MvC3 Tournament and Stream commentary thread

Hsien-Ko has a better assist than the entire bottom tier, and she can be used for the DHC Glitch effectively.

We should probably move the theory-fighter to the strategy thread, since we’re getting away from tourney discussion now…

Hsien Ko has a really solid assist and uhh… hmm… a bizarre, impractical infinite… slightly easier time opening people up than some of the lower levels though, and some neat gimmicks with gong and pendulum.

Someone said there was a good Hsein-Ko player in pools that had her on point.

I don’t think she is bad per say, just extraordinarily awkward to play. She seems to have some very good keep-away and runaway tools.

Rayan Hunter plays her and she isn’t bad.

She is extremely free to teleport chars. Zero, Wesker and Dante. So if you do put her on your team, keep that in mind.

So I do know what the hell Im talking about, good to know.

Hsien-Ko is good at harassing most opponents to death with gong shockwaves and excellent normals. Pendulum swings and her air dashes are good for mix-ups when used in tandem with complimentary assists. Like I said in the Hsien-Ko thread, I believe she makes a decent point character early in the game but a terrible anchor due to her poor maneuverability and the fact that XF3 isn’t really threatening at all with her.

Joe has a 600k+ possible BnB with 1 meter. That’s pretty damn good.

edit: Final Round further proof Sentinel is overrated, btw.

This… I mean sure if he could kill you with ABCE he’d be better, but damage is almost a nonissue when comparing characters, and certainly not tier defining.

Yeah, Marn was basically using him for the assist and neither Justin Wong or Combofiend had Sentinel at all. I think Sentinel can get you far in a tourney but it might be hard to win because there’s lots of anti-Sentinel technology.

He can get you far in a tourny because he’s a scrub killer. Sent and his hyper armor eats up mediocre players. That’s why a lot of mediocre players play Sent themselves, gives them better results against their fellow-mediocre-players competition. (And yes, I consider me and 99% of the people on this board mediocre players, the 1% being people like Sanford or Sabin who post once a year.) Once you get to the top of the top, though, Sent has no chance. If anyone ever wants to beat Justin or Combofied, they need to understand Sent is more of a liability than an asset against them. Sent’s popularity will slowly die. Some stubborn/uncreative/short-sighted players (I swear I’ve said this before) will keep sticking with him, and in the meantime the general masses will keep playing him 'cause he’s effective against XBL competition and their local scene buddies, but in the end he’s really not that good.

Just me, or a lot less of XF3?
Sure for Phoenix teams, but otherwise, players popping the XFC1 much more often to kill 1-2 characters was the norm at high level.
XF2 was almost always used it seemed to recover health for an ailing 2nd point and to recover 3rd assist.

I’m probably saying “obvious data is obvious”, but players confidently doing so and profiting made me ignore XF3 Sent… XF3 Sent comes in… people run/lame it out, then get rid of him. Unlike what we saw a few weeks ago when XF3 Sent meant a 50/50 chance at losing the match.

I noticed this too, except for Combofiend’s team. But Spencer puts that X-Factor to good use, and it’s all well thought out, not just “woah Sentinel’s damage is high, I’ll save X-Factor for him so he can cover my crappy play”.

I don’t know if that was a good norm though. A lot of people using XF extremely early didn’t really benefit from it, especially Ryry who was basically wasting it. I don’t mind it when you’re killing off crucial characters of a team, but I don’t want to see that Fight Club usage of Level 1 X Factor because more often than not, it’s a waste.

Having 2 characters is better than 1, XF3 doesn’t make up for the fact that there’s no assist to cover your approach or DHC into. I said it a few weeks ago, Lv2 XF is better than 3 because you at least have an assist left to help you get in.

Final Round taught me that people cant finish their combos for shit in a game with supposedly the lowest execution barrier ever.

Not really. Lvl 2 Xfactor Zero and Sent will ussually lose to Lvl 3 X Factor Sent. Sad but true.

I noticed it as well, while we did see some lvl 3 x-factor comebacks, people were generally using it for a lot of different things. I can’t really think of any reason why this is happening other than people are figuring out ways to run out the lvl 3 clock and as such making it seem less and less effective. Its fun watching the game grow, every week/tourney we see different habits developing.

@T37 Rampage: I know right, people were dropping combos left and right it was funny to see what will all the complaints about how easy combos are in this game.

Yeah, RyRy wasn’t getting his mileage with XF. Tokido also had a setup he’d obviously practiced with XF1 Wolvie & Akuma, but he pretty much threw it away on multiple occasions because it is so much of a gamble.

I also cringed when an Assist was in magic pixels after a big XFC to try to get rid of them - also thought this messed up a few games where it could have went the other way.

EDIT:

To be completely honest, XF2 and XF3 Sent don’t differ in the sense of ‘don’t get hit’.
I also like the matchup Zero vs Sent. You also don’t call silly assists when Sent is XF3 because he is THAT fast.
