Longer sets are always preferable when there is time to run them. One thing I like about east coast tournaments in particular is that they seem more likely to run 3/5 for at least the last three games (winners final, losers final, grand final) instead of just grand finals.
The final results have been posted. I placed 49th. The two guys I rode with placed 17th and 129th.
Definitely considering heading to Cincy for Power-Up.

Seeing how good Tokido was makes me interested in seeing Japan’s MvC3 scene or at least the people he practices against.

Anyhoo, what’s with the VJ hate? Sure, he’s not godly, but he’s definitely better than Ryu, Captain America, Spider-Man, Hsien-Ko, and Hulk.
EDIT: And with regards to Doom, he’s definitely a good character. He’s just hard as hell to play. The reason he’s getting bad showings is because people throw him on to their team just for his assists and then don’t bother to fucking learn how to play him.
it just dosent look like VJ has anything cheap. this game is about cheap, and he appears to be lacking in that department
like at least ryu has his air tatsu, and his beam hyper is pretty good, and cap can do some bullshit with an assist, and his lvl 1 hypers are ok for blowing thru other random attacks. hulk has super armor and his wave hyper connects from everything, spider man gets in damned easy, and HK is clearly an assist character

Besides Shinku you mean? I mean, yeah, Cap can HCS too, but it’s also unsafe and can have him blown up. Only time Shinku’s unsafe is if you whiff it.
Ryu gets in close, he has air L Tatsu which can be annoyingly tricky.
Ryu’s not MUCH better than Cap, he’s still ass honestly, but Cap just has nothing.
Handjob Hyper, definitely. Also, strong in the air, a stupid good mix-up game and IAD Voomerangs.
EDIT: Cap’s def better than Ryu. Shield Slash as an assist can actually do something and Hyper Charging Star is bomb. Ryu has Shinkuu and that’s it.

I’m probably the last person to be criticizing but here goes. I was not at all pleased with Phoenix teams. I felt that nobody (save for 1 guy) knew that regular Jean is a great character and even if she gets snapped in, she can fight and actually take a character out provided he/she doesn’t get hit. Most of the time when she gets snapped in, they don’t know what to do and they’re freaking out. If it was me, I’d think to myself, I’m whooping your monkey ass.
Another thing is that all the Phoenix teams that I saw, did not have any protection from runners knowing damn well that people run away from a 5 bar Phoenix. I understand that people like their 2 person meter building characters but they are NOT throwaway characters. You need everybody on your team. Phoenix w/ assists = godly. If it was me, off the top of my head, Dormammu (Purification), Dante (Jam Session), Doom (Hidden Missiles) are some choices to deal with runners and AA in general.

lol I love how everyone forgets about thor, thor is without a doubt the worst character in this game at the moment(he might improve with time but I doubt it). He is so bad in fact that most people don’t even acknowledge his existence, as displayed by all of you these past few pages.
I don’t think he is the worst to be honest. He hits hard and at least can set up resets on his own. Just getting in is a bit hard though without assists. Doesn’t take much to kill someone with Thor. Then again I’m a big proponent of Thor… so I am a bit biased. :lol:

Not really, Im pretty sure he’s humbled down after watching this tournament from the side lines, and seeing the possibilities this game cast has to offer.
