MvC3: I'm Doing This For Mutantkind: The Magneto Team Thread

I tried using Mag/Storm/Sent last night but everyone in their mother is using Dante/Zero/Deadpool or X-23 and it seems like I can’t even get my assists out or they’ll eat the damage. Also I need to learn how not to drop my combos with Mag.

yeah i know, im a masochist, ill tell everyone how it works out, but with 5 meters and x-factor, phoenix is a scary azz bitch also, her trap assist is pretty good

Messing around with Mag(B)/Sent(A)/IM(B). Dunno how long that’ll last though haha. Hyper grav after catching someone with IM AAA is fun.

Working on Mags/Doom/Sent

Both Doom’s Rocks and Sent’s Drones help with Mags’ Rushdown. Drones definitely help him to get in a little safer. Also as R00kie mentioned, Doom Rocks/Sent Drones + Cross-Up/Ambiguous Tri-Jump = Aweeeeeesome

I’m playing pretty basic right now (for now). Both the said Assists paired with smart EMDs is a pretty decent keep away tactic.

I’ve seen several players use Mag/Wesk/Sent. Sentinel (drones) for obvious reasons and Wesker for the low hit otg assist for comboing. Instead of using Wesker I’m (for now) using Deadpool in that team with Katana-rama assist since it otg’s and can lead to similar Mag/Wesk combos.

Been mostly playing MSS. :expressionless:

Though I do want to remove Sentinel since I’m not having as much fun with him as I used to in MvC2. Thought of Deadpool, but then that would be too much meter hogging (<3 Gravity Squeeze).

How well does Iron Man work with Magnus/Storm?

Using MSS right now. Magneto She-Hulk Sentinel.
Wanted to stray away from the Wesker train and go for someone who is still a bit underground. Originally had Storm in but she didn’t help me with my idea. General idea for me is “Get hit once and die” for the most part. Scenario:

Start the match with 1 meter, drone assist and disruptor a bit to gain just a weebit of meter then get in there. Hit once and proceed with the j.Fierce dash j.B j.C loop into corner and otg she hulk assist into hyper grav H mag tempest and dhc to Shehulk emerald cannon (and if they have at least 1-1.1mil hp dhc to Sentinels super for 1100000+ dmg.) Has been working quite effectively from my play testing and the combo nets enough meter for the dhc’s. Drone assist to get in and She-hulk help with otg / low assist for shenanigans. Loving this game. OTG really helps Magnetos damage.

Been using Magneto/Dormammu/Storm all alpha assist (distruptah/blackhole/whirlwind)

Storm really helps whenever I need to zone or push people away from him since her assist carries you fullscreen on hit or block.

Dormammus assist is something I’m not quite sure about. It really does help you with your mix up becuase it hits 9 times keeping them blocking long enough to see if they’re blocking low or not and it also masks your tri jumps over them because depending on where you’re standing when you call it, it can pop up in front/behind/right on top of them. The problem is when it hits it adds 9 hits of hitstun decay right off the bat so I’m not sure which combo to go in to. The basic loop combo [j.H, adf M, H] drops pretty quick or puts them in a weird spot where you’re more likely to drop it(maybe I just need to practice hitting the loop off of it). But, then there is the problem that if you time it wrong your launcher will end up grounding them cause the hole still has hits left or you can whiff the launcher all together and get punished.

The team can all DHC really well off of his basic loop for a 900k+ combo too.

I’ve been debating between Mags/Dante/Sent and Mags/Wesker/Sent(really uncommon choices, I know :rolleyes:), and I’m not sure which is better, what do you guys prefer and why?

It seems like Dante’s assist can help turn a cr.ABC on block into another mixup or just for pressure in general, but Wesker gives Mags a reasonably good unblockable and extra damage with the OTG assist. And I can’t decide who’s better between Dante and Wesker as point either. Halp?

I’m digging Mag/Ironman/Wolverine. There’s some intense rushdown in that team.

It’s been said, but Mags/Wesker/Sent is really good.

Mags/Wesker/Sent
Mags/Wesker/Doom

etc etc.

I’ve been using Viper/Wolverine/Magneto, but havent had the time to test Viper’s seismo assist to see if it OTGs. I know I can look it up elsewhere, but I really want to experiment with it myself. I’ll test it out sometime today since I have a bit of spare time and tell you guys what I came up with for it.

I really like an OTG assist. Been using X23 in the third slot, but her DHC options are pretty weak. As a character she is fun, but benefits from a direct frontal assist to start up her mirage dash side mixups. Her assist doubles as a low as well. I’ll have to investigate if i can set up situations with box jump for unblockables, even though there wouldn’t be much to cover my approach. It could be useful when storm gets in there, for Up UP H overheads.

Sent is obviously a cool choice using rocket punch, and his DHC options are great. You have to give up drone assist, but since it was never my plan to play a zoning team, this doesn’t matter. I can find other assists to start my mixup. Even if i had him in the 3rd slot and used his drone assist to cover my approach into the fight it might work. Could work decently with x23 on point if i late side switched with mirage.

Dante is not a bad choice either, but I have yet to actually use his OTG assist, even though I am sure it would be good. Gotta test how his DHC’s work with Mag/storm/sent options.

as for 3rd chars:
Storm is cool, but I’m not sure I grasp her point character play very well, which surely will come into play. Her jump cancel combos on the ground are still somewhat foreign to me and like to whiff on smaller characters. I need to really figure out what works consistently. But the hailstorm is good as DHC and typhoon are pretty cool with x23 mirage mixups.

I like Doom a lot too. Rocks and hidden missiles are both pretty cool. Rocks could pair well with a point char who has an OTG of his own, but since mag doesn’t I don’t see the connection there. Missiles are in general good for making them block. But i’d almost rather have a direct attack of some sort to force side to side mixups. His DHC options are also pretty lacking when not near the corner.

So, assuming Mag and X23 with OTG/Low Assist… I need a 3rd. Needs a decent approach/mixup assist that hopefully stays out for a bit, and hopefully some decent DHC options. bonus points for it being a point character that can combo it supers easily by themselves that are decent to DHC from into Mag/X23. I also need some stamina on my team, as both X23 and Mag are on the lower side.

I’m in the same boat. I feel like the biggest problem is that there isn’t much that replaces drones. I’m going to to mess with Chun a bit but she doesnt DHC into the other 2 like Sent does. Amaterasu and Cold Star may be an acceptable replacement for a lockdown assist but I, personally, haven’t been able to use it with any effect.

Little trap I figured out with Mag/Trish.

Get a hard knock down and fly up to the grounded body, before they get up do Trish’s peakaboo assist [Beta] and when they get up, use force field. If they pretty much do anything without invincibility they get tagged by something and the assist trap holds them in place for free punish. It forces them to block, so on the next go around, call out Trish’s assist again and if they block, you can just grab them for free. Of course random supers will beat this.

Don’t do this against grapplers

Also, after mags j.C adf j.B,j.C BnB in the corner you can do Light hyper grav into snap back, while holding trish assist and when they come in, do round trip, mix-up, profit.

I been using magneto/wesker/super scrull big rush down and keep away opportunnitys super scrull tenedenizer assist works wonder for magneto and his mixups.
