MvC3: Two Girls one Corpse: The Hsien-Ko Thread!

I don’t think they’ll use a patch for rebalancing (other that the Sentinel thing that was already planned apparently), it’ll just be for fixing glitches and such :frowning:

That what Hyper MvC3 is gonna be for!

:frowning:

Then Hyper MvC3 Arcade Edition

Seriously though, don’t see it happening :stuck_out_tongue:

“This is not fair!”

I think patches will most likely only be used for glitches and infinites and the like. Capcom seems to be taking a very hands-off approach with this game, which I can agree with on some aspects and not others. But it’s still too early to tell, and maybe after EVO some balance stuff might pop up. The game’s not really that imbalanced as it is, it’s just that there’s a somewhat big gulf between our girl, Haggar, Thor, Spidey, some others, and the rest.

Won’t stop me from playing Lei Lei though flies away

I always use Hsien-ko on point. I have never really had issues with rush down characters, I used AG for spacing as well as Standing heavy (which actually works pretty well). Her standing heavy is also good for faking out opponents, I wait until the blade is has almost retreated and then follow with crouching heavy, or light henkyoki if they block that. Spamming gongs and weapon toss helps in conjunction with forward heavy.

I gotta say though, I need to try out some of those combos in the video to help out her damage. I already have mastered that corner combo with Senpu Bu. Learning those would make people think twice about approaching her.

I have never really used her assist that often, but man is it GOOD! Although in a team with sentinel and dante it would almost be unfair.

Its strange though, she can do all that damage in combos without a lvl 3! Not that I’m complaining. =)

I occasionally run Doom with my standard of Hsien-Ko / Tron. Now if I were a better player (and a much better Doom player), I’m sure it would be assist hell for the opponent. But I like pairing them up with Shuma better.

And I need to practice some of those corner combos.

SOMEone hasn’t hear the latest Lupinko rumblings…

As long as a SMvC3 means well-deserved Hsien-Ko buffs, I’m sold. And of course everything else.

Sorry, world.

Hmm~ had a gander, it’s the tiniest of tiny hints but isn’t it too soon for them to be considering it? How long was there between SF4 and SSF4? over a year, no?

There’s still a few characters I’d love to see though I doubt they’ll get in anyways. I’d rather new cast be introduced as DLC but if they’re going to add stuff like replay mode etc. then sure. VS games aren’t known for title updates though, right?

Doesn’t mean they can’t start now!

The gap between SF4 and SSF4 was a year and a couple months. Non-fighting game wise, the gap between L4D and L4D2 was exactly one year, and the first game was arguably a “polished beta” like people say MvC3 is, and no one really complained about that.

As for DLC characters, my hope would be for Donovan, even though I’ve only played him about three times, simply because I think he’d fit gameplay-wise. Him, or Lord Raptor to see the Hsien-Ko drama, though I guess Shuma fills that spot.

Honestly, I’m fine with a SMvC3 because I don’t buy games willy-nilly, so the extra money lost isn’t too bad (especially with trading in the original). The only thing I’d be pissed with would be Lei Lei getting the Makoto treatment again, but that’s doubtful. Still, a whole year?

But we digress. Anyone discover anything new worth talking about?

can someone copy and paste lupinko’s words? or give me a link?

also can someone make a legit & non bias list of lei lei’s pro’s and con’s

Not sure you can compare L4D with SF4 and MvC3 shrug People did complain but was mostly about the change of characters :stuck_out_tongue:

As for new characters from Capcom I’d love to see Sakura (SFA) and Nero (DMC) and perhaps Karin (SFA). I have no real preference for Marvel, lots of people want Cable back but I’d rather see some new characters methinks.

If it is going to happen it’s too far off to worry about ATM. I’ll still be enjoying this and possibly MK9 before it comes out.

First one is a hint, second doesn’t seem like much of anything and third’s twitter link is in Japanese something about Capcom with the intention to upgrade Marvel.

I have no idea how reliable this guy is but apparently he leaked the roster beforehand shrug

It could always just be a giant patch that costs money, ala SSF4 (though that did have a disc release) and BB: CS2. But whatever. If it’s a year, it truly is too far off to worry about.

As for a pro/con list, it’s kind of hard to portray her as balanced, and someone else with more experience can probably make a better one, but here’re the basics:

Pros:
? Good range on her normals. :f::m: can stuff charging opponents on the ground and :f::h: can both hit opponents in the air and extend combos (especially Gong Loops).
? Henkyo Ki (Gong) can reflect some projectiles and allows you to pressure the opponent a bit, or at least make them think twice about blindly rushing in. Can be Tiger Knee’d for some quick defense. Can be used for a corner loop.
? Anki Hou (Item Toss) can occasionally stun and provides some decent mixup options, especially with the :h: version
? Senpuu Bu (Pendulum) allows Hsien-Ko to travel across the screen, cross up, pressure in the corner, and approach
? Air Dash allows for overheads and a better method for starting combos than a plain ground approach
? Forward Dash is a teleport and can be plinked for quicker recovery
? Tenrai Ha hyper hits overhead at startup and OTG when the anvil lands. Good for ending air combos after an S.
? Chireitou hits OTG and is good for finishing combos mid-screen.
? Houten Geki (blender command grab) can be kara’d into from a good range by using :f::h: (still need the video on this b/c I haven’t tried it). Can also cancel into Tenrai Ha.
? Normal ground throws can be combo’d afterward as the opponent is falling.
? Rimoukon (Dark Force) gives her hyper armor which can allow her to approach easier. Is retained after she switches out, allowing you to abuse her Pendulum assist for great justice.
? Cute corpse!

Cons:
? Slow ground speed and airdash speed makes her somewhat predictable and easily shut down
? Low health (900k)
? Low damage
? Low range on Launcher forces you to set it up with :d::h:
? High hitstun deterioration cuts many of her combos short
? Rimoukon only lasts 5 seconds
? Anki Hou’s stun item can’t be predicted like in VSav
? Gong can be a little finicky sometimes
? OPINION ALERT: Needs a new voice actor. Why is she so buttery and sugary in this game when she was both cute and snippy in her home series (though I guess Pocket Fighter kind of went down this route)? I’ve come to tolerate it, though.

So it seems like ? as we’ve all noticed ? she has the potential to be a solid character, but it looks like Capcom half-assed her execution. She doesn’t have a huge list of weaknesses, but the ones I bolded are what make her underwhelming. But there’s always hope!

As a random aside, would it randomize her gameplay too much if some of her items had different effects like Faust, or would it help her out?

Her number one problem is that she does no damage in a game where tons of characters can more or less kill with one combo. It’s fairly difficult to open somebody up with Lei-Lei, but not impossible. However, when you DO open them up, the reward is minimal. They lose about 40% of their life, or maybe 50-60% if you hit a sick corner combo. What this means is, you have to work much harder than your opponent. For the three (average in my experience) mistakes your opponent has to make, you get one or two. Of course, this is assuming your opponent doesn’t just tag or DHC out their character to get their life back.

When you combine her difficulty of use with her low damage you get a not very scary character.

This is probably common knowledge but I only just realised it, the first hit of Tenraiha causes ground bounce. I suppose the purpose of this is to stop you from doing two or more in a row but it means can’t combo into it (at least the majority of it) if you do a ground bounce aerial exchange. Pretty big herp derp on my behalf to have only just realised that

In the corner you can squeeze out a bit more damage after Tenraiha with Cheireitou (3 blades hit) then catch them with a c.HS sj. HS, probably only worth the meter to finish off a character and quite possibly is character specific.

You’ll have to teleport behind them after landing, correct? That’s the easiest way, anyway, and how it’s shown in the combo videos.

Anyone watch Monday’s stream? Intehweeds uses H-Ko on point for a while and has some success:

Justin.tv - Option-Select.com’s stream - Option-Select.com’s SSF4 and MvC3 Stream

I will say that he didn’t capitalize on those two stuns he got during the match where he timed out with Storm. I don’t think there was much he could do with the second one,but he reacted too late with the first and ended up attacking Storm while she recovered from the stun and blocked. maybe a plink teleport would’ve helped?

Yeah that’d be better though a little harder, teleport into the corner before Tenraiha. Completely slipped my mind

So I’m going to guess I’m not the only guy who watched the most recent WNF. Two guys repping our dead ghoulie in different styles. One’s being flexible and the other man opening some meat up! LLND’s got a history of starting good shit in CvS2 and TvC, and it’ll be interesting to see what he’ll produce if LeiLei stays in the line-up. Strong zoning and usage of the pendulum to stay on Andy. It also furthers the idea of keeping her as your second slot instead of opening up the match with her on point.

Also got a tournament at a convention this coming weekend, so hopefully I can get some videos in. D:

More like, FNF ololo

(Yeah, I know they were having technical difficulties.)

No, I haven’t yet, but I’ll check it out when I’m less busy. Sounds like good stuff!

And yes, please record if you can!
