I’d like to see that auction system show up in a lot of other tournaments.
I’m glad to have finally witnessed Please Help Me used as a full-screen punish on stream.
It’s often listed as a late side tournament in events that I’ve gone to but rarely happens due to delays.

Kerahime and Rexor had some serious success running zoning teams with Sentinel drones, but Justin Wong rushdown did it in the end.

I was really impressed with Rex and Frankie G specifically. That 4 meter double TK hard drive combo Rex did in the corner was ridiculous. Refreshing to see Sentinel do more than BCS after a super to relaunch. Frankie G put on a nice show with the DMC + Doom team. Both Dante and Trish can put all kinds of projectiles on the screen so they do a pretty good job protecting hidden missles and the hidden missles help protect the characters well also. He was kinda lackluster with Doom on point but that’s pretty much how all Dooms will be on point for a while. He made some poor choices in continuing to throw ground plasma beam without cancelling into super against Wong’s Wolvie approaching with dive kicks. Once Wolvie starts jumping in and you’re on the ground shooting plasmas you have to cancel into photon array or sphere flame or you’re basically dead. Which if you’re in XF can actually do some real damage to Wolvie mashing on dives. Kera’s sentinel assisted Tron was surprisingly effective on point also.
Seeing at least 3 or 4 Dantes in top 8 is not surprising. That character with assists just has no issues and can one shot you whenever he wants barring meter/execution. Definitely will never be less than top 3 and most likely already is or will become pretty much number one in the game. Magneto is a walking mix up and Rexor was doing tri dash mix ups with Magneto that looked like they were practically glitching the camera or something.
Sentinel assist is still the main reason to keep Sentinel on your team as long as you protect it well enough to not get it blown up on a bad call. Sentinel’s viability in the back is way too strong in general also. Nothing you can do but lame him out one he gets mad. The health nerf kills Sentinel’s strength towards the front of a team but in the back it’s the same comeback BS and his big ass aerial normal hit boxes and TK hard drive generally do a good job keeping shit off him. He has issues without XF but XF3 just juices him up to basically a top 5 character. It’s just once he loses it he goes back to being just good especially without an assist protecting him. Wolverine has no problem going in on a burnt out XF Sentinel with no assists. Especially if he has assists and XF backing him up.
In general it was nice to see a level of play at the top 8 where people are actually thinking and not dropping basic combos every 2 seconds. Most of lower level play on streams is still riddled with people dropping ABCS Sentinel stuff and generally poor decisions in spacing (calling assists when you’re in the corner, being in the middle of the screen against dark phoenix, whiffing S normals praying for stuff with Hulk/Sent), meter usage ( saving meter too often instead of going for the burn to kill off a character) and XF. It’s also becoming very apparent that high level play of this game will start to revolve more around level 1 and 2 XF than level 3. Level 3 you should only really be using if you are getting destroyed. In general a lot of people are still not using XF to help kill off characters and against characters like Wolverine it’s becoming apparent that it’s almost a requirement to use XF to kill him off especially after a blocked dive. They purposely designed him that way I guess.
Yeah, that surprised me too. Tron seemed so hard to approach just jumping back with Heavy while the drones did their thing. Rexor played very similarly, but with Magneto Disrupter spam thrown in as well.
Kinda cool to see some defensive play thrown in the mix with all the Wolverine/She-hulk teams that are pure offense.

Didn’t see very many Phoenix teams make it in UFGT. I’m guessing a lot of the West Coast Phoenix teams will show well at EVO, though.
Long as they dont get randomed out yeah.
