Exploring Hugo’s different anti-air options and also comparing their damage/stun to figure out which are the best AAs with and without meter:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMOwW74-0t0
My most interesting finds: Using f.hp or cr.hk for trading purposes and using EX Lariat’s armor to float jump ins (works on empty jumps and airborne moves as well).
-After you trade with f.hp, you can follow up with a LK Backbreaker or s.mp/cr.mk or jab reset into M/H Clap. You can also OS Super but this one doesn’t make much sense to me. Because if you have meter for Super, you already have access to better and more reliable AA options.
-cr.hk will never beat anything but it’s really easy to trade with. It’s a hard KD and sends them really far away. And since you traded and are quickly back on your feet you can whiff an MK Backbreaker to get right next to them. So it’s a trade in hugo’s favor, meter builds and corner carries.
-EX Lariat can potentially be Hugo’s secret weapon and most deadly anti-air option. Not only does it lead to more damage than EX Backbreaker, but you can combo ultra 2 after or reset into pressure or mixups. Jibbo also recently posted a vid about it. I’m still unsure how reliable this AA is in practice and if it’s universal or not. But it’s worth exploring.
The combo potential after EX Lariat is greater if you hit them early. Hit them too late and they won’t float or will block. EX Lariat RFC allows you to react late and still get the same float as if you reacted early. This uses 4 meters but, considering what you can get off of it, it’s a serious legitimate AA option to consider to seal a match.
Meterless
-s.hp (120 damage, 200 stun)
^When done late you can hit them standing and it will leave them at perfect EX Ultra Throw range
-f.hp trade, LK Backbreaker (290 damage, 300 stun)
-f.hp trade, cr.lp (reset) xx MP whiff Ultra Throw/HP Clap OS (180+ damage, 250+ stun)
^Distance relative (best at max jump range). f.hp will rarely win but can trade if spaced well.
-cr.hp (163 damage, 250 stun)
^Somewhat reliable but need to react early. This gives you a hard KD and allows you to dash 2-3 times.
-cr.hk trade, MK Backbreaker whiff (130 damage, 100 stun)
^Surprisingly reliable for trading. Gives hard KD, free meterbuilding from MK BB and corner carries.
1 bar
-EX Backbreaker (180 damage, 150 stun)
^Most reliable and useful AA. But not the most damaging one.
-EX Lariat, LK Backbreaker (290 damage, 250 stun)
^For LK Backbreaker to connect, EX Lariat has to hit early (to float them higher). If you react late and have a low float you’ll need to use EX Backbreaker, cr.lp/cr.mp or Ultra 2 to combo.
-EX Lariat, Ultra 2 (475 damage, 150 stun)
-EX Lariat, cr.mp (240 damage, 250 stun)
-EX Lariat, s.mp (250 damage, 250 stun)
-EX Lariat, cr.mk (210 damage, 250 stun)
-EX Lariat, cr.lp (reset) xx MP Clap whiff UT/HP Clap OS (180+Combo or 28 chip, 200 stun)
^cr.lp and cr.mp are the easiest to connect. But cr.mk gives hard KD.
2 bars
-MP Clap under, Ultra Throw, EX Clap, EX Clap, Ultra 2 (573 damage, 510 stun)
^Need to react very early or do it in anticipation vs some characters. Characters with floaty jumps are easier to low profile like this.
3 bars
-EX Lariat FADC (hit), LK Backbreaker (328 damage, 300 stun)
-EX Lariat FADC (hit), Ultra 2 (461 damage, 230 stun)
-EX Lariat FADC (hit), LP Clap, Ultra 2 (474 damage, 300 stun)
^For LP Clap to connect, EX Lariat has to hit early (to float them higher).
-EX Lariat FADC (hit), ddMK (reset) Ultra Throw, LP Clap, Ultra 2 (237+452 damage, 550 stun)
^For ddMK to connect, EX Lariat has to hit early (to float them higher).
-EX Lariat FADC, cr.lp (reset) xx MP Clap Whiff UT / HP Clap OS (180 damage, 200 stun)
^MP Clap whiff is unsafe vs 3f reversals.

-f.hp trade, Super (430 damage, 200 stun)
-EX Lariat RFC (hit), MK Backbreaker (364 damage, 300 stun)
-EX Lariat RFC (hit), LP Clap, Ultra 2 (510 damage, 300 stun)
-EX Lariat RFC (hit), ddMK (reset), Ultra Throw, LP Clap, Ultra 2 (273+452 damage, 550 stun)
Punish options:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSANFjer4EQ
start to 2:07 - After you block a HP DP, you can start your punish with HP Clap (reversal or non-reversal works), Ultra Throw, MP Clap float or EX Lariat.
2:08 to end - After you block a LP DP, you can start your punish with LP Clap, MP Clap (needs to be reversal timing) or Ultra Throw.
One of my favorite punishes so far is MP Clap xx RFC LK Meat Squasher, s.mp. Good damage and puts them in the corner. edit: didn’t include 4 meter punishes in the video.

Waiting to whiff punish will get your meat squashed nigga, part 2. Also good usage of Kara Ultra Throw. Watch how much health Gief loses in the corner
Made a vid showcasing OS setups on Rolento. Beats regular/Ex Stinger and if the opponent Ex Delta Escapes you can Lk/Ex Backbreaker on reaction. Loses to delayed wakeup (you can probably just react to the technical message and adjust accordingly though) and U1 (haven’t tested U2). http://youtu.be/rwKgMfYe4pA

nice OS use in game 2, i also like that neutral jump then jump forward HK after meat squasher. That was a solid round of good hugo play. And crazy usage of meat squasher. Guess that move isn’t as bad as some would say?
Well Hugo’s fastest normal is 5f, so Meat Squasher’s 8f startup would probably make it really hard to stuff unless you’re looking for it, and the threat of Hugos long ranged poke against Hugos giant hurtbox can instill a big fear of neutral jumping at that range.
So still not a crazy godlike move, but it seems Meat Squasher is a pretty useful tool in Hugo mirrors, at least.
You guys have to post so much gawdlike info for this guy :b I can’t keep up! ahah
amazing thread
