MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

Spencer is still pretty solid. He hits hard enough for this game and he basically has the best HSD glitch since it’s an infinite.

Yeah, I have come around a little on Spencer.

Absent the HSD glitch though, I still think most teams would rather have, say, Spidey or Ultron in his spot.

I distinctly remember losing a start-of-round jab fight to Dante as Spider-Man once. I was mashing before the round, so…idk about that 9 frame thing…

I play Firebrand and I’ve definitely lost start of round against Dante

Dante’s fastest normal is his c.lk @ 8 frames. Gotta mash harder lol

Could have not been close enough unless you were right next to him. I already checked Tool Assisted data who pulled the early data for SFV also. He usually is right with the data.

It’s also been a hard defined weakness of his gameplay since Vanilla. He had the slowest frames of a non big body in 3

I’ve lost face to fact against Dante too, but it was online. Who knows.

Yup.

Did a good 5 or so match test with Dante’s normals vs Megaman’s normals at round start. Dante’s s.LP vs X’s s.LP. Megaman’s s.LP won everytime except for one time where it traded because the opponent forgot to press s.LP with X quickly enough and got a trade. Even being lazy he still TRADED. Otherwise Megaman got a clean counter hit win everytime at the start. Dante’s c.LK lost also.

To put this in reference I did another test with Morrigan’s s.LP vs X’s s.LP and Morrigan’s s.LP beat X’s s.LP everytime. So if Megaman’s seemingly slower s.LP beat both of Dante’s fastest lights, he’s screwed vs anyone faster.

Was tested offline. I already figured this beforehand since I main Dante now and I lose a lot of close range scrambles. It’s only from a range where Dante wins stuff. This is on top of no invincible special or level 1. Which is why some Dantes (especially in tournament) resort to throwing Storm level 3’s in scrambles. No more 2 frame start up (1 frame start in Vanilla) snapbacks to mash.

main dante now another one bites the dust…

Dante’sgame plan is

Get hit
Go into crazy dance
Tag switch into character that can setup and possibly continue combo or set play.

I mean seriously once yoi crazy dance you can setup with strange, dorm, coon, any character with an install, and have your way. I literally do that shit and setup with Gamora Kage Bushin no jutsu and get free mixuos for it. We have seen Richard and Cloud do the same thing. We have also seen teams with space stone spam that shit to get the opponent in a box 3-4 times a match. Not sure how much time stone builds but I am sure it helps with that too. Its basically the sonic fox game plan with arguably a better character over Jedah. Matter of fact once SF gets figured out it wouldn’t surprise me if he picked up Dante.

Online makes everyone’s jab the same speed, apparently…I also won a start of round with Hulk’s impact punch (f.HP) against a mashing Ultron. Online is weird.

Yeah, I gave up on reliably interrupting switches online with Coons jab. Offline? No problem. Reason why I gotta get me a "Come to my house crew"
what? Go to Next Level? But, but, my house is so comfy.

This honestly isn’t limited to Dante. In fact, this should be the goal of anyone building a team.

Space stone? Frank gets a free Level 3 setup in the box which gets him to level 5 instantly. Works really well when you corner them.

That’s cute.

I didn’t say it was. However Dante is unique in that he has a non hyper that does and it takes a while. Most Dantes aren’t abusing this which is crazy considering I had only played this game 4 times and realized that. Richard and Cloud are the only Dantes doing this. Which isn’t surprising since they were considered the beat Dantes in Umvc3. I do agree every team should be doing this but most are not. People arr more focued on damaging combos instwad of neutral and movement.

I know a few Dante’s over here have been doing that as well, but I guess you’re referring to the big name tournament players.

That said, it’s that Marvel 3 mentality, since that game taught folks that damage was all that mattered.

Yeah the only time you actually learned setplay in Marvel 3 was after you killed a character to do the next XF/TAC ToD or you were using an actual setplay character like Firebrand. Which even Firebrand wasn’t really necessary when there was XF, TACs, Vergil and Zero.

Morrigan, Phoenix and Hidden Missiles were the only things that stopped the “damage is all that matters” meta of the game. Which is also why teams with those characters usually won.

Still not seeing enough HSD glitch in tournament. Someone needs to bust out Spencer infinite.

On a related note, tag cancel Crazy Dance also allows people to mash stone to build meter for it (and some also deal a little extra damage).

Yeah you can fit in 5 space surges during crazy dance and still follow up afterwards. If you fit in 2 crazy dances into one combo then that’s 10% stone meter built into 1 combo into setplay.
