Yeah, any craft store should sell sculpey. Guys, I’m lookin at Guile and the more I do I think I need to redo my Akuma face totally. Input?
Well can we get a pic update on Akuma to give better critiques?
that is actually the last I messed with him. After guile, and improving a bit, I don’t think Akuma looks too good. Gotta fix the nose etc…
Not much of a sculptor here… but looking at the silhouette of your akuma… I think the way you have the beads so tight around the neck (particularly in the front) makes him look like he has no neck…
maybe if u lowered several of the beads in the front that might show more of a chin in the profile as well as some negative space in the silhouette. Also… the nose ridge (not sure if i’m getting the name right)… could use more definition to define a expression.
looking good otherwise.
Thanks for the input man. Really didn’t take the silhouette into consideration which is a no no. I’ll loosen up the beads some and see if it helps. The nose issue you have is the same thing that was bothering me. I’m gonna redo that area for sure.
You want the brutal critiquing?
lol BRUTAL! yeah sure. it’s no prob now since his face is gone. I rid myself of the wretched thing about 30 min ago.
Ha good job since its face wasnt up to par with the other stuff you’ve shown. I still critique the pic so you can make a adjustments for the new face. There are still tons of Akuma fans so people will be more critical but youll also have a bigger admiring audience.
Based off the profile:
-
The bridge of the nose. Even though Gouki has huge meatbrows and wide nose, there should be a small indent transitioning from the eyebrows to the nose.
-
Can’t tell if its stretched or not, but Gouki has a much more square jaw compared to other SF characters. His face is usually very wide.
-
The hair placement / needs bigger forehead. The hair usually starts a bit more back, closer to the crown rather than next to the eye brows.
-
Hair thickness. The hair itself as a whole (i.e. if it were a sculpy wig) is too small. I’ve seen a drawing of Gouki on deviantart which was great but the hair made him look mad guido so you are far from that territory. Just make the size percentage bigger.
-
Facial features. Ive already seen how good you REALLY are in terms of sharpness and features, Gouki didnt seem to get the same treatment as the others so I know youll do a good job on that. You didnt really do many features for the eyes themselves. You did some great eyes on Oro’s and he’s not exactly the type of guy anyone would say “nice eyes” to.
The gi and shoulder placement are really good Im suprised you could do that.
thanks sir!! I’ll get on him soon. Will have some Guile pics in a few. I appreciate the feedback.
Guile update. sorry for the bad pic. I still can’t get good ones. Flash kills the detail and without it it’s too damn dark. Had to adjust this one in photoshop. I’ll have some front view shots up as soon as I get a good pic taking method down. At least you can see the nose adjustments here.
The hair needs alil work but you say you finish the hair later in the process. As for the face…
Eff you…just eff you haha
lol, dude go buy some sculpey and get into it!!! Believe me, my first ones were ass. As I’m sure you are well aware it’s all about learning your medium of choice. I am nowhere near the skill level I want to be, but I’m gonna keep goin!! BTW, from now on if I ask for crits, fuckin nail my shit. I throw it up here to get feedback. My lack of a social life = SRK heads crittin my art. I rarely have any “real” social contact. RECLUSE ftw.
BTW, since you seem to know a good bit about the SF art peeps tell me who is behind the stuff I’m usin for reference.

I am pretty sure most of the stuff I’ve used is by the same guy. They all have the same chin and mouth. any idea who it is? Bengus perhaps?
prolly bengus or akiman.
after seeing this pic, i was pretty inspired. guy said he used super sculpy. gotta find this cool substance. how does it come out so smooth but sharp with details?

That’s some awesome stuff.
probably brushed with alcohol prior to baking. wet sanding after bake helps smoothness also.
WOW…
dammit!!! if you guys ever get into this try to use your clay before it hardens. I had to use some sculpey softener solution on mine and now my hands are all broken out. ugh!!!
The sculpture of the Monk is really excellent. It’s very accurate and i’d say it was better than the reference pic.
Yea htf did they do that. They should get that guy working for Capcom. That monk reminds me of Ekei (bonus pts if you know what Capcom game he’s from.)
Also sean tree you should log into aim sometime. I dont know what you mean…your hands are cracked now?
like hives all over my hands. lol little red spots that itch like mad! pisses me off cause I wanna finish my stuff up but they hurt too damn bad atm. As for the monk, if you look at that site you can see that guys progression. His first works were so so, then the later ones get pretty damn good.
