MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

That’s interesting because a lot of super tag in combos that people are doing now (especially Chris G’s Jedah/Tony) are ones where you tag in the character right after the super hits and start wailing on them to up the damage and build meter during the super. Wonder if that will stay reliable with this red health thing.

Spencer is a true hybrid, a mobile zoner/grappler who isn’t amazing at anything.

Thanos really isn’t a grappler by archetype, despite being a slow big body with a command grab. I would actually call him a counter zoner- in the sense that most of his tools are specifically for negating projectile neutral. The command grabs are really just there to have some way to open up opponents who are not putting themselves into recovery frames on the other side of the screen.

Spencer is a hybrid of a few things, but he’s ultimately an aggressive/rush character or generally he has to be near the opponent in order to win. Thanos only has one grounded command grab so it’s hard to say that he’s really a grappler in the way that Haggar or Thor are. He’s like an easier to play Strange that focuses more on counter zoning than long term zoning and has better pressure/mobility.

Been trying out the theory about tag supers. So far I’ve blocked lots of shit that would have hit me out of the super had I not tagged, definitely seems to have merit.

I dunno fam, Coon while perfectly capable of zoning can mix people the fuck up. I’ve been rushing down fools lol, headbut dash into nade is top tier air to air. Firebrand, I’m skeptical on his support value. It’s there, but everyones is there. Tornado while I make it work definitely doesn’t have utility that it seems like it should have. On my team he serves the same purpose as Jedah on sonics team, after getting bolder with my movements I’m starting to find some pretty stupid pressure tactics with him. Rockets blaster + tag into firebrand puts me immediately in the opponents face and driving them into the corner is cake. Fly H+tag is a really dumb switch mixup. I’d call firebrand an all around character but I’d also say the same for Coon.

Grappler is a wierd category imo, yeah they have command throws but seriously their games don’t exist around them except maybe Haggar. Shit I’d practically say Thanos teleport/projectile gives him
more utility. Just Big Bodies, big as shit, hit hard, likely have armor moves, and probably have a command grab.

I still don’t get why people say they don’t get matches on PC. I was playing before work today at 7:00 AM. Granted I’m in NyC but shiiiet. I can’t seem to NOT get a match.
I’m liking the game the more I play which kind of sucks as I have mad deadlines nowadays. Still doing some stupid tags, with 2 low health characters it’s not a good thing. The good news is solo comebacks with Coon + Space Stone are a little more doable because his traps, guns, and groot can keep people honest. I WISH they kept his teleport that goes behind people. As is it’s only good for combos, it would be nice to have an easy out from beam super spam. Reality Stone is almost a non factor to me in neutral now and after learning to push block Gammoras Guns properly I’m getting more rage quits. I’m starting to feel like semi competent at this game. What I need is an offline training partner in Brooklyn…who likes greenery.

I am personally quickly becoming more and more fond of Ghost Rider. Dude can actually zone since his zoning tools are normals/specials that can’t be reflected. And he’s very good at getting your tag partner in there. He seems to be the kind of character that can go with just about anyone. His H,H cancels nicely into tag on block or hit. And you can fiddle around with the combos to bring in your partner for tag combos off just about any special he hits mid combo. Great character in my opinion.

I don’t know how Strange worked in Ultimate so I might be repeating old news here, but the way he works in Infinite is very interesting.

He essentially has a fast spawn of his spells that only requires one directional input and then repeated single press inputs to continue putting spells on screen. He has two, red and orange, but he also has four formations corresponding to each attack button both punch and kick.

So for example if you do qcb+lp, lp, lp he will have placed three red spells on screen, however there’s an additional step and that’s the formations. So if you press qcb+hp, lp, hp > you then have a follow up button to place the spells in different places, one is in the centre of the screen, one surrounds the opponent, one lines the floor, the other I can’t remember.

But this is only the prep work. If you treat Strange like Ultron/Dormammu you would use a point character to create time for Strange to setup, you would then return to neutral or oki. But then afterwards now you’ve provided Strange’s partner with three environmental spells that Strange can activate with qcb+lp and then AS immediately into his partner. So now when Ultron comes in he now has Strange’s projectiles on screen covering him giving him more freedom, and more setup/combo potential.

The formations might develop to the point where it forces players to react in a certain way, so even just the threat of them might be scary. But Strange doesn’t feel as flexible as he did before, he feels more heavy and slightly slower movement wise, so that might be a compromise, but he’s a character I’m going to work on, his spells were never appreciated in Ultimate so now this gives them a really good purpose and a system which they can be used to their full potential.

The main problem I’ve had with strange so far is the obvious. People want to rush that shit down as soon as he’s on screen. With Strange Coon I can immediately give him space which is dope, and frankly all his specials have good holding for a mixup and teleport switch is so easy it’s almost insulting. Not completely sold on solo strange yet, I’m going to start leaving him in too long just to see how I can deal with pressure. (My win loss ratio is kind of dumb as I do this shit to often but really I don’t give a shit about my ranking)

Opinions on Hawkeye/Chris/Rocket spamming projectile normals into Soul Surge?

Nice tactic, but not smothering enough. Oh and time stone pisses me off. Invalidates a lot of hard earned lockdown, need to find anti time stone lockdown tech.

Time stone looks better and better. Gives certain characters left/rights that they wouldn’t have without it… and when those characters already have good high/low mixup… shiiiiiiit son. Morrigan is scary to be around when she has time stone and a spear held. You get close to her she lets go of the spear and surges through you for the crossup into tag into bye bye health.

Can’t test it right now so I can’t figure out the frame data on it, but I’m about to go to bed and want to get it down before I forget it. This mixup if it works will apply for much of the cast so it deserves to be here:

St.hp xx timestone surge> Tag> immediate strike/grab mixup with a grappler or immediate low/airdash with Jedah/morrigan.

Time stone moves your character forward, I’m thinking even on pushblock, so if that’s true this is a good way to get point blank for mixups through your opponents pushblock. Probably obvious to some, but morrigan doesn’t have a quick low threat until after her dash jump attack which can be pushblocked, but if I timestone in off a hit with decent blockstun I might have the frames to go for what should be a near unseeable high/low mixup.

Will have to test to see if timestone gets through pushblock tomorrow.

Will delete this tomorrow if it doesn’t work.

Jibbo was playing chris/rocket. He had some cool shit. He was still learning but he had trouble covering the vertical space.

I think you pretty much have to play reality stone to play Chris. He has to have that vertical space covered since he doesn’t have the pressure or mobility of someone like Gamora to make up for not being able to point shit up.

Fought a Chris/Rocket team yesterday, felt like I was in a warzone with the amount of mines/grenades/gunfire on the screen.

I always felt that Chris is whack in this game and I paid for it with a million bullets to the face, still think he’s weak though lol

I caught a little of him playing on stream yesterday. Using Soul struck me as odd with that team. All those landmines, you’d think Space was a gimme.

I see you’re enjoying Champo’s stuff.

On a related note, I’ve been labbing out some of the stuff you’ve posted and I can say that Time Ultron looks hella scary. Basically turns any drone call into a left right mixup for both Ultron and his partner.

I still am yet to fight him. I hope winter soldier is sick tho

Played against a Hulk today. Firebrands swoop traded with his Gamma Charge…L…O…L…

Literally any other stone lol. Reality to cover weak spots. Time stone to be annoying run away with projectiles. Mind to help fuel chris’ level 3 cause is kind of ridiculous and space as you mentioned.

Maybe he had some cool ideas he is working on. I could see some nasty setups with both of them on the field at the same time.
