MvC3: Magneto: Questions (and Answers) Thread

My dear friends, please enlighten me about the Wolverine matchup. People say that Magnus walk over him, people say that it’s his worst matchup. I don’t know what to think anymore.

How should I approach it? What to do?

Normal jump back dash mblast seems to be the answer for this matchup.

obviously don’t call assist in start of the round. forcefield actually works pretty good against wolverine at that time during the match so you could go for the throw, he techs and your FF counter hit into shockwave and if you’re lucky the you’ll catch that doom or vergil in the process lol

Tips vs Taskmaster backed by Missles? Feel like I can’t move or call assists in this match up. I know this match up is not problematic in high level play, so what is the game plan for mag (backed by doom beam) to gain advantage?

For this match up, the opponent is obviously going to shoot arrows + missiles. In this particular scenario you need to fly around in areas his missiles or arrows do not reach and then pressure him with triL or something (Not mag blast because shield skills beats it free…unless you do it from a distance).

On my team, I have sent drones as my assist so what I do is I’ll fly around dodging his attacks and when missiles are gone I’ll plink dash mag blast + call sent drones and I’ll be able to go for a triL or mix up since he’s definitely not going to want to call missiles when I’m in dat culo.

If he’s rushing down with task + missiles, you still fly around and here you would try to snipe the missiles with EM disruptor (If he punishes you with arrows do shockwave [from a distance]). You never want to sit still in this match up because you’ll get chipped/locked down instantly. AND ONLY MAG BLAST AT A DISTANCE.

Wasn’t sure whether I should bring this here or not but I’m noticing for the optimized combos you guys always hit the mag blast very low to the ground. Almost touching the ground and while I managed to do 4 or 5 of those combos without hitting it low to the ground I’m sure that’s the best way to do it.
The problem is I don’t understand how RayRay is doing it.


At first I thought I need to delay the mag blast but I’ve been practicing and it seems like the trick is to do [:s: sj :h: ad :h: magblast] as fast as possible. Is that it? My mag blasts aren’t hitting quite as low but it’s looking more like rayray’s.

Edit: Yeah I guess that was the trick and lol these are actually so much easier than they seem. I’m still only 75% consistent with ia plinked mag dashes but other than that these were a cake walk.

Question? and this may be a stupid 1 so I don’t think it needs its own thread, so here goes… Do you think we’ve maxed out Mags potential? and I’m not talking about style of play here, I’m talking about raw new tech to add to our play, something game changing or even game breaking? for those that check my channel I’ve found a few things, new grav loop or a midscreen grav setup (though i heard I was not the 1st to find this) etc… I think the last thing found was the dash window after a s.j distruptor by Helix, I’ve always since vanilla wanted to break mags forcefield but it seem to be coded to good lol make it useful outside certain matchups or something… What I’m trying to say is I can’t think of shit to do, bin in the lab for a month now and can’t find sweet F-A , I feel like 2 years in and the game engine has been figured out already!

in short I feel tech deprived… Has anyone got ANYTHING!!!

I think RayRay has. Almost best movement, always optimized combos, setups, resets. Too much magblast but still he’s close as it gets to optimized.

That’s not what I’m talking about, I’m talking about genuine tech.

Honestly the age of newtech is almost over. Now the age of refinement begins.

guys what exactly is that thing that most magnetos do at the end of any combo when they do a little jump dash heavy then special?

Also as of late I’ve been facing a lot of PR Balrogs team,Wolverine gives me a lot of trouble in the point war and missiles gets sniped by beam so what do you think of using rocks to counter pick beam?

Against PR Rogs team…try Beam vs Beam lol. At the beginning of the match, I usually try to stay away from Wolv…I’ll upback and get space then neutral jump back dash mblast to catch any follow ups.

yeah exactly and while mblast is how I normally open them up its still pretty rare :\

It’s just a box dash, if you’ve ever messed around with Viper combos before, it’s the same thing.

What normal stuffs/beats Tron’s box dash S? Or should I be airgrabbing that?

How does one consistents addf mag blast? I just can’t do it in neutral.

Any one have tricks or tips on the haggar fight? I played my magneto/Zero/Doom-beam team against a Haggar/Chris gun team and got bopped over a long set.

Couple of sticking points : start of round options/safety, escaping the corner to not get piped.
Then there’s the problem that I retreat from the middle stage too soon. I play a zoning game in the middle but should be picking spots to go in, only I don’t see them.

I’ve got a few tricks: punish lariat with c.H and shockwave if they super.
Use counter to antiair j.Pipe, and to counter/bait lariats.
Lately start of round i’ve just been dashing back and shockwave to build space.

While I could play better in the middle, if I had a way out of the corner safely I’d probably win more. I just keep getting piped as I try to super jump up dash fly dash across the screen. Should I practice execution until I can plink dash full screen rather than zig zag?

Zone him, time your beams while you’re zoning so that there can be less holes for him to exploit.

And the thing you should look out for most is when haggar super jumps towards you while you’re in the corner, plinkdash/wavedash under him so you can get out of the corner and run to the other side.
