MvC3: Magneto: Questions (and Answers) Thread

You learn anchor magneto by learning magneto himself, in any position, imo.

he’s just a fundamental heavy character, marvel-wise, and you’ll be relying solely on his versatility to win, no bullshit to abuse, just outright being better.

Your main tools by yourself are throw, boxdash L.Blast, cr.L, cr.M, st.L, tri.j.L and fullscreen disruptor snipes. anything else is either unsafe or too slow to risk if you’re in a do or die situation. You pretty much use these 7 tools in conjunction with his great movement to slowly but surely mount your comeback. any hit is at least 600k solo. off of throws, if you dont have xfactor or lvl3, you should do a hefty combo and then snap to get an incoming mixup (because solo resets are not that good in this game, what with all the different teching options, you risk losing momentum, positioning and/or getting randomly footdive’d, helm breaker’d or thrown).

Sorry if this is not very helpful, but he’s not very flowcharty as an anchor, compared to Vergil, Strider, Phoenix, so I can only tell you general stuff.

And yes, grab does become more important when most of your other options are unsafe without assists, if the opponent is looking for them/mashing like a maniac and gets lucky.

PS.: This was mostly posted thinking of a solo, no xfactor magneto. If you have xfactor, you get to go A LOT more HAM with your shit. J.H and S become godlike, tri.j.L becomes insanely hard to block, you can kill quickly from ANY touch (seriously, any touch, anywhere), etc etc

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a successful Magnus/Mag Team without Doom, Sent, or Vergil other than maybe Yipes and Alioune.
Who do you guys use?

No, this was a fantastic answer! I figured as much, really, as like I was sayin, I’ve play a lot of point mag. I’m just so much more hesitant to go in solo, but u just really have to pick your spots. The team context is xxx dorm mag, with my ideal point being morrigan, but it remains to be seen if the team works. I really dig it tho, but am prepared to replace the point if need be.

Jam session from kbeast, anchor mag from ranmasama, masta cj, marlinpie occasionally with cold star, just off the top of my head.

@ThisGuileKillYa
Cj uses Mags Doom Dorm and the MarlinPie team is expired but I feel the Kbeast and Ranmasama teams. Great stuff to them.

CJ started using that very recently, but for over a year he used Dorm Mag Wesker with much success. Marlin rarely trots out the Mag version of his team since Ultimate, but he has done it here and there. So they’re valid examples, especially the CJ one.

There’s also Wentinel Wesk Dorm Mag (my prefered order for that team), Quandizzle with Mag Task Dorm (though he does also sometimes go w/ Mag Dorm Doom IINM), Y2J Wolvie Spencer Mag, and Demon Hyo runs Wolvie Mag and Chun as well as Hawkeye Storm Mag.

Thanks those are some better examples. Lol but you’ve basically just said the people don’t play Mags without Vergil, Doom, Sent, Dorm, Phoenix.
Other than those last few guys.
I wonder what people on the forum use like how bout you Guile. I’m looking for a team that isn’t team FChamp (even though I love Dorm)

I thought you were looking for Mag teams w/o Doom, Sent, and Vergil? That’s what I posted. lol Me? I like a few teams w/ Mag, and some have Doom or Vergil. Right now I’m addicted to Dorm with Disruptor, so experimenting with various xxx Dorm Mag teams. I’m also playing a lot of Morrigan, so right now my ‘main’ would have to be Morri Dorm Mag, but still undecided if that’s good enough for Morrigan. It’s def sick for Dorm, but I may end up having to deal with Morri not being a good fit. Though man good points exist for that shell, ie. Dante, Wesker, Viper, Zero, Haggar, Nemesis if you don’t mind low-tier-hero-ing, and others.

If you’re cool with Magnus being in the back, Disruptor is so good, the world is your magnetized oyster.

I use the most optimized Magneto team [imo] of Magneto/Vergil/Doom. both magneto and vergil are usually interchangeable on point status and can kill from just about anywhere without any fucks given lol

I guess I’m living in the past, but I can’t call a team without drones “most optimized” for magneto.

Inversely, I can’t call a team with sentinel “most optimized” for any character.

Lol

And I used Mangeto Doom Vergil for some time but the top tierness made me feel dirty as fuck every time I played (and not in a good way.)

Hey, if it works for you, go for it. If you’re lookin to try something new but powerful, swap vergil w/ Jam Session Dante. Actually, I prefer weasel shot for Mag, but I think most theorists would disagree. To me Weasel shot can act as drones 4 and 5, or missiles 7-10, and even on its own sets up a beautiful lockdown for trijumpiture.

LOL I feel like most players are so mobile and arial, it’s hard to set up that sweet situation where the opponent is on the ground blocking drones, while Mag is right there in their face to tri jump 9 times. But if one can consistently set that situation up then, yeah, drones should be nearly required lol Oh, PS. Looking at your sig, any idea what Shady’s beef w/ Nova is? Just that he’s a bootleg Mag or something?

Mostly nova being pretty derpy in terms of abusing hitboxes and overall how safe his moves are specially when coupled with assists. ShadyK (and pretty much the rest of FGTV) talked about that while they were doing those “dream patch” videos.

Ahh, sadly I missed those. lol He does have some abusable hitboxes, but he’s still pretty ‘fair.’

Some of them were spot on others, made the FGTV crew look like fools. When they tried to Balance characters they didn’t understand they just dreamed up the stupidest patches. Chris for example.

Also I’m leaning towards a less used team thats still good because of the synergy.
For example most Firebrand teams (Bennets old team)
Looked like three average characters then BAM! TOD your entire team.
I’m not looking for anything that crazy just some teams you’ve seen that were deceivingly good.

I’m just looking for a Magneto team that isn’t full of overused characters but still has cool synergy (like Bennets old team, maybe expecting that synergy is too much)

Have you ever played a Nova who option selects air H with throw and then constantly does crouching medium whenever he lands with frame advantage? Especially while calling an assist (i.e. all of them)? It’s almost unstoppable for most of the cast lol. Nova is like a Magneto for lazy people who like derp. Plus he really only has 2 or 3 bad matchups. I’m always stunned when i see him listed outside of the top 10. I’d probably put him at 7 or 8 myself.

He has damage issues ( actually does less damage than most people think). And the lack of a fast low hurts him more tha i have admitted in the past.

But yeah, novas good. Lots of tools and all his best supports are good characters/anchors (doom, strider, ammy)

Oh yeah, no doubt Nova’s very very good. I’ve played em a good deal myself (like you said, lazy Magneto :stuck_out_tongue: ). That’s why I had to put ‘fair’ in quotes. lol Was very much relatively speaking.

Personally I think his jump up, dash down L is his nastiest weapon, or at least can be. It’s so bizarre: you say, “nova has shitty lows. So always block high. Just block Nova high and you’re good.” Then he jumps into the air and you let him hit you with a jL. Grr!

Does anybody use a dualshock when playing magneto? I’ve been playing with magneto for a while and I’m trying to improve him and I’m trying to learn plink dashing what methods do you guys use? my right shoulder buttons are l+M and M+h. and my left shoulder buttons are my assists

Damn midscreen Rom is hard :frowning:
Tips please?
BTW Bloo you weren’t showing up in my sub box for like 3 months had to catch up on your vids.
