MvC3 Tournament and Stream commentary thread

The reason you see two point characters + Phoenix is because she has very few weaknesses for an assist to cover. She’s such a well rounded character that pretty much any assist will benefit her. I still very much believe that your two point characters need to have excellent synergy by themselves just in case Phoenix gets snapped in and blown up. I really don’t think you need to build a team around her.

What I’d definitely like to see is people using DPh earlier in the match. I saw it a few times on the stream, but the vast majority of players still try to save her for lvl 3 XF. I want to see Phoenix come in as soon as the team gets 4 to 4.5 bars and then continue to fight when/if she turns into DPh. A lot of DPh players are using lvl 3 XF as a crutch to offset her constant life loss. DPh is a completely different experience when you’re playing her in the middle of a match with no XF running and no meter for healing field (i.e. as soon as Jean transforms into DPh). I’d love to see DPh build that first meter, pop healing field, and then use whatever assists to her advantage to get in. She still needs to play very conservatively because of her health and she doesn’t get the herp derp lvl 3 XF damage, but she’s still a very solid character as well.

Playing DPh early also somewhat offsets the opponent’s incentive to run away the whole match. There is less concern about them running away from normal Phoenix to get a time out victory, because she will also have her partners on the sideline with (hopefully) a decent amount of health.

I been messing around with early DPh online and you see some really interesting behavior from your opponents once they realize you aren’t going to tag her out for later. Some people preemptively pop XF cause they expect massive chip, or they want to chip you out (via beam supers or whatever). Sometimes you do need to pop the defensive lvl 1 XF to avoid the chip. Other people will just run away and attempt to let the DPh life drain do the work for them. That’s where DPh needs to use her assists, teleport, traps, etc to build that first bar of meter ASAP so she can get healing field rolling. Once you get healing field up it becomes alot less intense (as DPh lol) and you can focus more on your lockdown mixups.

This is how I’ve played Dark Phoenix myself; basicly because I consider her to be like an X Factored character all in herself, and I have two other characters who also make mean opponents on level 2 or 3 X Factor. I feel as if I have more flexibility and options that way. I will say though, that she definately isn’t the level of threat without X Factor that she is with it at level 3. The speed boost makes a huge difference to her fireball screen-filling, her teleport offense is so much harder to defend against and the damage boost takes her chip game almost off the charts (when they don’t have their own X Factor, of course). Without X Factor, she just feels like a buff character to me; with level 3 X Factor, she’s the team-killer of the game.

I’m on the side that would like to see her players make more decisions with her healing field in mind. Burning a bar with regular Phoenix can be a big call (it can help save her if she can get away after being snapped in with 2 meters), but if you’re Dark and you have health to gain, it’s a good idea to use it. Getting caught in a combo with healing field on is like an artifical 800k life bar.

*I felt this was the best thread to bring up this sort of thing, rather than to make a new thread about it; but how are people dealing with all these new streams in terms of broadband usage?

How much data should it be taking to watch a stream or an archive of one? basically because I’ve been trying to keep up with the WNF and some of the events and stuff, but according to my ISP I’ve now gone through a 40 GB monthly allowance in 14 days!

Other than forum browsing, some of the youtube videos around eventhubs and SRK front page, some playing online and now the streams, I don’t do much else with my home connection. Seems really extreme to me, (infact I’ve barely been able to creep under this 40 GB limit during my contract) and I’m wondering whether to challenge them, but I just don’t have any knowledge of usage levels to back me up.

Final Round for example, on Friday and Saturday watching the MvC3 and SSF4 events; my ISP has logged me at 5.28 GB and 5.76 GB for those days respectively. Then on Sunday 13th for the MvC3 Grand Finals, I only saw the Winner’s Finals and conclusion of the Tekken Grand Finals, and then of course the last 16 of MvC3; and I have 3 GB for that day.

Is everyone else getting usage levels like that for streams?*

I live in the USA and my ISP doesn’t have any monthly “cap”, which I find completely retarded that some companies have and can’t believe people haven’t fought against preventing or removing these caps.

Great commentators
Keits
Ultra Dave
Skitsonic

Crap commentators

I have no idea whats his name but I can only say that he’s the fat dude who got owned by skitsonic during winterbraw for keep talking over him.

Noel Brown: This guy just keeps yelling over the other commentator IE: Ultra Dave from final round XIV. I can’t even hear what ultra dave has to say.

So please keep these guys OFF THE MIC!

Yipes, Lee Chung, Keits, Ski Sonic, Arturo and Ultra David are elite commentators

Good player commentators include Marn, Justin, Gootecks, Ross

Would love to see more people from different areas get on the mic for example: Sanford, Flash Metroid, Floe, Ricky Ortiz, Filipino Champ, WolfKrone

Well typical stream is a few hundred MB/hour.
Get a new ISP or upgrade to a package with a higher limit. Ask your ISP first about usage though.
How people can survive with low limits is beyond me.
In Canada I’m on a 300GB package, in the UK I’m on an unlimited; you should be on one of these if you’re in Shrewsbury, UK.

Too many people busy being utterly worthless. No need to bother knowing about things going on, let alone think about doing something about it.

This is a sore subject with me. Canada is especially notorious for it’s incredibly poor internet, and we just dodged a bullet when the duopoly here got a bill passed for a 25gb monthly cap on all ISPs and a $1.99 charge per gig over that cap.

For any Canadian posters here, if it’s applicable in your area, get off of those twats Bell or Roger’s and jump on that sexy TekSavvy network.

On topic:
Wednesday night fight stream was decent. As much as I love Clockw0rk for rocking his Doom & Phoenix, I feel like he would be much, much stronger without her on the team. Capcom needs to get cracking and drop that Strider DLC already.

Shout outs to salty Floe. You can just tell Phoenix makes him sick to his stomach.

Marn’s “I don’t play this game much and it sucks” gimmick is getting really old. He already pulled that one with TvC. Mix it up a bit.

Fixed

Canada seems to really like Skrull.

canadacup on Justin.tv

SSF4 Teams at the moment

Marvel teams just started @ Canada Cup

Sorry to all canadians for saying this…

But this tourney got so many bad players… -.-

EDIT: Marn said he’s gay… Best moment of the stream…

None taken, its the simple truth, a lot of those players played terribly. I actually felt ashamed watching some of those matches. Dropped combos are ok, dudes were probably just nervous, but dudes were just making horrid decisions left and right, random x-factor activations, not adapting to the match-up, just very bad play all around.

Good sh8t to James lol rocking the Elder God.

James running Shuma, good stuff
I always love to see people take the ball and run with a char that almost no one plays (well in this case he’s just to new  ).

James is on fire, but actually is because the players in this tourney are terrible…

Crap I missed everything, I left cause I was bored to death and it sounds like I missed out on some good stuff. Oh well, hopefully the matches get uploaded so I can check em out.

James Chen has an awesome Shuma.

It’s beautiful ;_;

I just love Zero. Any good zero match is the best fight vid on the net IMO.
