MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

This has been Justin’s MO since forever. He’s definitely the most patient player in Marvel history, and that contributes to the so-called “Wong factor”.

Just pick Monster Hunter and Dante. It’s the most UNGGA team in the game, regardless of stone.

I liked Chris G’s MorriHun team. It seemed like it was something he took a bit of time to put together, just needs more time to optimize.

The Spiderman Hawkeye shit just seemed like some shit he tacked together to help him with certain matchups. He needs a consistent team is the main thing. He went from Team Darkstalkers to JeTony to MorriHun and SpiderEye just since launch and using them all in tournament which has to be pretty stressful. He doesn’t seem to have a go to, meta oriented team like the other top players. That was his issue in early Ultimate also as he was bouncing off a lot of characters on his MorriDoom team and also had some Wesker Hawkeye teams. I guess the scariest part about Chris G right now is that you literally can’t know who he’s going to play until you fight him in the bracket.

Yup, same guy. Crack bringing people back.

Nah, while I messed with Donte for a little bit he bores the shit out of me. I can’t even stand watching those long ass ridiculous comboes when I’m doing them. Rocket and MonHun is a good combination of fair and cheap where my opponent can properly feel out played in match vs the character select screen. I’m never going to be top tier tournament talent so my sole goal is the maximum embarrassment making people eat shit they could have prevented.

Playing Dante feels like I’m playing Killer Instinct 1.

You have to play Dante/Thanos and land a happy birthday in order to get true KI1 Cinder.

I just realized why they didn’t put Super Skrull in Infinite. Meteor Smash tag would cause Infinite amounts of salt.

Yea that Hawkeye team needs to go. No idea why he ran that team vs champ. I was waiting for the switch to his MH team

Dante had to make the one true sacrifice of being fun to play in exchange for being top tier… I can’t blame him for it

I think Hawkeye is there for just for him to counter Dormammu

Play BP, it costs a bar but tracking Meteor Panther is a thing. It’s like Skrulls Level 3 with a ground bounce for 1 bar.
Granted, that means having to play BP.

Nothing wrong with a Hawkeye team, but what kind of synergy does spidey/Hawkeye have?

Low mobility low damage no mix up potential. How exactly does this make him a decent character? Sorry guys I’m not buying the hype.

People said the same stuff about Ghost Rider in MvC3. Until somebody shows off tech that actually makes him a real threat he’s only going to get worse. Mid-tier counter pick character is Ghost Rider’s best potential but he’s likely just going to be low tier again.

Damage is a stupid basis for judging strength since every does just about the same amount of damage thanks to how HSD works.

Damage used to be a pretty good indicator of tiers back in the days, but in the new school it tends to be less relevant, very true.

I’m still looking to find some crazy synergy with something.

I think that perhaps making teams that are less all around but instead focus on a single aspect with a stone to cover weaknesses or expand on strengths might be the next thing to look forward to doing.

We’ve got:

zoning
Attacking/rushdown
Reversals
Lockdown
Specialty like a meter based team or teams based around armor or something.

I wonder how something like hawkeye/Arthur could do with a mindstone. Hawkeye gets a command grab which can be very useful for him on defense as an AA or on offense as a mixup also gets major gimlet tags. Arthur gets meter for gold armor.

Both characters would synergize with each other for keepaway and could possibly tag with each other as much as an offense based team could, for the ranged frame advantage. Laming out gold armor would be less effective since the other part of the team would also be keepaway.

The team might be good with powerstone as well for the “reversal” I feel like maybe we aren’t fully appreciating the options this games meta gives us with respect to stones being able to make certain styles of teams more viable or dare i say it, maybe even top tier.

I definitely think more Hawkeye players should use mind or power. Mind gives them a legit mix up threat at all times once they get near and power gives a similarly strong protection against offense that knocks people far back with the surge. While having a storm that can help him lock people down.

Mind probably being the best since Hawkeye with a command grab and a million gimlets to tag off of sounds OD. Mind stone isn’t being used enough in general. Having an OD surge isn’t that important. Tourney winning stones are the ones with the best storms (Space/Soul). A team with strong tag synergy doesn’t need a surge to spam. They can already spam their own tools within tags.

Monster hunter is the best character at forcing respect , don’t you dare box dash at me or press buttons, reality in her face without thinking

Probably the best big body imo

But from half screen,

Monster Hunter is my current pet project. Lets me bully more than any of the characters, her and Rocket are too fun to play together.
Completely NOT who I expected to play MvCI but eh. Sometimes you can’t rock the characters you like. (In my case BP Sigh)

i feel the same way. never thought i would be putting in work on strange. on the fence pairing him with bp, chun, or strider

The important thing about Mind Surge is setting up resets to circumvent the initial scaling. Done well, it can very much be a “win more” stone. You can potentially get even more defensive benefit than Soul through extra counter switching, and pull off MvC1 duo hyper bullshit with all the extra meter+tag.

Speaking of Mind Stone, I had a setup used on me that was simple but pretty grimy. Do Arthur’s lvl1, halfway through do a jump and tag. The incoming character gets a free surge on most characters. If they try to attack or jump, they get caught by the goddess bracelet.

Dorm can also force easy surges with thorns. If the opponent pushblocks and jumps out, you can get them with the air surge with very few problems. Most of their options risk falling back into thorns.

Watching Nick Jones’ Captain Marvel play, makes me think she is probably one of the better Power Stone users due to being able to armor it. His play with her was not that impressive really, but armor + Power Surge spam seems legit. Probably a good call too if you expect reality spam (and you should).

I dunno if I like the team though. It didn’t seem bad, but I’d didn’t seem that good. Just two different strats that happen to run the same character.

His Captain America looked good. I think he’d be a good Soul Stone user. Invincible moves makes Soul Storm much harder to interrupt, especially with the down, down motion, and life leech is probably best on a naturally defensive character,
