MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

Yeah, I don’t like using box to try to run mix-ups either (except when I’ve got a character whose level 3 is a command grab anyway).

But I think confirm into box mid-combo to force a kill is underrated atm.

Not gonna lie, post got me excited to try the team out lol, Nova/Dorm > Nova>Gam tho right?

If both Nova and Dorm’s best stone is reality, why was Teemo using space last weekend?

My point is that power stone allows you to extend combos in the corner regardless of there being a wall bounce limit, even if you’ve used your wall bounce once already.

Maybe he feels more more comfortable with space stone?

Maybe space storm is still the best storm in the game? Just having a space storm ready is a game changer. You can’t lockdown or reaction punish with super anymore since all it takes is an activation to make things safe and put you in the box without letting you tag out.

But ultimately, you should ask him yourself why he used Dorm/Nova with space stone

@VersatileBJN007 Nova Dorm is also good. Better hard to say since the game is still new. I remember in Marvel 3 most of us felt Dorm was top tier, but Dorm players didnt think so and he started to fall off. He tends to be one of those characters that goes once he gets going, but once people start picking apart weaknesses he falls off. Thinking the same will happen in this game. Depends on how necessary he stays to making the best teams.

I just personally like Gamora because she will likely set up strong enough set play while having good anti set play and projectile spam options (invincible level 1, God guns beatings projectiles). I don’t like all in setplay teams like Nova Dorm and Jedah Dante because you pretty much have to play space stone with those teams to escape lockdown or use Soul and come back to life enough times to win. Rather have a team that has something invincible or can stop things before they stop without burning storm all of the time.

I’m pretty sure Ouro already explained most of why he used space. It may not give every character their ideal neutral, but the Storm gives you the best reversal in the game and it’s basically the best stone in the game or tied with Soul for best stone

Space storm, especially against certain opponent can give you 3-4 50/50 or damn near unblockables in this game. Also allows you to safe tag against a good portion of the cast and trap a weak opponent. It truly is the best stone just on the strength of the storm.

The new Dormammu costume is massively deceptive, the lack of his cloak makes his hit boxes look smaller than they actually are, it’s confusing for the player too.

Morrigan’s shadow servant might be the most invincible level 1 in the game. I’ve seen it beat other invincible level ones or trade at worst. It’s an extremely good GTFO super and if it hits you can tag in point character and usually convert into combo. Unless you’re using it against Dr.Strange or Thanos it’s pretty free to throw out there. Astral Vision isn’t as cheap as it was before, but it lasts almost twice as long, still lets you build meter and make her spears cover a lot more area of the screen and easier to convert from.

And Morrigan’s level 3 is one of the most combo-able in the game, which is a nice advantage.

When you’re stuck between @“DevilJin 01” GaNovah theoretically exciting mind stone team and Teemo’s actual tournament winning team sigh

Unpopular opinion but I think Zero is the best character in the game and over Dante.

Dante is Top Tier unquestionably but Zero with his get out of jail wakeup/reversal game, Space Gem shenanigans and still overall great priority is a ridiculous pain and pest.

If he isn’t the best in the game, he is second but not further down than that.

I also think Zero is better than Dante, he’s just harder to use due to optimization requiring charge and release strategies which not everyone will bother to learn. With Dante you don’t need to charge or release anything, you just do Dante stuff and don’t let anyone lock you down.

With Zero otherwise he’s basically just as strong neutrally except you can’t just force him to block and then he’s screwed. Forcing Zero into a close pressure situation just means he can still dp you or invincible level 1 you and then you can be screwed for trying to get into a good situation vs him

Exactly.

Knocking Zero down is a mind game not in your favor.

Zero is the only character that I truly feel that once you FINALLY get a hit, blow all your resources and kill him inmediately.

All his tools and his comeback factor with even pixels of life is off the charts.

Not as worries about Zero, found buttons with Coon to deal with a lot of his shit. Granted if I’m in lockdown it’s hell either way. Dante though? Pfffft. At best I’d put him on the same tier, not better.
On the character select screen however as they say, “Why not have both?”

This would be my current tier list based on initial tourney results, stream monstering and talk. They’d be roughly in this order within the tiers, too.

S Tier
Zero, Dante, Nova, Ultron

A Tier
Dormammu, Rocket Raccoon, Strider, Spider-Man, Jedah, Gamora, Firebrand

B Tier
Spencer, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Captain America, Arthur, Monster Hunter, Ghost Rider, Thanos, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Morrigan

C Tier
Haggar, Nemesis, Sigma, Chun-Li, Black Panther, Mega Man X

D Tier
Hulk, Frank West, Ryu, Chris

S-C tier seems playable. There are some characters that just get outclassed in all the things they do by other similar characters though so I’m not sure why you’d pick them.

Over time I could see Gamora dropping to the top of B tier. Firebrand, Captain Marvel, Strange, Panther have some upward potential.

I think Thor is A tier. Other than weak supers he’s a beast.

Hulk is shittier than his Marvel 3 self but he still hurts and his Level 3 is dangerous. Also, all he needs is that one hit…

Lower Mid to Mid is good for Hulk. He ain’t as shit as Chris.

Also, curious…

Why Frank West in Low Tier?

System changes made level 5 much worse:

  • No chip on his normals
  • Damage-based scaling limits his potential
  • Mobility still ass
  • His godly j.M is now j.LP, with the associated scaling from a jab applied
  • Even if he started at 5, he’d just be B-tier on the above list (no way is he on par with Dormammu, Strider, or Gamora)

Hulk does same damage as everybody else doesn’t he?

He seems to have potential and is up there for the big bodies, but I can’t see anyone in A Tier that I’d bump down to make room for him.

Damage isn’t a big differentiator in this game though. It’s more about oppression, mixup, movement and enabling the partner.

System changes took away his most broken stuff, but still left the liabilities. I’d play Monster Hunter instead if I wanted big normals + a roll.
