I’d say Mag/Doom/Ammy is better than Mag/Dante/Sent due to my reliance on TAC’s and missiles, but maybe I’ll try Mag/Dante/Sent. Lol. Sucks that I’m using a hybrid (Mag/Doom/Dante) that’s actually worse than the original two. Haha.
I’ve been playing around with Mag/Dante/Doom too. It’s definitely solid but its not uber, I just think it’s sick when you THC with Doom and foot dive them at the end shot of Million Dollars.
only reason i don’t play Spencer/Magneto is because preference since it can get either way. obvious flaws are unstable conversions (at the moment) off of EMD and having more bad match ups than magneto.
that and it’s also a character loyalty type deal being that i’ve used him since he was first playable in the vs series lol
i too am trying to find the ideal Mag/Sent team; they’re the two characters i enjoy most.
i don’t think Dante is it. Dante + Disruptor is so much better than Dante + Drones, and the former needs a 2nd character with a good DHC for Dante (i.e. Vergil). Magneto has to be anchor on such a team, at which point you wouldn’t run Sentinel.
Magneto/Nova/Sent is the only team i’ve been able to come up with where Drones are honestly better than Missiles, and Sentinel is worth the slot in general.
Mag/Spencer/Sent.
Also Dante can set up so many mixups with drones it isn’t even funny. Teleport then dash to the other side, Double dash in devil trigger, Acid Rain, Hysteric, etc. Drones is a godlike assist for dante with all his left-right shenanigans.
A little late to this but I decided to pick up Magneto again after seeing FChamp play at EVO. Team is Magneto/Strange/Ammy-- it’s a little unorthodox because it’s not everyday you see Strange on a Magneto team, but think of it as a mix between Magneto/Storm and Marlinpie’s x/Doom/Ammy shell. I get a little bit of both in that I get DHC punishes with Spell of Vishanti, Magblast zoning with Bolts assist, corner lockdown stuff with Cold Star, and of course, dat THC. It’s pretty silly how well both Mags and Strange make use of Ammy’s THC.
Still trying to come up with setups for this team, but as of a couple of days ago, my best corner reset with Cold Star is: off Hyper Grav, dash back, st.H (call Ammy), delayed Repulsion, then free high-low. The dash back makes it so that Cold Star locks down every time after a well-timed Repulsion, no matter what direction the opponent rolls. It’s probably old, but it works I guess. lol. Anyway, yeah I’m having way more fun with this team than my other ones. Bring Strange in mid-combo and the opponent is guaranteed dead-- DHC or TAC off pretty much anything, including OS throws.
I am playing viper magneto hidden missiles. is it better to have magnus on point? he eats way too many incoming mixups because my viper is mediocre and magneto projectile assist doesnt seem too helpful atm
It’s a pretty solid team setup. I like the idea behind it. Not only can you abuse DHC punishes, you can also use the blockstun cancel tech since SoV is 1f post startup, and you can lead to ToDs off that with Xfactor(I guess spending Xfactor is wasteful here since you can use it with Magneto, but it’s still a good way to tag Magneto out.)
Also a better setup to use is end hypergrav with crH xx repulsion +ammy assist. You can do some neat stuff with stH xx Repulsion to end hypergrav if you have an assist that comes behind Magneto, for example I can use Task Arrows, do stH xx Repulsion, will meaty crossup forward rolls, and lock them down on neutral or back tech. I don’t know why more players pick Ammy other than Doom players as a lot of the cast can abuse that THC very well.
I dont think Magneto and Viper have that much synergy. Like none of Viper’s assist help with Magneto’s gameplan other than unblockable resets, and Viper doesnt really benefit from Magneto’s disruptor which is pretty mediocre as a projectile for her gameplan and doesn’t even extend combos anymore. They don’t even have good DHC synergy with no safe DHCs(but Viper’s supers do a lot of damage). In vanilla Marlinpie would at least use disruptors soft knockdown to extend combos, and use the Mag/Ammy shell as back up, now they don’t really work well together.
Yeah I won a FT5 vs. a Zero/Doom/Vergil player recently with this team; pretty convincingly, I might add. I’m not even worried about stuff like fullscreen air buster shots into lightning with this team because I can always punish with SoV, XF, ToD combo. I even found a way to convert off SJ height so I give even less fucks about punishing your shit with SoV lol. All my Magneto combos allow Strange to do one rep of the Faltine loop post-TAC and I almost always end up somewhere around 850k meterless, building around 3 bars in the process.
I think alot of us tried Strange for a bit but he was just so fucking hard lol
Strange is like Magneto’s difficulty but “mirrored” in a sense: instead of his neutral game requiring a lot of time to master and his combos being relatively simple for anyone with above average execution, it’s the other way around. Strange’s neutral game is just putting projectiles onscreen and fishing for throws and Impact Palm hits with the occasional teleport+assist to keep the opponent in check. For the most part, he stays on the ground. It gets way more fun once you get the opponent in the corner, then you can lock them down with whatever assists or tools you have (like Eye of Agamotto, or Cold Star assist), get a crumple, then ToD everything that moves with the Faltine loop.
Faltine loop might be easier for Mags players since the best way to get it consistently is by doing an 896 motion after the launcher, which is the same as the one for Magblasts. Corner one should be learned first before the midscreen one (haven’t seen anyone do that yet besides me lol). In a sense, it’s kind of like learning Hyper Grav loop before the ghetto ROM since the fundamentals of learning the former carry over. Overall, Strange struggles in neutral but becomes very scary once he lands a hit. From there, you gotta keep the momentum on your side, because he doesn’t have the easiest time getting it back if things get hairy.
Yo maziooo, you back my nigga!
(btw, does it hurt everytime somebody calls it “the clockwork technology” on stream? It hurts me )
Best teammate for Mag/Weska?
I’d say Wesker/Dante/Magneto or Dante/Wesker/Mags. Any iteration, actually.
Best iteration for a Mag/Dante/Sent team? It seems like the Dante/Mag/Sent would be more powerful but I’m not sure. It’s a pretty Dante-centric team if it’s in that order.
I’m starting to think Magneto/Sentinel/Dante just because Sentinel with Jam Session is hella threatening + feels sorta like Sentinel/Commando + you still get the EMP loop > raw tag into Dante goodness. Dante is a decent anchor (better than Sentinel at least). Dante/Magneto/Sentinel is good too but Dante gets owned at the beginning of the round gambit and Dante DHC into Magneto might not TOD all threats (not too sure). It can really work in any composition, even Sentinel point with EM Disruptor and Jam Session assists is pretty scary.
Dante/Wesker/Magneto and Wesker/Dante/Magneto are both fine. Wesker is better at the beginning of the round gambit but doesn’t TOD whereas Dante point is weaker at the beginning of the round but can set up the Samurai Edge unblockable and kill off a character. Dante/Vergil/Magneto and Wesker/Vergil/Magneto are both stronger than this team composition though.
If you wanna run Wesker/Mag, the strongest team is probably Wesker/Vergil/Magneto. If you wanna be less of a douche, Magneto/Wesker/Akuma.
Thanks for the welcome, feels hella good to be playing Magneto again.
Yo if it ain’t “Marlinpie technology”, it’s that. lol. I got over it soon enough since I knew it was bound to happen, but at least Honzo gave me a shoutout on FGTV for the combo.
what is your sj conversion if you dont mind me asking?
akuma, dante and vergil are all good on the teams in one position or another.
It’s just SoV, XFC, Teleport H, Impact Palm, delay, FoF, Impact Palm, land, dash forward Impact Palm. Kinda hard to get if the opponent is at the peak of SJ height, but the general idea works for most situations anyway.
How does Akuma boost offense for Mags? I would really like to have mags on point.
