Just realized something about the stones that could affect team making.
It’s popular right now to have a setup character (support) and a mixup character behind them. It’s not very smart to have 2 setup characters or 2 mixup characters… but I realise now that the stones are kinda there to allow these kinds of teams to be playable… maybe even be great:
2 mixup characters without great neutral = use reality. Reality pumps up neutral for every character, so a team with bad neutral, or just neutral that isn’t dominant, can probably use reality to shore up their weaknesses. Think something like spidey/Chun
2 support characters that don’t have great mixup… say ghost rider and megaman = mind stone. You get a command grab and people will be constantly approaching via the air so it sets up your AA command grab as well. Now you have mixup on the ground and a good damaging AA as well. You also get an unblockable setup in ground surge xx tag> air surge.
Instead of mindstone you can use time. Good mixups from tag into time, and if you have an overhead which a lot of bad mixup characters have, you have some decent mixups with stuff like overhead into tag and then time surge through them. An overhead and a crossup.
2 characters that are crazy meter reliant will also work well with mindstone, which is obvious, but it makes teams like Arthur/strider or Arthur/firebrand much more workable.
Soul stone could be for use with low hp teams.
Powerstone I’m still trying to figure out what it could be good for team wise. Maybe characters that have a hard time converting or something. Strange with powerstone seems like it might be a good look. Teleport into stone. Any character that passes through the opponent might be really good with powerstone if it an activate as soon as the opponent is crossed up. Might be good for fast boxdash characters when upclose… boxdash crossup powerstone surge.
Space… teams with no reversal. But it doesn’t work in the corner very well which makes using it for that purpose alone less attractive.
Anyway it goes, using mind and time stone for teams without great mixup could be very good. And using reality for teams with shit neutral could also be very good.
A strider with a command grab is a scary thought, as is strange with his port in at anytime. Hell, strider/strange seems like it might be decent with a mindstone. Both characters toolsets are made to use teleports and both characters can projectile into tag xx port for free mixups from basically anywhere on screen. Combine that with an AA command grab for strange and mixup command grab for both characters and you might have a top tier team that can ourobouros all day and call out stranges super all day as well and tag into strider port… hmmm… interesting.
I’m really liking this mindstone AA idea for keepaway teams. Will need to experiment with that.
