MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

Only thing that looks off at first glance to me is Chun in C tier. But outside of the order within each tier I think this is a good reflection of where the game is right now.

Tbh I think everybody in c teir minus BP can be moved up, they all have stuff that needs to be respected

I’d move thanos down aswell tbh

Poor BP, it would have been so easy to make him dope too even with
the animations moves they currently have with him if there wasn’t a wall
cling restriction. Still wouldn’t be busted but would need some tweaking.
(My boys modding him to allow a forward wall cling and cling cancels on block,
got the forward wall cling so far. Admittedly it’s SUPER offensive and kind of makes
up for lack of flight but hard to control. Doesn’t fix his main issue though which is
hitboxes on screen as he approaches but with reality stone it’s fucking stupid annoying
which may be some of the method to the madness)

List is pretty good. Few grievances but generally speaking what
this shows is the game has pretty good balance. Unfortunately
Dante/Zero/Nova imo are a cut about the rest with Ultron being right
behind imo.

I don’t see Haggar/Nemesis/X being a tier below Spencer.

You could probably move BP down, the rest of C tier up, and rename D tier to be the new C tier.

And I kind of feel that Hulk and Chris probably both have teams where they would out-perform their normal bottom tier status.

Stones help the bottom tier compete. Guess which one?

Power, lol. At least for me. Don’t have a fast move that needs to be respected? Equip one.

I could see power, but I was thinking reality, reality, reality stone ha
I punish whiffed power stones all day. I generally see the mid tier (who can
cross you up easier) better at power stone. Reality gives them a more versatile
spammable gtfo and cover me option.

The thing I like about power stone is that it allows you to flowchart a bit and not worry too much during scrambles, which are a big part of the game now. You just throw it out, and if it hits you get about 3 seconds of breathing room to refocus. If it’s blocked or wiffs, you can tag and reset neutral. Wash, rinse, repeat. It trades extremely well with reality, and eats armor. The drawback is that the storm, which only benefits on offense, is not often available when you would really want/need it since it’s a ā€œcomebackā€ mechanic. I spam the surge alot, and I still only get to use the storm offensively about 10% of my matches. The other times it’s just a guard cancel into lvl3 to get out of mixups.

Power Surge is the foot dive of this game. B)

I could see Haggar in B Tier, but I don’t think X can cut it. He has poor movement, mixup and buttons. He should be a good support, but I can think of 5+ other characters that do more for their partner than he does.

I was going to say the same about power stone. It’s the closest thing to foot dive or psy blade in the game. I remember watching heartnana’s stream and he was going off with power stone salt lol. Jab jab power surge go ham.

I don’t mind reality stone because most people online don’t know how to convert off of it. It’s like a shifty hidden missiles when fighting most people online and eventually I’m going to time surge in or rain dance on top of it and blow them up. Whereas with power surge you time surge in at the wrong time or jump up at the wrong angle and bam. I usually have to be much more patient vs power than reality.

I think X is severely underrated. It’s mainly due to people forgetting he has an install. As an X player, you should feel naked without that shit. It’s about as important to him as gold armor is to Arthur. Not as extreme, of course, but there’s a significant difference in his viability depending on whether or not he’s using it. I call X with mind stone being a strong end game combo.

I think Arthur and Megaman should ideally always be in Mind Stone. Both characters are much stronger when they have their power ups going and power up supers don’t freeze the meter gain which is good.

I think Megaman was pretty much designed around the mind stone as it’s tough to always have the meter for armor up in the other stones. It also gives him a command grab so he has a way to force people to chicken block as he gets close (even if the ground grab is kinda slow, can always tag after).

I like Mind on him too, but his comeback potential is pretty low if you lose his partner due to his slow movement and weak mixups.

I like his instant overheads but they only work on a few members of the cast (video for example)

Seems like his armored up form should be his baseline form imo

imo, a big deal for Mind Stone will be getting resets into Mind Surge. Strider, for example, already has reset potential out the ass; now imagine him with an air command grab. Additionally, being able to get special combos off of the grab will make potential resets that much scarier. Strider also wins here, since you can just go straight into Gram loops during the stun. You can then put all that meter into Orbs + whatever dumb hyper your other character has.

Zero is one of those few characters that had both godlike normals and godlike specials

and supers. That’s why I personally rate him just a bit over Dante. Dante is really strong neutrally and with pressure, but once someone sticks him down he’s kinda fucked. Even if you try to stick Zero down he’s got invincible special and super that can turn momentum around. His raijinshou level 1 is extremely dangerous as it’s a double sided lockdown super that basically can turn a defensive situation into offense whether it hits you or you block it.

Dante still has the slow start up frames issue as well. His lights are 9 frame start up which is 4 frames slower than most of the other cast. All of his defense has to be preemptive as once you get close to making him block he’s not winning the speed game to mash back. You can mash throw which is 3 frame start and his ground throw has more range than other ground throws, but that’s forcing you to throw a really slow heavy normal if they aren’t within throw range and will lose to anything aerial any way…

The fact that Zero has an invincible level 1 that locks down, invincible dp, genmu zero and a sogenmu that lasts twice as long as the Marvel 3 one is absolutely absurd even for Marvel balancing.

Dante and Dorm are good at point or support. Zero is the better point than both but his support factor isn’t as high.

Spidey is a hybrid like them, just doesn’t bring rose garden/million dollars/stalking flare/dark hole/all of Dante’s moves for the lockdown potential.

Web ball and Spidey’s mixup is insane. Also like the fastest character in the game.

Tornado super is really fuckin good. Not only is it invincible, it also moves him upward and shrinks his hurtbox. That means trying to counter the tornado with a level 3 or your invincible super would still lose since he’s not at the spot to get hit.

As for Dante, I still think he is better and the best character in the game. He has better normals and deals with zoning better than Zero can. Damage wise, Dante also does more. I think Dante also has better specials even though he doesn’t have a DP.

Zero is top 5 though along the likes of Ultron, Gamora, Nova and Firebrand. Maybe Jedah is is in top 5 too.

I think Dorm is some what overrated although rose garden function is super strong. He’s much better as a support character than a point characte. He has the same problems as in UMVC3. He’ll most definitely be relevant throughout the games life though.

That’s partly why I have Zero/Dante/Nova/Ultron as my top 4/S tier atm. Zero/Nova are the best point characters in the game, and Dante/Ultron are great on point but also provide a ton of support value.

I think Nova has better movement and normals than Zero, but Zero’s use of meter puts him at #1 for me.

BTW, should check out Rayray’s stream from tonight if you want some insight on Spencer. Starting every round off with 3f armor piercer tag into Ultron 4 way mixup was pretty cute. I don’t think he’s A Tier, but he can definitely work.
