Yeah there’s some interesting stuff, like if you press Fierce normally
and hold it down and jump into someone you can get a throw. The OS
is strong here too.
Played a Spiderman player yesterday and holy fuck he rocked my world
This guy is fast as fuck, why are people not messing with him now?
Oh there’s a bunch, definitely viable, even more viable with roll back lag. There’s some STUPID capture state setups with him too. He’s just suffering the Chun Li effect. People like a more direct simplified, efficient approach to pushing their buttons. I play against a Spiderman/Chun Li player and I feel like I’m literally just blocking hoping he’ll mess up.
Because he’s hard and there is abc shit in the game.
Mash dp/lariat cuz fuck that noise
I’m a Spiderman main. He’s reasonably hard to use, especially with online conditions. I swear since his light attacks have so little hit stun; I get screwed on rollback all the time online. It’s kind of tough to convert on air to air hits when compared to the other rush down archetype characters. The biggest problem with him is that he doesn’t do much for his teammate as far as getting in with plus frames and tagging in his partner for any kind of mixup.
What he does have going for him is 4 frame jab (allows for full punish if your opponent does a raw tag). He’s extremely fast and has pretty much an overhead you cannot react too. I think he’s a good character solo due to his speed. I think there’s some real dirt with his Ultimate-Web-Throw hyper but I haven’t found it yet (I want to make it where my opponent has to either tag a hit from my just-entered tag partner or eat the hyper throw). His punch hyper is also invulnerable on startup as well.
My biggest problem with Spiderman is that someone like Nova just seems all around better. Chun Li is probably better as well. I make him work for me because I like the character, but I feel held back.
This, along with its mad synergies with web zip, is why so many Spiderman players swear by Power stone.
You know what? I’m content with this rebalance on the 5th prior to BotS. There’s a lot of good players out there but my top two imo are gonna be FChamp and SonicFox, and both of those players are getting hit with nerfs, mainly thorns and Raccoons traps, so both players are going to have to adjust which they’re both capable of doing. For other people it sucks, but it evens the playing field and BotS is going to be crazy anyway, the powers of these stones make these nerfs irrelevant anyway. Both FChamp and SonicFox found consistent lockdown patterns and both got hit with the Hammer, so the nerfs are fair do.
The nerfs aren’t that bad really. They just have to come up with quicker patterns. Dorm is still going to lock you down and open you up. That won’t change much. Coon will just have to work a little bit faster to open you up
Battle For The Stones will be using the current, pre-patch, build, and while they did lower the duration of the Shame Cube, they didn’t touch Rocket at all. He might lose some stuff with Jedah, since he’s getting hit with some of the universal OTG/Capture State changes, but Rocket’s completely untouched, so he’s going to be fine. Besides, Champ’s also got Carol and a soon-to-be-buffed Ghost Rider in his pocket too if he wants to pull them out in the future.
Rocket Raccoon changes were on an alternative list that also mentioned Haggar, and he’s getting adjustments to his traps.
mind stone just needs a slight buff. if you land the command throw it should yield 15%…seeing as you wont be using it nearly as much in neutral and if you use it and miss you might die.
Yeah it’s disproportionately harder to build meter for mind stone than other stones because it’s risky to whiff in neutral unless you’re using a flight character or have someone in a capture state and tag.
Even if you do land the command grab if they have 2 meters they can counter switch out the grab which can screw up resets and force you to hit them early and deal with the scaling. If you have 2 characters it’s easy to tag to cover it whiffing, but it’s probably the worst surge once you’re by yourself. I’m assuming the development team did that on purpose because they feel OD amounts of meter doesn’t need a crazy surge, but you have stones that lock people in a box and bring your character back to life and duo them
With the space stone timer getting nerfed it should be one of the better storms on 50 percent activation. Power, time and reality I feel are stones that are OK on 50 percent activation, but generally not as oppressive as 50 percent space or soul activate
Mind Surge would be a hell of a lot better if they just made the ground version’s startup match the air version. Not entirely sure why they made the ground start up so slow; you can say you’re afraid of giving some characters a command throw, but other stones offer a stable AA, teleport, and homing projectile. Mind Stone buffs should be entirely to the Surge. There isn’t really a whole lot to do with Mind Storm that isn’t already there without being redundant.
Something that I think is really interesting is activating Mind Storm during a block string and reversal hypering out. Spider Man and Nova are both really good examples of this, and can make decent use of Mind Surge in air resets. I’m having trouble finding a character that can really spam hypers other than Hawkeye though; Arthur has a lot of limitations, and Doctor Strange can’t really throw out Vishanti in this game like he could before. Dormammu can’t have multiple Stalking Flares out, so that limits his ability to capitalize on the Mind Storm meter gain. Who else can potentially burn through meter stupidly fast without killing themselves?
I saw that, but considering they weren’t mentioned in the official notes by Capcom, I’d imagine they’ve been scrapped. Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I’m not expecting them to be there on the 5th.
Final Tier List prepatch, IMO:
Top Tier/S: Zero, Dante, Dormammu, Gamora, Nova, Sigma, Ultron
High Tier/A: Jedah Dohma, Chun-Li, Thanos, Strider Hiryu, Thor, Capt. Marvel, Spiderman, Megaman X, Monster Hunter
Mid Tier/B: Firebrand, Rocket Raccoon, Mike Haggar, Capt. America, Ironman, Hawkeye, Morrigan Aensland, Arthur, Nemesis, Dr. Strange, Nathan Spencer, Ghost Rider
Lower Mid/C: Frank West, Hulk
Low Tier/D: Chris Redfield, Black Panther, Ryu
For the gems as well:
Top Tier/S: Reality, Space, Soul
Mid Tier/A: Time, Power
Low Tier/B: Mind
Reality - The surge is spammable and controls the pace and neutral of the match, even if there are ways around it. The Storm Freeze activation is cheap as hell and it is debatable ATM if it is the second best storm of all.
Space - Has the best storm bar none with the jail that lasts forever and the surge is very strat heavy and meter friendly.
Soul - A very good one with the almost full screen ray that gives you life and hitstun plus the resurrection and double teams are a factor. A well used Soul storm guarantees a character kill at least, upon activation.
Both Time and Power guarantees a Level 3 upon hit during a storm with Time edging Power because of more use overall in the neutral, which helps many characters.
Mind is absolutely useless as the risk of connecting a surge outweighs the reward and by the time you finally get enough for the storm activation, you already lost or are on your way to losing a character, and losing a character from your team in this game is almost like an 85% overall damage. It is THAT crippling!!!
Plus, the storm gives you meter but doesn’t guarantees Level 3 or situations like the other storms do.
The Mind gem needs buffs because as it is, is useless in this game.
Reality and Space got IMO some fair nerfs and the others are fine. Buff Mind with meter plus usage and better frames and range on ground and you have a useful gem and an overall very balanced gem system.
That’s about it…
Double Post.
So, I had a 1 ms monitor @ 60 HZ. Swapped it out and now I realize I must have been psychic before. MY GAWD response time is so much better. It’s weird how the human brain can adapt to weird shit. I remember playing Unreal Tournament on a 28K modem and getting headshots.
That is all.
I was gonna do a tier list, but with a patch coming so soon I’ll probably wait till sometime in January to put out anything. Wanted to do something more extensive that accounts for support characters and not just S A B C D per single character like it’s a KOF game or something.
Will make a post on where I think the stones are and where they may be going after the patch.
Oh and Hulk is definitely slept on. Gamma charge is stupid with the tag system and eventually you’ll start running into Hulks that sit on his free level 3 during a storm. Like Zero, he also has a non cinematic level 3 (Gamma Quake, visually different from the old one) and it does a ton of damage (and can very easily do lots of damage if it catches a happy bday). There’s almost no way to reliably press buttons against a Hulk player that has activated a storm. Unless you teleported or air dashed far behind him before he started it you’ve gotta hold shit. I can only imagine how stupid that gets with soul storm. It does like 4 to 5,000 + damage raw even if only the last hit hits you. Even if Morrigan shadow servant supers afterwards to counter, she still has to take like 3,000 damage if she has most of her health on a trade.
He should be at minimum B tier with a ground gamma charge that creates a foot dive length HKD on hit and a non cinematic Gamma Quake level 3 that starts up very fast, is very invincible and can be tagged off of on hit or block for more shit. Whetever he lost in Marvel 3 armor is starting to be made up for with this new stupid shit. No insta chicken blocking rule helps him as well as he can just throw big ass normals and gamma charges at you to keep you from jumping then move in for a command grab later.
Where do you guys think Reality Stone will be after the patch? Reality Storm is arguably one of the worst storm options, and new Reality Surge is probably just behind Power/Time Surges in effectiveness. I still think the team format for each stone goes:
- Power: Airdash characters
- Time: Characters that abuse the mobility option, confirm Time Storm into resets/level 3
- Space: Some oppressive lockdown shit by dictating the opponent’s position
- Reality: Put hitboxes on the screen
- Mind: Point+Hawkeye, basically
- Soul: Double installs
