MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

I think the point of powerstone is to tag when using it… unsafe shit is always done with a tag.

Not that people don’t do it raw, but you get caught doing blocked DP’s on sf4 without 2 meters and that’s yo ass. Same here. Make sure you can tag otherwise you are betting the farm.

This is pretty true. FB has crazy good movement but its value goes way down if the screen is full of bullshit.
I actually think Hawkeye is a really tricky matchup for Firebrand.
It is incredibly difficult for FB to navigate all the different crap Hawkeye can put out, but once FB is in, he can almost beat Hawkeye for free.
Of course, this is all not accounting for teammates or Stone options, which can sway the matchup one way or the other.

she has good synergy with other top tier characters but I still really struggle to see any reason to play her over Ultron

storm was one of the worst characters in umvc3… Carol is definitely not one of the worst in infinite. she’s better than half the cast easily but I don’t think she belongs in the discussion of the top tiers at all

blitz blow is actually a good way to set up tags and she has maybe the easiest time of anybody in the game except for zero getting clean hits on stupid tags you’ve predicted. meaty blitz blow, profit

Get ahead, reflect that shit. I wouldn’t suggest starting Brand versus Hawkeye honestly. Personally I just demon missile over to his ass and tag someone else in.

Is it too early to tier best marvel players yet?

Bow down to our Canadian overlords…

Is there a reason why ghost rider isn’t considered the worst character in the game?

Because Chris still exists???

And Ghost Rider isn’t actually bad???

Ghost rider is pretty good. He’s not where the bottom.

You would have to tier for different things at this point.

Best overall player? By far its j Wong imo. He has the best marvel fundamentals out there.
Best team construction? Probably sonicfox. He put the 2 characters he plays on the map.
Cleanest player, meaning the guy with the least amount of slop, probably kazunoko. There was an Oregon player that used hawkeye and gamora that was also super clean iirc.

Champ and Chris g are in there somewhere as is Richard Nguyen but he usually falls off.
Teemo can’t yet be considered till he takes more than one tourney/gets multiple top 8’s. At this point he’s a good player that people didn’t see coming even though he isn’t new to the marvel scene iirc his play is new to mvci.

Who else? Don’t know. There are other names out there but no one super worth mentioning.
The game is still more than early enough to where if a player with decent skills comes out and has either a new team or a new take on an old team, they can go further in tournament than what their skill might warrrant in a longer set.

Because he can actually cover the space that he’s supposed to cover.
Smaller screen + new/buffed moves + Tag system all benefitted him greatly.
He’s still very linear and can’t hit the area above him very well, but he’s better than before.

I mean, he might still be near the bottom overall, but at this point in the game he’s viable.
At minimum, Ryu, Chris, and Spencer are all worse then him.

You should mention Cloud805 as well. He beats Sonicfox at Redbull proving Ground. He is very strong and for me the most advanced player right now. The way he reacts to different situations prove that he has a lot of knowledge already and muscle memory to capitalize when he opens someone.

Ghost Rider’s space control is unique in that he can’t be reflected yet does full damage at max range and even gets combos there. Being able to cancel into tag/Power Surge/Reality Surge on a whiffed st.HP is massive for him. Then there’s his multiple long-winded hit grabs, which can set up all sorts of shit.

Some of these guys I need to research but my tier list right now is

Champ
Fox
Cloud
Wong

Richard and Chris G are just outside those guys along with RayRay. Niko from Killeen Texas is good to as he has been bodying top players in online marvel. Wanna see how he does im tourney first but those are the standouts. At least the immediate ones.

I get my ps4 today and infinite aswell so now I can actually play instead of theory marvel. Hope to see some of you online.

while I can see your argument, I find Nick usage of powerstone a bit too premature, at times it looked like he was trying to start offense with power stone and not as counter option or AA. and never bother to cancel out of whiff surge with an active switch, super, or storm surge to minimise risk factor.

Chris g just needs to find a team imo. He lost at the character select screen

Nick’s power stone play did a good job dealing with Clockwork because Clockwork is basically known for doing things that revolve around lockdown and hitting a lot of buttons. That’s what his whole Marvel 2 and Marvel 3 gameplans revolved around. Which the real issue with Nick’s team is not just that he is using power stone, but that he’s using power stone with Captain America who has meterless invincibility of some type on at least 2 special moves and 3 supers. I remember Clockwork tried to Ouroboros teleport in on Nick’s Captain and of course the counter was ready to blow it up. Should have called a formation first to bait and activate a counter before going in. Not to mention Captain Marvel who can coat herself with a sheet of armor that beats light attacks and reality surge while sitting on power surge. You can’t just do a standard offensive play and land hits on that team.

Justin Wong of course blew up Nick because he’s a more patient, SF oriented player that will take his time and bait lots of button presses. Even Kazunoko has said on twitter that he’s amazed at how long Justin will just block and wait for you to do something. Which is something not many players really possess. Especially in games like Marvel where everyone wants to just hit their buttons and do their shit first. Takes a player with a lot of mental fortitude to stay patient while someone like Nick is sitting on all of that invincibility, armor and power surge. Any standard man is pressing lots of buttons and taking lots of purple punches to the face.

Nick could have covered his surges better with some tags, but generally what he did seemed to be solid enough to get him into top 8. Especially with the shield slash tag, dash over crosses with Capain Marvel that no one was blocking 100 percent.

Nick won a lot of matches because of matchup unfamiliarity. Can’t always go auto pilot offense/neutral against cap like punk did.

To me that’s Justin’s biggest strengths. He can adapt really well mid match. He doesn’t really rely on auto pilot neutral.

Monster Hunter is top

Monster Hunter is fun and good. ChrisG put in a lot of work with her in that tournament. I don’t play woman characters often but she’s my type of girl. Getting frustrated with being bullied when I get defensive at all with firebrand. I think I’m going full Rocket/Monster Hunter. I believe they’ll complement each other well with plenty of bully setups.

Is that Nick the same as Nickcam, very yolo Super Skrull player from way way back?

I’m thinking Richard will stick around this time also, his only weakness is that his Strider wasn’t quite up to his Dante’s level. Not enough IOH usage. The left/rights with Vajra and Dante will make it nearly impossible for players to keep him out though. I respect the team switch.
