For me, I hate the lack of active frames, and I’m not a big fan of the whole Ultra Combo thing. I’d rather just multiple meters, like 3S.

Also… guard meters are SPARSELY broken by a long range poker, as you described… Blanka, seriously? The meter is most frequently broken by Sakura and Rolento, honestly. A groove is almost a requirement to really kill guard meter, especially if you’re playing against somebody using a roll groove. They cause people to want to take the initiative to fight more. Do you realize the pace of CvS2? You know how long the matches would be if not? It encourages you to play the actual game, if nothing else. It benefits every character, as it encourages rushdown and offense in a very defensive game.

i mean i get where youre coming from but i would rather play a slightly inferior game that i am not nostalgic for if the competition pool is going to be literally 10-15 times bigger than the previous incarnation was. i still love cvs2 but i’m not gonna practice it instead of ae because i would rather enter a tourney with 150 entrants instead of a tourney with 15.
i mean how do we even know cvs3 would be a bad game, by its nature of being paired up with snk i do not think it will be a blockbuster in the west regardless. whereas the versus games were always created with fanboy casuals in mind, the direction marvel 3 was taken in shouldn’t have been a surprise to you. i wouldn’t even play the game in a tournament because i feel like a 2/3 set is way too random but you cannot deny that the game is a lot of fun in casual sets even at a high mid to top level.

Though I understand what you’re talking about, I’m going to argue this. I’d rather play in a tournament with 150 over 15, as you would, BUT I would rather play in a tournament of 15, if the quality of players is higher. Those players that respect these “harder” fighters from back in the day, tend to be better, SOLELY on the basis of - that’s the game they’ve been playing for 10+ years, and they’re great players. I’d rather take last in a small tournament of great players than grind my way through a simplistic game with simplistic players.
TLDR - I think AE is boring and every match feels exactly the same to me.
yeah i also see where you’re coming from. no one can deny that a lot of bad players have come into the scene since sf4 has been released (who really aren’t even gonna go to tournaments anyway) but at the same time there are a shitton of GOOD players who came in at the same time. i have no doubt that if a bunch of the talented 09ers decided to focus on a game like cvs2 they would pick it up and become strong players a lot quicker than you would expect. that’s why i think every single game that drops from now on, simple mechanics or not, will have a way higher ratio of strong competitive players thus greatly increasing the fun factor for me.
yeah you reserve your right to say AE sucks and i don’t think it is the best game, but without tooting my own horn as much as possible i enjoy being strong in that game because the sheer diversity and amount of players i can run good sets with is way more rewarding to me personally.

but there are the possibilities they might not destroy it. cvs3 can be made to play just like cvs2 with minor(KEYWORD) changes. at least thats what I am hoping. I mean really…are we just gonna let the cvs2 engine(best capcom ever made) go to waste? all that variety, fun factor, replay value.

still though, two years was quite a long time ago. you’ve been around for a while and know that you can’t get good at fighters overnight. vanilla was still pretty much dominated by oldschool players because the new guys hadn’t been around long enough to really start understanding how to play these games. since evo2010 a lot of new guys rose up and are top players now.

I know that today’s SF4 players are better than 2 years ago… But I hate today’s SF4, so there’s that… I thought Vanilla was perfect as it was, and I really enjoyed the game… I still do, actually I played it yesterday. I hate Super SF4 with a passion… AE’s better, but SSF4 was just plain donkey balls.
