MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

Well there’s 30 something characters so under top 7 isn’t the worst thing in the game. Coon likely isn’t top 7 but he likely makes some of the top 7 teams ATM. Yeah Legend said he’s top tier, but yeah.

Sigma has most of what you need to be decent. Good buttons, easy ass combos with good damage off those good buttons, air dash heavy for decent overhead, solid support with lots of armor and projectile based specils that can set up for other characters etc.

Probably the most interesting thing about him is that his eye laser super is a summon super. Once he activates it the laser can’t be stopped and it puts a huge set of hit boxes on the screen that can create hidden mix ups with a tagged in partner. He’s definitely going to be a strong support character at the minimum.

It’s so easy to love and hate marvel at the same time. The game really wants you to autopilot but sometimes you just fly into a fucking wall.

Under the top 7? He’s probably a lot lower than that. There’s a difference between a character being top tier and a mid tier character. Sigma most definitely has a lot of tools. However I have questions about how potent his tools actually are. Not really seeing anyone putting any type of work or effort into the character. Also having an air dash os meaningless if it’s shit and Sigma’s is shit.

Best thing about sigma imho (and I think he’s pretty good) is his sword normals and his counter. His counter can be tagged to be safe(ish)

His fireballs that cover the screen I haven really found a great thing for… but maybe when combined with some other screen space taker might be real effective like a coon trap or or firebrand tornado or IM mines etc.

The number 7 is the number you used. Just saying he seems to be a decent character at the minimum with the tools that I’ve seen and dealt with.

Coon was nothing until Sonicfox showed up and showed off how all of his ranged/trap tools created good stuff for other characters. Sigma has potential for that also with all of the ways he can trap the screen and the laser super which summons the bottom of the screen with blind mix ups even if you block it.

It’s a tag game so you can always tag cancel any air dash into a low from another character for free hard to blockable. Which ideally you’re also partnering him with a character that has stronger high/lows. Since this is a game where you can use the tools of any character there will be a lot of finding these “Coon” characters that aren’t top tier on point, but have great hit boxes that allow other strong characters to do things that they can’t do with other characters.

There’s no denying Sigma is good. The question is how good.
I kind of doubt he’s top tier because he’s not dirty or cheap enough to compete with Dante, Zero, or Ultron.
But his tools are really good for what they are and on top of that they’re really easy to be good with.

In a sense he’s kind of like Wolverine in Ultimate. Hear me out on this.
Aside from his start of round options, Wolverine didn’t have anything super special, especially not compared to characters like Vergil, Zero, or Magneto.
But what he did have (and what Sigma has) is very good hitboxes, very simple combos, and very easy damage.
Was Wolverine top tier last game? Depends on who you ask (I say no). But at the very least, he was a solid choice right up to the very end.

Scroll up and read how that guy list 7 characters as top tier and Sigma is included. Sonicfox was playing coon on release. Who has been playing sigma since release? The biggest problem is we all looked at what Fchamp was doing and didn’t really look outside of that.

That’s kinda the point. I was trying to say that him listing Sigma wasn’t really worth looking at. Not even gonna refer to that list since that’s just his opinion and don’t agree with it at all. Early on I try to make more of my own observations than purely follow who is playing a character. You can only get so much if you’re just waiting to look at other players and hear their opinion. Even from playing a few of the Sigmas I’ve met online I’ve probably inferred more about the character than a lot of people. Just need more people working on him.

The DLC characters came out like a week ago so they’re gonna need time even if one of them is Dante good. Took time for Coon and even Jedah really to come around. Will take time for anyone else with potential.

Sigma is too honest to be in the world of Dante, Zero, Gamora, Dorm etc.

That said, I’d consider him in the same tier (high) as Thanos. Good damage, big normals, armoured moves, corner carry combos, beast voice acting lol.

Now, if he had a grounded overhead…

Ah I got ya now. I thought you were defending what he was saying. Yeah people are coming up with more stuff so it will be interesting to see the developments. Even Morrigan is starting to look better eith the things people are coming out with her.

Morrigan is really good with a good tag partner. She’s not really top tier on her own, but with the right partner she’s like a rushdown character that provides decent support to a team. She has one of the best invincible level 1 supers that blows through a lot of the other moves in the game. I believe the super might not even count as a projectile because I’ve seen it blow through projectile invincible stuff like Hyper Charging Star.

Astral Vision is still very strong despite not being OD oppressive like before as it lasts much longer now and it makes harmonizing spear take up a lot more space on the screen. A fireball that comes at you from behind is still very strong as you can’t zone a fireball that’s hitting you in the back. Super jump astral vision downwards fireballs still take up a lot of space and with tags can set up rushdown. She can still build meter during it as well which is really good for how long it lasts.

In a weird point in my game where I’m good at neutral with my characters and seem to outplay mad people solo. I just make some terrible decisions switching or some shit. Actually I know what it is, more tag + functions needed. So much to this game, and screw you DLC specialists making me learn matches from ground zero.

Monster Hunter can be scary AF, and invincible level 1s are serious game changers. There’s wonky shit in this game I’m still getting used to. It’s like a patch at this point will change so much not sure if I want one lol

Still getting used to passing through entire characters lower bodies, there’s some small assed jumping hurtboxes in this. Either that or umvc3 just had stupid huge hitboxes.

Thinking about Sigma, there’s probably entirely different top tiers depending on whether the situation is 2v2, 2v1, 1v2, or 1v1.

He isn’t the best character to make a 1v2 comeback with for sure, but he’s definitely a 2v1 monster. Makes it tough to talk about absolute tiers because people are probably prioritizing different circumstances.

Sigma is overrated

I think this could change the current idea of the meta if it’s as simple as pushblocking and taping down to totally negate lockdown super into tag… makes the super a waste of meter if you can’t get the hit

I’ve been doing this, thought I was just good LOL, I was more worries about the cross up/high/low/mid right at the end.

Oh lord are we gonna have the “what makes someone top tier god tier” debate again?

But is is worth an entire super to get just one chance at the mixup? Lockdown was good cause you got multiple chances at mixups but bc of this pushblock/autoguard it boils down to one

Exactly
