MvC3 Tournament and Stream commentary thread

I thought Flash’s Joe looked pretty good, was kinda disappointed by his Morrigan in the loser semi’s from his pool. Phoenix makes people crack.

you missed the whole point, I was pointing out how only 1 guy used him in the top 16 in THIS tourney, but a bunch of people used him in Winter Brawl… as in people adjusted accordingly, I also don’t think only 1 guy used him out of all what? 330 people?

Doom is akward to play. He’s basically a flying Q with lasers. It’ll take time for people to master him.

My mistake.

Cap makes Ryu look competent.

I think that every character has juice, exactly like Seth said. The game is a month out, and most of the cast is used (Except Thor, who is played very little.) Ryu has damn near 100% combos with wall bounces and 1 meter. I wouldn’t sleep on him. Same thing with Joe. His overhead and mixup games are really good.

Don’t have too much experience with Cap, tho.

Sad but true. Ryu can punish assists pretty damn well and at least has some mix-ups with his aerial Tatsu. Plus his beam is more reliable than Akuma’s in that u can move it around. There are a couple of times where opponent’s would sometimes fall out of the beam/fireballs after a ground Tatsu.

Cap is strong but he can absolutely not open ANYONE up without an assist. None of his crap is safe in the slightest. If he’s left alone, he’s dead man walking.

Joe has decent mixups, but he can’t zone for real ( he can baby zone against people like Haggar I guess… ) and is slow as shit. Cap has no mixups and no mobility and bad zoning. Ryu has bad mixups, bad mobility, bad zoning and weak hypers… I’d probably put Cap above Ryu just because he has some threatening tools and better assists… and good hypers. Shinnku hadoken is overrated as hell.

seriously though

sp00ky stream evo

lets make it happen. Final Round was probably one of the best stream productions in a long ass time.

Shinku Hadouken is overrated but you say Cap has better hypers? I’m sorry, what? What threat does Cap have? Literally all he has to open you up is a lockdown assist used with Cartwheel which can be extremely obvious. Sure, he can lay on the hurt when he hits you, but so can half the cast, and half the cast is better at it, including Ryu honestly.

I can’t find it on the Justin.tv channel, but can anyone link me to the final singles on Sunday in MVC3? Thanks.

Never mind, found it: http://www.justin.tv/teamsp00ky/b/281513673 Part 5, starts about 26 minutes in.

Amen.

Seems pretty simple… the only debate is HCS v Shinnku… SnS and FJ are clearly superior to their counterparts.

Ryu doesn’t even have that mixup option though, and poses absolutely no threat midscreen.

he was nervous around rahsaans spiderman, he was dashing back not forward

ultradavid needed to stop screaming for no reason

That guy loves Spencer lmao. That screaming ‘BIONIC ARM’ impression was legendary.
Really great stream, btw. Combofiend pulling off a heroic performance. I was impressed when he 3-0’d Marn, considering his Zero is fucking crazy.

Ryu´s far better than VJ and Cap.

im still using mag and sent. F new characters

congrats to CF and congrats to cali for getting 1st, 2nd and 3rd at an EC tourney. NY aint ready

Combofiend’s Spencer was too hype. It was extremely hard for me to not shout AARRRRRMMMMMM along with him whenever he did that shit, and I was just watching the stream from home, lol. The whole Top 16 was full of great matches, but congratulations especially to Combofiend.

Really glad to see the character diversity start to grow. Thankfully most decent players have now realized Sentinel is “pretty good” at best, with a really great assist, but some terrible matchups. Hopefully now we can all move on to figuring out more ways to blow up Pheonix teams.

What did others think of doing the whole top 8 as best 3/5 instead of best 2/3? I personally liked it a lot more. I think Marvel 3 deserves best 3/5 sets…there are so many viable characters and strategies that you are guaranteed to run into things you’ve never seen before in tournament matches, unlike a lot of other tournament games like SF4 or ST. I think first-to-3 matches are much more likely to let the more skilled player win, as opposed to the player with the most confusing gimmick.
