Don’t know if anyone’s considered how good Time Stone is for zoners. IMO it’s the best for them because you can easily escape an approaching opponent and continue your ranged game if you surge at the right time, and the storm allows higher damage combos for those who can’t do much. Zoning combined with surge against an opponent after you’ve killed their first character is really tough to deal with (depending on the character, that is).
High level mvci doesn’t really involve long periods of zoning unfortunately. The kind of zoning you want, is one that will put your opponent where you want, for you to tag into your offense. Time stone is only really the best stone for a limited number of characters. I definitely think time stone is by far the best stone for bums team.
You have to zone in this game because it’s the best way to safely set up rushdown. Willy nilly rush down into tag is good, but zoning that safely locks down into rush is better and safer.
With Gamora I do like the ability to cancel her air f lk gun normal into time surge. Can zone and convert to rush down and if they get too close can just cancel it into a port away from the opponent.
The time storm is good for characters like Strange since you can just spam bolts and if any of them hit you can chain a shit ton of bolts together teleport then level 3. Bolts have almost no recovery once you’re in the storm.
If you have 2 characters that spam the screen with shit the storm can get really oppressive as your gain shorter recovery on tags. You can spam shit with hawkeye, shoot gimlet, tag to strange, put out agomotto, set up glyphs, then immediately tag back into hawkeye and spam to the point where it’s like you’re using both characters almost at the same time
Since the patch is coming out on Tuesday and season 1 is coming to a close. I guess it’s time for to post my final tier ranking.
(S) Dante, Dormammu, Zero, Ultron, Nova, Jedah, Gamora
(A) Firebrand, Strider Hiryu, Monster Hunter, Rocket Racoon, Spider-Man, Haggar, Sigma, Captain Marvel, Thor
(B) Thanos, Nemesis, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Iron Man, X, Captian America, Arthur, Chun-Li, Hawkeye, Morrigan, Spencer
© Hulk, Frank West, Black Panther
(D) Chris, Ryu
Been using Time/Strange/Jedah and already it seems OD. Strange seems nigh impossible to approach if you have your zoning patterns set up. And his reversal super into tag is pretty strong. Time Strange gets, even more, mobility and true 50/50 setups in neutral/post kill. As for zoners with time: Stalling is really strong with them post kill. Flight characters can fly high, spam time with little to no risk and setup mix ups from the ground up. I know it’s early days, but Time Strange might be one of the most OD characters. Again, this may sound like an exaggeration, but he’s just so good with that stone. Little to no commitment plus beams that can fill the screen is much fun.
Not to mention Strange has both Daggers and Vishanti to catch people just lingering at the top of the screen. Run him with somebody like Strider or Dante and you even get combos from Vishanti!
Something kinda BS about Soul Surge is that the hitbox moves up with taller characters. Meaning, short guys can crouch under Soul Surge from Nemesis easily, but not against Ryu or an average height character.
Jedah is nerfed because people insist on calling his pinwheels “fidget spinners” and it makes baby Donovan weep.
What characters are best with Time Stone out of curiosity?
Anyone that has long ranged projectile or attack that doesn’t have a rekka/cancel property. Allowing you to cancel the recovery of said long ranged move and spam it faster than usual.
Notes from testing the patch
- Reality stone basically got berfed. 1 character reality stone got nerfed for the most part because it goes away if they get hit
BUT 2 character reality stone might have been buffed really. The homing is slightly toned on the reality ball and if you quickly air dash in another direction after getting near it it won’t switch as fast, but it does travel faster so zoning characters that can already lock up the screen will force it to affect where you are faster. The big thing is that reality surge, tag requires you to his the tagged out/assist character in order to remove the ball. Hitting the tagged in point character WILL NOT remove the surge so if you can find a way to reality surge tag and cover the partner they still can’t do shit to stop the surge other than shoot it out with a projectile. This is going to make certain projetile/teleport heavy teams very strong with the faster surge.
The only real guaranteed way to remove both balls during a reality surge tag is to do some big beam super or use a projectile that can pierce well. Otherwise reality teams can now cover their reality surge with an essentially faster ball.

Space Storm nerf is pretty noticeable. Timer nerf combined with the storm regularly depleting as you land hits is going to make it tougher to make the 50 percent storm cheap. If you don’t land a meaty into an immediate hit you won’t have as much room to land a good combo into a level 3 on a hit. Almost full storm will still be really cheap though and space surge can still be spammed the fastest of all of the surges during capture states or flight stalling moments. Basically still cheap and likely still the best stone, just have to have a brain to use the 50 percent storm now.
-
Zero DP/super nerfs are pretty noticeable. Cross up heavy buttons can easily stuff him out of his DP now. Trades more often so not as dumb in general. Rainjinshou super is still really cheap, but it doesn’t beat out other really invincible supers anymore. If Morrigan activates shadow servant level 1, he now gets rightfully blown up if he tries to activate second.

Dorm nerfs, 300 frame/5 second pushblock changes aren’t that big of a deal. Rose garden change doesn’t matter much when the shorter lockdown is probably better for just forcing the issue of doing a stalking flare and tagging in your partner for lockdown. I tried a bunch of shit in training mode to get the pushback to work on projectile lockdowns and nothing was working. Unless there’s something I’m missing or the patch has an issue, you still can’t do jack shit to push characters away during beam super/tag lockdown.
I even did shit like rose garden xxx stalking flare tag in Zero and I was pushblocking all day and no one was getting pushed back at all. You must need something ridiculously long to create the pushback. Which by that time you’ve already gotten hit or they can just reset your block stun to reset the timer.
Do you mean characters that are strongest with Time as their stone or the strongest characters in Time?
two lists for both plz lol
Bucky/Time calling it now.
Something I accidentally figured out about Mind Stone. Apparently the air version is actually pretty solid for neutral use.

Accidentally hit the mind surge button trying to jump away in the corner from an opponent and as they jumped up at me it just grabbed them up.
Air mind surge is 4 frame start up which is as fast as the fastest jabs in the game and I think only Rocket, Spiderman and maybe one other character has 4 frame jabs. There are some 4 frame specials also and Spencer’s armor piercer I believe is 3 frame which is the same start up as throws. So air Mind Surge allows you to suck up anything that’s flying at you before its hit box comes out with something that is only one frame slower than a neutral throw.
Air mind stone is 6f startup and 4f active

it has a tiny ass hitbox however, you need to be above your opponent for it to work
Done that before, going for it consistently? Pffft. Widow BTW may be a problem. Venom so far are coming to grips that he can’t quite Yolo like he used to.
But fuck me if Venom is fun as shut with Rocket. Traps on my traps boys!

Ah ok. I remember reading the number 4 so, that was active frames. 6 is pretty fast still.
I’ve been able to grab people above and below me with it, just not a huge hit box. Seems best so far for catching air dash movements or anything that doesn’t have an attack box. Like a more rewarding air grab basically. It seems that air dashes expand the hurt box of the opponent to make them easier to grab. Like grabbing a character that is just doing regular jumps is difficult, but someone air dashing at you with a button expands their box greatly to make a mind grab easier. Making it dangerous to abuse air dashes vs a mind user.
Chris isn’t Low Tier anymore.

Chris isn’t Low Tier anymore.
I dont think chris was low tier ever honestly.
Its just the top tier dominated him so much, now they dominate him less, and the reality stone doesn’t shutdown his magnum.
The damage buff is nice, but the magnum buff and system changes really helped him.
So i guess he was low tier lol.
Chris was definitely in my low tier list
