot of these Gamestop employees are clueless, I called one yesterday and he didn’t even know there was supposed to be one and most of those said they had no idea or whatever. One thankfully was on point. The tournament was today and I was kind of running late because I was trying to get a little more practice in before I left and I ended up playing for too long. I called them and told the Gamestop I was going to be late and they said it wasn’t going to be a problem.
They were right because when I went in there I was the only one there for it. They told me that they’ll wait a few minutes and if nobody shows up then I win by default. That’s what happened too. I was very dissapointed. I was training a lot for this too and yet nobody showe dup and I went to the most crowded Gamestop too.
All I got for a prize were two T-shirts, a metal card and a certificate saying that I am the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 6.
One of the guys who worked there said that “they usually turn out this way and on the next round you’ll probably get to play against somebody.”
I hope so because I want to earn my prize by kicking a group of people’s asses.
I had the same problem, only I didn’t even get hooked up with a shirt or anything.
Gamestop doesn’t advertise these tourneys very well, probably because they don’t want to put aside extra hours for an extra employee to run the tourney while the other guy keeps an eye on the rest of the store.
Considering how highly casual players on other sites speak of Tekken, I was still expecting a higher turnout. So much for getting kids out of the basement.
Damn that’s sad. Did you get to play at all? I would’ve at least made you play the CPU on very hard and if you lost I would’ve displayed the winnings on the console. Good shit on placing, I would’ve lost by default.
You didn’t get your prize? Wow. Did you tell them specifically on their site they said that in the event if your opponent’s don’t show up their suppose to give you the prize?
Edit: To above no I didn’t get to play there at all. One of the employees could have least offered to play a game with me lol. BTW who’s the chick in your avatar?
Wow… I didn’t even know about a Gamestop tourney. They obviously didn’t advertise it well. You’d think they’d at least mention it when I went in the store and bought it.
They did a horrible job advertising this. I found out about it only from Iplaywinner and SDtekken. My boyfriend and I went to a GameStop advertised to be holding the tournament (since it was close to my house I figured I might as well participate even though I figured there’d be a small turnout). The two employees there were clueless and said it was at a bigger GameStop. I called my friend who was general manager of the GameStop they mentioned and he said they canceled it due to lack of contestants. GameStop is lame once again.
I didn’t force the issue. Even if I did read that part of the fine print, I’d just let it be. I came to actually play people, not demand free shit just for showing up. Besides, that other guy probably wanted the shirt more than I did.
Next Gamestop tourney, I’ll make it a point to actually call ahead.
None of these lames were giving a free copy of the game to the winner, or some freaking store credit?? I can’t remember what store but there was a tourney for 500 store credit or a free copy of the game.
I went today with one of the better NY Tekken players. Shit turnout, shit tourney, shit prizes. I’ve been to two shit Tekken events already. Trying to not aim for a third.
I don’t see how you could be dissapointed. YOU WON!
I’m sure people were mad scared to enter a Tekken tourney when a lot of them (especially 360 players) haven’t touched Tekken like in a long time or ever. Tekken being a Sony exclusive series for a long time probably scared a lot of people from coming out. Plus there were like 3 other big name titles coming out the same day as Tekken so that probably killed a lot of the potential hype that could have been gathered for a T6 tourney. People are busy spinning a Fisher Price version of a DJ mixer.
Went and in my match before the finals the controller kept cuttin in and out like it was losin signal or some shit and we stopped and I was like yo this thing keeps cuttin in and out and was hittin the buttons in front of the kid I was playin and they weren’t responding at all
gamestop employee didn’t do shit about it
then after the match mashed on some buttons and was like it works fine
one of the other people who played on it who was final four said the same shit to
kid I played was like nah it stopped workin and offered to replay me
gamestop employee just looked at him and wrote his name into the finals I was like WTF are u serious and left
This is what happens when you go to set up pad scrub tourneys. Can’t even use your own shit and get swindled. Didn’t go to the SFIV GameStop tourney and was plenty glad for it. Seems like the same with this shit. If I can’t use my shit I want to be as FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE.
