The disgusting start up and recovery isn’t a big deal when she fights most characters IMO (at least for now). It’s just Magneto’s gravity screen is like a real direct counter to dark phoenix. It’s a fast starting super that has a hit box that covers the entire screen space. You have 20 frames after Magneto completes the motion for the super where he can be hit but if u dont touch him with anything in those 20 frames he freezes the game with the blue super screen and then when the freeze is over the game takes a picture of the entire stage. If you’re doing an attack or not blocking you will be caught. Which is effectively broke vs. Phoenix. LOL.
Storm’s hail storm gives Phoenix a hard time for a similar reason but it has 40 frame start up and at least has a couple dead zones.
Well not just mags if you think bout it, sent can easily hard drive her on reaction, super skrull can meteor smash her on reaction, mags can magnetic shockwave her, and Im guessing thor can might thunder her as well. Ammy can most definitely okami shuffle, and at the right height storm can hail storm, anyone with a tracking teleport can pop up behind her and combo her for free, hulk can definitely gamma crush her with fast enough reaction, she-hulk might be able to AA grab her but I doubt it, anyone with dante on their team can just call out a jam session on her, if morrigan is airborne she can lvl 3 her although ill need to test this out since her lvl 3 seems a lil slow, taskmaster, iron man and ryu might even be able to angle shot her out of the air. I haven’t tested all of these out of course but I have seen some of them in action and they worked perfectly.
Honestly man I think the main problem with phoenix/dark phoenix is you need to know the match-up to survive and most people don’t this early in the game, apparently her teleports even have recovery so if you bait one out(and we all know how careful dark phoenix’s are with their teleports) you combo her for free as justin showed at WNF last week.

I think ultimately the balance that Phoenix and Dark Phoenix brings to the game will reveal its ups and downs eventually.
Those options aren’t bad but a lot of them lose to her super jumping then throwing a shot to teleport or just plain old super jumping while blocking then landing and setting up traps or scaring them from trying to punish with a teleport. Which means you have to rely on reading teleport recovery to hit her which is possible but not something that can be done all the time or else Phoenix players would never teleport. Especially when she’s already laying traps on the screen to protect you from getting towards her while spamming shots. If she kills one of your characters she can even set up traps for the next one and if one hits she can just loop the trap at least 3 or 4 times which can kill most characters quickly especially if she’s in x factor. Her teleport, shots and traps effectively becomes faster when she’s in level 3 x factor any way.
In general the whole point of the character is that she can die quickly if the opponent makes a good read but if the D.Phoenix player makes one good read they are toast also. Which ends up into a broken balance basically. LOL. Due to her play style she will basically always be effective in tourneys because she already has what she needs to destroy in one touch. There’s no having to figure out a DHC glitch to 100 percent with 2 meters or any of that stuff. Just make sure you have 5 meters and make sure she’s cracked out in X Factor level 3 and know how to protect yourself with your special moves and manage what the opponent is doing well enough to hit them one time.
Well I guess we will have to wait and see how she works out in terms of balance. I just think its ridiculous people complain she is broken when most people don’t even know the match-up, lets ignore the fact that bout 90 percent of players don’t even snap her in to begin with.
Oh 8wayrun tourney is starting, marlinpie claims he has a 1 million combo with viper that only requires one bar and no x-factor. Claims he will attempt it on the stream.
Damian would be a really beastly player if he did combos.

Why oh why do people not snap phoenix in? Am i missing something? Its really getting old at this point so Im thinking maybe there is a reason why people don’t do it and Im missing said reason.
Unless you’re playing specific teams with usually quite a bit of meter to spare, it’s really easy for a decent phoenix to run away and tag herself back out… imo.
