Speaking of Iron Man. I think he is secret top tier. Photon cannon hyper is fucking amazing. If it hits you can convert easily, if they block it you get mixuos covered by the beam. He has a really good beam and I feel like he may become the king of capitalizing off air confirms. Of course no one has really played him other than Chris G but I feel like he is being slept on HARD!!!
Agreed. The invincibility and free Lv.3 alone is still a bonus while gaining a max refill of all your stocks. Potentially you could have 12 or more stocks per round, two mind activations and 4 stocks you build up between your selves, that’s a shit ton of meter. Mind stone in the air is still quite quick, not as fast as space stone but still useful for building infinity meter when the opportunity is there.
But I have some ideas for mind surge I’m still yet to mess with, basically involving mixups and chicken guarding, but I have yet to mess with it in a match. Long story short trap teams could benefit from Mind as well, think of team Duc and using Mind as they try and push block escape the trap. Dormammu lays down thorns, player tries to jump out, MIND STONE! Stunned, spell spell spell, combo, rose garden, etc, salt.
I use both of them and I can tell you there is almost nothing IM does tha ultron can’t do better…but since I’m bored I’ll list some for you:
Ultron has:
A better box jump
A faster tri jump
H beam and L beam both cover more area
Has an aerial hyper combo for easier conversions especially off of a tag.
His super doesn’t have crazy startup time
Has a command grab
That command grab is invincible (IM only invincible move is his level 3)
A safe blockstring that doesn’t wiff on pushblock
Multi hit lockdown move
Drone helpers
Parabolic projectile from super jump height
Ironman has:
The more durable beam
His dash turns into a run and goes full screen
A shitty special that does good damage that he can cancel into his super
Smart mines? Them shits is wack.
A longer range level 3 (this is actually good)
A lower orbiting flight activation
All the shit ultron has is way more powerful than the shit IM has.
Ultrons combos are easier as well.
He’s basically what ironman should have been.
Beam super is good, but it’s ground only and much longer start up than the other beam supers. Other characters can do all of their flight movement shit and then still beam you from the air which is a big plus in comparison.
I think the one big thing going for Iron Man over the other flight characters that he definitely has the best flight movement of all of those characters. Optimized with the jab canceling nobody else moves cleaner than he does in the air. I’m sure he’ll have some optimized air to air combos, but right now like with Marvel 3 it’s easier to just find the derpiest thing you have that causes a ground bounce or capture state in the air and convert from the ground. Luckily Iron Man has this too in his repulsor ray that he can just fish for, see land and then dash over and start combo.
I think a lot of the better air dasher characters have a good ADDF or ADF button that crosses up. Nova and Ultron both have derpy air normals they can just throw that will cross up and overhead at the same time. Morrigan also has this with her j.HP that she can just swing out their in a lockdown or in a neutral to get cross ups. Iron Man doesn’t seem to have anything like that and is more limited to high/lows unless you get close enough to dash cross low.
Overall though he’s definitely more solid than he was in 3 and I think his specific tools will work well with other characters. He actually has tools that are good at protecting him from getting hit in this game. Which is what they’ve been trying to make him since 3, a defensive 8 way dasher.
Of all the mind gem users, how can you forget Strider?
IMO, it’s his best gem. He gets Ouroboros around the clock and a free level 3.
Hawkeye is good with mind gem but reality and soul is better. Reality gem actually makes him usable since he doesn’t get rushed down for free and he has the tools to counter reality gem.
You can land the mind stone throw in the middle of Ouroboros.
Hiryu with Mind Storm up and Ouroboros means you can get in for free without a care in the world with some blockstun as a bonus and tag your other character for a free mix up. Normally losing orbs as a tag would be annoying, but you can just bring him back and pop it again. Do this over and over again and still end with full bar stocked.
What are the benefits of Oro in this game? It used to be striders entire strategy would be based on getting it up and just taking control of the match. I rarely see people use it now
Lockdown, pretty much. Chip has been massively scaled back, and there’s no level 3 crack factor to drastically boost his damage, unless Power Stone combos still work during Oro. It’s good for landing hits, but the scaling from all the hits butchers your damage output.
I’ve seen Cl0ck’s Strider/Gamora/Soul team though. Having Oro and Shadow up at once is pretty powerful.
Tempo advantage from anywhere, opponent pretty much has to just deal with it. Strider gets to wail on you till he gets a hit, then tag into his homie to finish the combo. It’s a legit pressure extender in that you can tag in strider, activate ourobouros and take away your opponents turn, then tag in your opponent behind a dog or someshit as the ourobouros is ending and still get pressure, then tag strider back in and do it again.
Strider also has a couple of great tools for extending pressure outside of his ourobouros in his dog on the ground and his fireball on the ground which both allow strider to attack after activating them.
Then combine those pressure extenders with tag and you have a character with stifling pressure.
I’m actually thinking about teaming strider with hulk so I can use the cheesy hulk shit into reality plus strider into ourobouros back into hulk into gamma derp into reality into strider and keep doing that.
Combos were a glitch in SF2. So was strafe jumping in Quake. Both became staples of the gameplay of those titles.
As long as it’s a general mechanics (something that all or most characters have), it makes sense asking if you want it to become an accepted game mechanics or remove it as a glitch.
You can tag to your partner once the combo starts… so not really something you want to get hit by. If your confirmation is on point you can do upwards of 4K damage without a super ender.
I mean I guess that is ok but I am seeing videos of people getting 6000k without bar. I need damage to be higher. I guess that will be the theme of him. Get bar, use oro, tag out, and just do combos in to strider reset with oro. Meter user that can work well as a point character.
