MvC3: Magneto: Questions (and Answers) Thread

I’m mainly trying to use it to complement my mag blast zoning, like for instance once they realize they can’t stay on the ground (unless “they” is vergil…) it leads them to j or sj height. Aside from keeping pressure with throws or sj C airdash shenanigans I really don’t know how to keep on zoning and maintain screen control so I thought sj disruptors would be key here but it hasn’t really paidoff lol. Anyways thanks

So over the last few months I’ve been maining team OmG iTz a FrAuD (Vergil, Magneto, Wesker in whatever order), and Magneto is certainly the weakest link on my team (figures since I originally picked him up to be mainly an assist). I can do his combos fine (since any corner to corner combo into hyper grav loop is sufficient), but my main problem is trying to figure out how to approach as Magneto without an assist. I’ve played some point Magneto backed with either drones or missiles, and that makes it stupid easy to get in onto an opponent for several high low mixups. Whenever I’m playing as solo Magneto I often just find myself playing very defensively by backing up, throwing lots of magnetic blasts and distrupters. Whenever I try to mount an offense, I usually find myself tridashing like an idiot or with an occasional box dash magnetic blast and get opened up while dashing. The only time I can usually get a good hit or mixup is when I back my opponent into a corner. Anyone have any general tips for approaching with solo Magneto? I feel like my general neutral game with him is lacking.

I suggest nj airdash backwards magnetic blast or air dash up back to down back magnetic blasts to cover the neutral. Solo mag is still a force but with no assists covering him, you’re going to want to be very cautious since he dies in one combo. Another thing too is that you gotta work on your tridashes so that your speed is up to snuff.

Just watch how FChamp or Fanatiq play with him on point so you can get a general understanding of movement.

“Whenever I’m playing as solo Magneto I often just find myself playing very defensively by backing up, throwing lots of magnetic blasts and distrupters.”

You’re doing it right then. Just playing like this opens a lot of opportunities for you. They blocked a blast? Tri-jump them, tick-throw them, throw another one.

Hi, all Magnus players!! I’m new to Magnus and the only combos I am able right now to perform are the fly/unfly loops. Could you tell me what will my next learning step? Magnetic Blast combos?

Thanks in advance

Take your pick: Magnetic Blast combos or Hyper Grav loops. It’ll be good to know HG loops as combo extension for flight to unfly/fly cancel to HG loops.

But again its your pick…doesnt really matter which you learn next but just make sure you learn both. Its always good to know most of Magnetos combos. After you do learn all of those, I’d then look into Rom.

Learn for Midscreen one of these:
Extended Flight Combos
Magnetic Blast Combos
Airdash loops
ROM

For the Corner learn any variation of hypergrav loop or Fly/Rom/Magnetic Blast transitions into your hypergrav loop of choice.

Magneto combos are really all preference to be honest, his damage output does not change that significantly between combo to combo especially if you end the combos in tempest.

So I’m trying to learn Magneto and some midscreen damage but it’s messing up. What am I doing wrong? Clearly I’m landing before I’m getting the H off so Its coming out on the ground and I cant jump to continue the loop. But specifically as far as my timing or whatever do I need to change

you have to delay your second ADDF so that mags cant get high enough for the j. H to come out

Your problem is, you’re not super jumping. After the first addf H and land, you have to super jump up forward H. Visually you can see that you’re getting the super jump. Then I looked at your inputs and in some of them it looked like you’re just holding up.

The loop for midscreen is sjuf.H, addf.h

Use these videos as reference and watch the inputs.

If he’s just trying to do the Fanatiq BnB, he can just neutral jump.

[S]So working more with Magnetic Blast combos, when i get to the comber doing cr.LMHS J.H ADF J.H MBLast L _/ cr.HS J.H ADF J.H MBlast L, the second blast whiffs most of the time. Should i be changing what i do, or should i be hitting them on some specific height/using a different blast?[/S]

Nevermind.

Do your damn research Jolly lol

I just added Magneto on my team and I have a couple of questions:
What are some tips for movement with Magneto?
How do you dash forward and use magnetic blast?

Practice moving in training mode, pretty much. Set the dummy to CPU hardest, give him like, Wesker Vergil strange and navigate around the characters. Just moving around and evading stuff.
Fly > dashes, trijumps, wavedashes, the works.

As for dashing and magblasting, dash and mag blast.

I highly recommend this, using an AI opponent on training mode to practice your neutral/movement/confirms is a very good way to practice and learn the game.

For mobility here’s what’s important:
-Wavedashing fowards(if you can do it backwards that’s great too)
-addf jL (main mixup/poke tool)
-sj addf jH/jS (best pokes)
-addb jH/jS for spacing backwards(imo it’s better than wavedashing backwards for Magneto)

  • jump dash upwards and fly, master your flight movement while calling assists to set up lockdown on the bottom, mastering this and controlling him in flight mode is one of the most important and difficult aspects of Magneto Play.
-Air Dash Magnetic Blasts both adf/adb/addf, no secret to them besides practice or plinking them.

the thing about airdash down back is that it is really slow because of the universal ADDB nerf. i would say wavedashing backwards is much faster wavedashing backwards

Airdashing backwards without a button is really slow due to the deceleration at the end of his airdash added in Ultimate, but with jS/jH it’s not that slow and he lands faster, it also puts a hitbox in front(jH also hits teleports behind him) of him so it’s hard to chase him down relatively. I don’t have vanilla right now to test addbs, but I’m sure it’s faster in vanilla, but u/b addb jS/jH is still a very good spacing tool and is one of his buffs in Ultimate.

dont really feel like reading through 17 pages. could someone hook it up with magnetos best bread and butter (solo) ending in hyper grab loops. ty

Doesn’t matter what BnB you use as long as you can do Hyper Grav loop at the end.
