i feel people are sleeping on how fast dr.strange can teleport.in like 2 seconds he can be in your face to all the way across the screen. um. tier list still a little early. we saw only one dante in top 8. hes good but not that good imo. im more surprised there wasnt at least a zero or two up there. dorm still remains strong though.
i dont think its a lack of top notch talent. if anything its because he is above basic and everybody plays him. so dealing with him is a lot easier since everybody and their mother knows what he does or is going to do.
Tier lists do not equal tournament placings. Zero in MVC3/UMVC3 saw a pretty high place in tier lists before he started getting regular wins, even then other characters
won more but no one in their right mind would say Zero isnāt top tier.
Iād actually say dealing with Dante isnāt a lot easier, itās just that when you play a busted character
itās harder for you to grab the nuances of higher level play often so youāre not as careful. Youāll get away
with more shit that some people āhavenāt figured out yet.ā
An immortal man does not have to fight skillfully, until he does and then itās too late.
So, I like firebrand but I had to realize that heās not going to really do what I want to do and also at this time in the meta his movement is still not at a premium. Little dude just gets clipped by spam all day⦠the movement is great but not if you keep running into random shit.
So I decided to copy Justinās team⦠I just didnāt want to use nova. But watching over Justinās gameplay itās pretty easy to copy, even if at a low level of play. Justin basically does this pattern⦠but with really good fundamentals:
Forward move something or other xx reality stone, tag xx forward move something or other.
Basically his entire strategy is to make you block or get hit by something then call reality stone surge tag cancel it then dash in front of it. Itās a good synergy because he gets frame advantage from the tag cancel and can go in while having reality stone come from behind and protect him, while heās attacking the opponent and keeping them from reflecting the reality stone.
After trying out a bunch of characters⦠chun seems particularly adept at this strategy. She doesnāt have novas neutral but her offense is even more oppressive because of stupid things like her heavys being jump cancelable on block.
Right now my go to pattern is ultron start, dash up or airdash forward jhp, land dash forward st.lp,st.hp xx reality xx tag, dash forward chun st.hp xx jump cancel back xx airdash forward jhp dash cr.lk,cr.hk xx jump cancel reality stone xx tag (or some version of tag if I have enough time/jump cancel into whatever if I donāt) super opppressive offense because of her overheads and lows and crossups.
Funny thing about this game is that like sf5, light attacks seems to pretty weak. Better with many characters to just spam heavys and tag cancel/do some other shit like cancel into a special.
Funny is that is online guy strategy 101 on PC and has been for a hot minute. One of the reasons why I was like yall arenāt using it right if you think itās easy to deal with.
One Dante in one top 8 tournament does not mean the character is bad at all. In SFV (Season 2), Rog and Laura werenāt winning everything or placing high but we all know people were screaming about how dumb they were constantly, while conveniently leaving Ibuki complaint-free.
Still got a long road ahead. Youāre absolutely right about Strange though, heās suuuuper underrated atm.
Ironically rockets j.L is good at contesting mad air to air. The fuckery is his jumping heavy will flat out not register at super hump height sometimes. Itās like either his hitbox shrinks/disappears or their hurt box gets even smaller. Hulk in particular becomes smaller than Rocket it seems
didnt mean to say he was bad. nor do i think that. he IS a good character. but like other characters weaknesses get shown and dealt with especially when that character is the only thing you see all the time.
dr. strange teleports is interesting because he cancel endlessly and appear here and there. gonna mess around a bit and see whats up.
Oh I know, when I run into what I call the āreality flowā I know I have to speed my shit up. Aka
throw a meat shield at the ball and tag for possible happy birthday, blow an air super and tag
if Iām playing a character with a good air super. (Firebrands is okay)
or as they say āfeel the beatā as thereās a tempo to attack attack reality stone tag to make reflecting easy. Going for the auto throw if itās done
on the ground is very viable but the risk reward is practically non existent. So is space stone tag as you jump into a reality stone ball. Messes up their pacing and eats the reality ball, puts you at advantage.
While Iām pretty good at dealing with reality flow, fuck me is it not stressful to deal with ha!
no, shitās unsafe on block and has like 6 years of recovery on whiff
the nick jones vs. Justin Wong matchup was fucking hilarious, seeing Nick just floating helplessly there as JWong whiff punished the power surge every single time he tried it
itās nice when it lands but it is a risk for sure
I see a lot of people placing Captain Marvel really high on the tier list⦠What am I missing? Her tri-dash is meh, her cross-up is meh, her beam is garbage, no teleport, no invincible reversal, no move that locks you down other than her beam super⦠Havenāt seen anyone doing well with her either. She just seems really mediocre to me, just a tad better than UMVC3 Storm.
