MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

Firebrand has great offense, but his hitboxes and lack of defensive tools mean he could potentially have to work hard against some of the top tier characters. Unless he gets some unblockable tech that only he can use, Firebrand will pretty much live in Zero’s shadow.

Yeah his hitboxes seem to be his weakest aspect, but I’m theory fighting that his LK dp and LP dp make up for that a bit and give him some priority in the neutral. Don’t know how safe on block either are but they don’t look like easy punishes.

I’m not completely sure how safe LK Demon Missile is on block. Pretty sure it’s safer than last game since it doesn’t put him into flight autoatically.

LP Missile, though, got super buffed. @Kresent put up on Twitter the other day that you can alter its recovery into his different dive moves by holding different buttons. The fact that you can do this in the air is also super tricky.

  • pushing nothing makes you bounce off slightly and go into auto-flight. This is the default and is very bad.
  • LP makes you go straight up (grounded) or down (aerial)
  • HP sends you forward
  • HK sends you backward
  • LK puts you immediately into flight with no bounce

Basically, you get to choose how you recover and all of them except default and LK offer some degree of safety.
I love Firebrand so much.

Firebrand is the best character nobody will play because he’s firebrand and he just isn’t Popular, his tornado is legit a too teir move alone, good mobility and mixups

Have you never played Remake as Chris? Be glad you don’t need to look for rounds to reload it.

Firebrands biggest weakness is rapid fire jabs and Ultron. Personally I love playing the prick. People aren’t to familiar with punishes atm, he confirms great into rocket shenanigans, pushblock can be beat with flight options. I’ve got some new tech with BP I’m testing with him too for dirty ass hard to blockables.

So Nova lost his controllable fly super and they gave it to BP with homing properties instead?

…okay so maybe I was a bit premature to lose faith in BP

Yall always sleeping.

Firebrand doesn’t seem too bad. Has capture state shit which automatically makes you decent in this game

What are the properties on stranges glyphs/for? I saw a few combos from RDK and it seem like no matter what that shit put you in a free fall hard knockdown state? I wanna know if you can abuse it to squeeze damage out late in combos

I still think mindstone is being slept on pretty hard by you

The ground command grab can be canceled into and is the speed of an overhead with the range of an overhead, sets up completely unseeable 50/50’s and the air command grab destroys up close chicken blocking.

It’s only theory but I think mindstone might be one of firebrands best because of his ability to set it up and his ability to use easy 50/50 resets with it or just use it as a way to get meter for his stuff.

Also, mindstone will be a stone that allows counter switching as well as using your meter for enders. Right now a team that uses counter switches has its damage hampered, but mindstone will have no such flaw and allow both counter switching which will increase the teams resilience, while also allowing the team to end combos with hypers. Lockdown hypers are also more of a thing when mindstone is in play.

I mean, I don’t think Mind Stone is terrible for Firebrand, but I think Space is easily his best stone.

Though honestly, everything except Power works pretty well for him.

Can you explain exactly why capture state is so important? Is it because you can tag the other person in for a mix up and to charge reality storm?

That, and because capture state gets around system limitations designed to limit combos based on hitstun.

I noticed today that the ice effect from Reality Stone causes a restand. Perhaps Hawkeye could do something with that for his ice arrows? Does anyone else have an ice move?

I just picked up Strider and he’s fun to use. What tier does he fall in?

My main complaint is his damage output, i don’t understand why they made his damage almost ass; it’s like they don’t want him to be picked as much as Zero or Dante, i don’t get why especially when he was one of the most beloved capcom characters in MVC before.

I posted some anti reality stone spam in a thread here. If you have problems playing against reality stone or know people that do, send em there.

striders damage isn’t ass. maybe the combos you’re choosing are. it’s not outrageous but walking gram combos can net 6k plus from full screen.

His damage doesn’t seem too bad from what I see. Like Coon it seems adequate especially for a character that can potentially have near Coon levels of support and setplay for some characters. Gram is really stupid now because it basically sets up solo 4 to 5,000 damage from full screen if you get hit by it. With an entirety to use formation to pick up after the HKD.
