MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

Just realized something about the stones that could affect team making.

It’s popular right now to have a setup character (support) and a mixup character behind them. It’s not very smart to have 2 setup characters or 2 mixup characters… but I realise now that the stones are kinda there to allow these kinds of teams to be playable… maybe even be great:

2 mixup characters without great neutral = use reality. Reality pumps up neutral for every character, so a team with bad neutral, or just neutral that isn’t dominant, can probably use reality to shore up their weaknesses. Think something like spidey/Chun

2 support characters that don’t have great mixup… say ghost rider and megaman = mind stone. You get a command grab and people will be constantly approaching via the air so it sets up your AA command grab as well. Now you have mixup on the ground and a good damaging AA as well. You also get an unblockable setup in ground surge xx tag> air surge.

Instead of mindstone you can use time. Good mixups from tag into time, and if you have an overhead which a lot of bad mixup characters have, you have some decent mixups with stuff like overhead into tag and then time surge through them. An overhead and a crossup.

2 characters that are crazy meter reliant will also work well with mindstone, which is obvious, but it makes teams like Arthur/strider or Arthur/firebrand much more workable.

Soul stone could be for use with low hp teams.

Powerstone I’m still trying to figure out what it could be good for team wise. Maybe characters that have a hard time converting or something. Strange with powerstone seems like it might be a good look. Teleport into stone. Any character that passes through the opponent might be really good with powerstone if it an activate as soon as the opponent is crossed up. Might be good for fast boxdash characters when upclose… boxdash crossup powerstone surge.

Space… teams with no reversal. But it doesn’t work in the corner very well which makes using it for that purpose alone less attractive.

Anyway it goes, using mind and time stone for teams without great mixup could be very good. And using reality for teams with shit neutral could also be very good.

A strider with a command grab is a scary thought, as is strange with his port in at anytime. Hell, strider/strange seems like it might be decent with a mindstone. Both characters toolsets are made to use teleports and both characters can projectile into tag xx port for free mixups from basically anywhere on screen. Combine that with an AA command grab for strange and mixup command grab for both characters and you might have a top tier team that can ourobouros all day and call out stranges super all day as well and tag into strider port… hmmm… interesting.

I’m really liking this mindstone AA idea for keepaway teams. Will need to experiment with that.

Mind is also a great keep away Stone because you can confirm a super into tag. See Gimlet and Goddess Bracelet.

I have a theory about Power: since this game is pretty liberal with whiff cancels, you can throw out a long button like Ghost Rider’s st.HP or Chris’ st.HK, then punish the obvious jump xx air dash forward with Power Surge. It also gives seemingly everyone a solid A2A conversion, particularly the more mobile characters.

Power is the perfect scramble character stone, IE anyone who has shit that zips past the opponent in the air as that shit auto corrects.
Play a Spiderman with a half way decent fuck you game and you’ll understand. I don’t even think they know what side that shit is going to auto correct too.

Yep, and it’s also good for characters with weak air-to-air confirms. I like it on Hulk for that reason. Spidey/Hulk has been synergizing a lot better than I thought it would. I can see myself maining this team for a good while.

Strider isn’t as good because he lacks fast durability to throw out. Satellite and the tiger are somewhat slow, though good in other ways, aren’t comparable to Zero’s zoning capabilities. He has other strengths and think he’s very good.

But not as good as Dante, Zero, Gamora.

isn’t as good as top tier. but he’s better than he was in 3. I think he’s upper mid. top 10

I think it’s a bit overstated to have to install or top-tier super moves for Mind to be good. Level 3 Supers for invincibility and counter tags are universally good, and I can’t think of a character that has all unusable super moves.

I think Soul is being misused when people try to do Zato-style pressure with the Storm (double install gamora/strider). I think it should be more just have one character spam beam attacks or whatever, and the other applies the pressure. You can probably lock the opponent down for the entirely of the Storm. Also it’s a lot safer, since the Storm means you lack a tag to make your moves safe.

Is there a reason everyone here is rating Zero/Gamora over Ultron/Dormammu? Zero I can sort of see, but what does Gamora have on them?

Special move projectile that beats supers.

Two guns that blow up 90 percent of what the other person is trying to do.

I don’t know if I’d rate her above Dorm or Ultron, but she’s pretty good.
Just based on her regular tools, she’s probably just below Strider. Add in the weird properties of her guns and that bumps her up a bit.
She might fall off later in the game’s life, but at this point it’s really powerful to basically ignore the other person’s projectiles.

Zero is better than him because of Buster, better normals, Space + Sougenmu + Lightning loops, better normals, invincible and safe shoryuken which is retarded and Invincible Reversal Super.

Dante = Overhead mixup game, excellent synergy with almost all the cast, healing, better toolset with Tempest and Guns.

Gamora = She is the female Zero like I call her. Her guns are really good, decent Invincibility Level 1, Sougenmu Install for damage, extremely fast, great normals, Godslayer swipes pack decent damage, great synergy with most of the cast like Dante.

Sigma = Insane Damage, normals, specials, synergy and supers. Sigma is CHEAP!!!

Strider also can’t compete well with Jedah. I think of the Top Tiers, he can fight Ultron well but the others are a little better than him.

They are all Top Tier.

Orders of the Tops is whatever but the Tops are Dante, Dormammu, Gamora, Jedah, Sigma, Ultron and Zero ATM.

Isn’t Captain Marvel up there too? I know she’s passed up for being a bit harder to play than Ultron, but she has some pretty damn good options.

I wish Gamora’s guns were easier to reflect.

I like that she has that way in at anytime a la Zero’s pizza cutter and shenanigans.

People just gonna let him claim sigma os top tier and not question it?

Well Sigma is good at the minimum. Has easy ass combos with specials that create super long hit stuns inbetween. Like an aerial version of the Doom foot dive stuff where you have to be asleep to drop the combo. With an air dash, sword normals and a lock down super

Yes but he cant do jackshit to ultron dashing all around him or zero pressuring him. Plus you can actually easy punish Sigma during a combo if he cant tag out. You tag when he use a dash during a combo and you have all the time in the universe to H his ass and fullcombo him.

Yeah but is he top 7? Idk about that one. When someone gets in on him its a problem. Im not sure if his lockdown or neutral is as strong as some of the best characters in the game.
