I really hope spidey is an exception to the no blocking while airdash thing because with all his other nerfs like scaling web throw and loss of neutral recovery out of web ball, spider-man looks like he is gonna be worse overall even though he is getting some buffs too.

damn I’ll have to take a look at that article. It sucks if it’s true but it won’t be a total loss. Web zip is faster now and if it kept it’s properties of attaching to an attack, whether it be a physical one or projectile, we could still block after which unless the negative frames of web zip are now that horrid that we can’t even do that. If so seems like we will have to go alpha style with him and have to use web swing to get around

Hmm… we should be able to block during web zip still since that isn’t technically an airdash. And, yeah, I’m hardcore picking up Nova, whether he’s on the same team as Spidey or not.

Had to go back and look at old mvc2 vids of mine. The change to air dashes isn’t that bad. Mvc3 was actually the first game to allow blocking during air dash so if they are removing it then you will still be able to block afterwards. Lets also keep in mind that it’s still cancelable so you can still make yourself safe. Plus spidey has a lot of tools for approach that are a lot safer than recklessly swinging in all the time. He still has his dashing jump that can cover half the screen plus the option to cancel into web swing and web zip. Lastly his approach will now be very similar to morrigans with the faster recovery of web ball. I know a lot of people are going to want to zip cancel web balls but that will only want to be something you do in certain situations. Dashing behind web balls like morrigan dashed behind her fireballs will be better especially since spidey is faster and will have more tools at his disposal because you still have your zip cancel option in stock as opposed to using it right away to take to the air

I wonder what Spidey would be like if he could finish air combos off with an air web throw. The animation could be similar to UWT except make it one flip, still give it the different angles per strength but allow for ground to do relaunch combos with him. This would allow for web zip OTG’s still afterwards, oh well one can only wonder what the game would be like with that.

I guess Capcom want us to cover our approach with web ball and cancel into grounded web zip (and rely on assists even more)? Is it so much to ask that web swinging air dash be useful? HE’S SPIDER-MAN! I WANT TO FUCKING WEB SLING.

I actually think that’s my favorite move from Spidey.

Depending on the changes to Iron man I may pick him back up and find me a decent third for anti air or otg capabilities

First - Spencer jacks all of spider-man’s potential useful new moves. Either that or capcom’s awesome planning had Spidey brought in with sparse MvC2-ish moveset
Second - Spidey’s overlooked for wall cling (WALLCRAWLER, HELLO) in favor of characters like felicia and friggin red arremer (I can definitely use wall cling for things like avoiding beam supers in low health situations or baiting out whiff->MS punish)
Third - Damage and hit stun nerf
Now - Web Sling becomes near useless??

When will it stop, capcom? I keep forgetting that this is the same capcom that thinks having broken characters that kills rosters makes a fun game. Why would they care about the wall crawler outside of marketing?

I’m dead serious with this, if the only character I play the game for becomes bottom tier (for no good reason), I will drop Marvel for good. I already pretty much dropped Vanilla Marvel 3 in August/September, and my friends have done the same way back in spring. Forget making another team - I find it pointless playing a game when I can’t use who I like

By web sling, are you talking about his air dash? If you are, that’s not a nerf. Was it useful yes but seriously after going back and playing MvC2 again that’s how it’s always been. This eliminates random j:h: option selects and makes all Spidey players think about when to use it. Like Airborne was saying, too many Spidey players, myself included, had been abusing the shit out of his air dash then turn around and complain about how we couldnt open up opponents. We still have instant overhead :l: and :m: plus a faster web zip. With the proper assist now you can combo off an instant overhead into web zip jumping move of choice into combo of choice. We still have IOH web swings that people rarely abuse plus you can use these for movement depending on character match up and variables if you are really hard pressed to swing. Lets also not forget his dashing jump that covers half the screen and still allows him to block and the soon to come ‘Zip Cancels’

Damage nerfs were bound to happen. You have a character that can hit for over a mill using one meter by himself where other higher tier characters and even heavy hitting characters have to use assist, multiple meters, and pop X-Factor to touch the same damage. In exchange now you can combo off of web throw outside of the corner due to it not throwing fullscreen. Sounds like a fair trade, now depending on the options that will be present because of said change you can set up for midscreen resets with proper assist, continue combo, maybe even get raw tag shenanigans. It’s something you have to explore. The hit stun nerf honestly needed only to affect characters like Dante, Mags, Tron, and other characters with hella long combo strings. Different from Spidey since his long ass combos that people fascinate themselves with involve one move that’s hella broken and hella boring and leaves not room for variation between Spidey players.

The wall crawl isnt that big of a deal. It’s surprising Firebrand received it but it doesn’t look that great to be honest. Strider’s looks great but also he’s had it in prior games. We have wall jump, another move rarely used, yet it is useful. We also have a lot more moves to maneuver with. Having wall crawl to avoid supers in low life situations sounds good and all but then what’s the point of wall jump, air dash, web zip, and web swing? Again it’s one of those things you have to consider beforehand just like air dashing without block DURING the animation. Most the situations that will kill you when low on health are already avoidable with said tool set. The moves wall crawl won’t prevent are full screen moves like Magnetic Shockwave, Hailstorm, Ryu’s powered up Ricochet Shinkuu, Stalking Flare, Mighty Thunder, etc. The list of moves that would hit is a lot shorter than the moves that would and are avoidable.

As for Spidey vs Spencer’s moveset it’s whatever. You don’t want to have too many moves that are similar, though Mags and Storm got the same move with slightly different properties. Though I could see Spidey bouncing off an opponent again and maybe using his air dash to move back in to follow up I wouldn’t necessarily want to see that change over completely getting a new move with a more useful application.

It’s a new game across the board. Meaning it’s not as bad as it looks and now people who want to be serious with Spidey can really dive into the system and learn their character and his options as opposed to crutching on assist setups and combos needing assist for max damage. Combos I know that will work but at a lot weaker damage is the one mill combo I posted up and some of his web zip combos. Something else to think about is the options some of his moves bring to a team. He may be able to follow up an air throw by himself now. If you can ground bounce the opponent early in the combo you should be able to tag out and still get regular scaled damage for the new character as opposed to throw scaled damage. I could be misunderstanding the rule though.

yea… I’m dedicated to Spidey. I’m just going to adjust and go with it… I think my team is staying the same in UMvC3. sweet

Sup, I was wondering if it’s possible to have a viable team with both Phoenix Wright and Spider-Man. At first glance it doesn’t seem like it.

Went into the lab to test the air dash against his mvc2 version. It’s a lot SHORTER than his old incarnation. If it acts the same way with the blocking as soon as Spidey lets go of his web which is right when hes arching upwards he can block so for those saying he has a long dash he really doesnt the forward momentum just makes it seem that way.

but realistically, spiderman shouldn’t be able to do hi/low mixups without corner or a lock down assist, and we had limited left/right because of airdash.

i fear that on reaction to seeing spidey airdash you can magnetic shockwave, hyper charging star, etc and you lose 1/3 health.
