My Custom Vewlix Quest

How easy/hard is it to rotate the monitor when its set in horizontal mode? Are you going to have to remove parts when its time to rotate?

  • I’m actually thinking about swapping out the buttons for a green now to match the marquee. Hopefully, it will be very easy.
  • It’s very simple. I simply have to lift the frame that I am making off the TV, then I have take off the back of the control panel so that the screen can extend out. The actual rotating is really simple since the mount is made for rotating. It shouldn’t take more than 1 minute.

Wow, really nice cab you have here. Although it’s based on Donovan’s design, it feels very different and more polished. What does the final product look like? I’m assuming it’s finished, or course, if so then post some pics, chief!

Sadly, it’s still not finished. It’s actually getting to be shameful. There’s probably less than 3 hours total work that needs to be done, but I haven’t had a chance to work with my friend and he’s been swamped with commercial orders. I saw him at a picnic last weekend and we’re going to try and wrap everything up. I’ll definitely take pictures then.

I’ll be the first to say… it’s about time. My friend finished building and painting my custom Vewlix cabinet. I still have to put everything together as soon as I have a moment. I think I may put another thin layer of polyurethane on some of the parts that aren’t as “shiny” and clean up some shop dust that is still there.

I’ll try to post up completed pictures with the TV in portrait and landscape orientation very soon, but I’m multi-tasking too many things this week. I just got a new puppy (chihuahua/poodle mix) on Sunday and am in the process of house training her. The other problem is that I’m waiting for my hunting shotgun to come in since I’m going duck hunting next month.

Any update on this by chance?

Fortunately, my quest still isn’t dead yet. I started duck hunting this year and it’s become my new obsession. I’m most likely going to finish everything involving my Vewlix project soon since duck season is almost over.

I added the vinyl Vewlix sticker and applied a coating of polycrylic.

I also started painting the benches with the same color scheme as the cabinet. Since I have a few vinyl Vewlix logo stickers left, I’m thinking of putting the logos on top of the benches.

Nice, where did you get your marquee printed at?

I had a local print shop/sign shop print it on vinyl. The minimum print quantity was one 8x14 sheet ($30), so they simply printed 4 logos for me. I used one for the sign and will use 2 more for the benches. That leaves one in case I mess up.
