it’s early on in the game’s life. characters who require little effort and learning to win because they have strong basic tools are gonna rule hard, but in general i think stuff will turn out different. especially with capcom’s ‘nerf characters people complain about into oblivion’ method haha
i think spidey is really really strong, his damage potential, mixup and movement game are high enough to be far more legit than a lot of other chars
also it helps a bunch that he teams up incredibly well with the really good characters w/ really good assists haha
Well, Spider-man was never a commonly played character…the only ‘famous’ players that I remember messing with him were Rahsaan and Daniel. The forum definetly lost a lot of the heat, but I think that’s expected after launch.
Anyway, I think he’s very viable. Since someone quoted Viscant’s opinion, he also mentions that because the damage in this game is so high everybody has a chance in any matchup. Yeah there are easier and possibly better alternatives to Spider-man who can do everything he does and more, but he can still work because he has (I could be wrong here) the highest damage in the game without meter and probably the only character who can touch of death people without X-Factor and only one bar. Also, he’s possibly the closest thing to a counter to a Phoenix team, and that alone puts him a prime spot in the metagame.
On a sidenote, I think our chances of getting Venom are slim to none, because people want Eddy Brock Venom and Marvel will most likely go for Flash Thompson Venom which looks a lot like Spidey. Plus there’s the whole Doc Oc thing with the files on the disc, so that might be a franchise overkill, dunno (though the X-Men have a huge portion of the cast in lol).
If Venom is in and stronger than I’ll have him wrecking shit. If Juggs is in the game I’ll pair him and Venom up and cause more chaos with probably Sentinel as the third. One thing I am hoping they do is for certain characters use the other half of their moves that were omitted for example spidey’s c:m: should be replaced with his c.mp animation from earlier VS. games and should be a low far hitting poking since it does actually reach further. Also they should add super jump canceling which would GREATLY help Spidey’s offensive pressure. Damn I miss MvC2.
Edit: Franchise overkill is the Xmen as you said :lol: but even Nitsuma wants Brock in so if we get Venom I think it would be him with obvious alternate colors and outfits. Marvel fucked up with what they did to Venom.
On the topic of the new movie, the trailer looks fucking SWEET! Spidey jumping from rooftops and wall crawling and then shooting his web in first person view is fucking awesome. This is a leaked trailer which was only posted a few minutes ago so therefore it’ll be in low quality:

Alright, I know Robo-mitsu is probably hyped as hell for Strider, seeing as that his avatar was R.I.P. Strider for a good eternity. Anyone else super hyped for these new characters that they may drop your neighborhood hero? Also, been getting a metric fuckton of friendlies in with Kajoq, so my Spidey has been leveling up like the Rare Candy glitch. My issue, however, is getting better with the rest of my team. XD I’ve spent too much time with this one character… Like a 500:1 ratio.
Awww man. This is everything I hoped it WOULDN’T be. A ‘dark’, ‘edgy’, re-telling that tries to make Spiderman ‘gritty’. God dammit. Well I don’t know what comics you’ve been reading but I always thought the major theme of the Spider-man comics was the trouble that Peter Parker went through eg Gwen’s death, money problems, Harry Osborn, Clone Saga, Venom etc. The dark tone fits Spider-man perfectly IMO.
Spiderman? Spiderman dark? He’s not Batman. He’s a goofy, wisecrackin hero. Obviously there are dramatic events in a superhero comic, but the heart and soul of the character is that he’s a flamboyant wise guy who cracks jokes as he saves the day.
And, yet, they failed to show that side of Spider-man in the last 3 movies too. =( I don’t think they’ll ever do that for him unless they get a smartass, comical actor behind that mask.
Yeah, Tobey Maguire was a great Peter Parker, but a poor Spiderman. He never was the guy to deliver lines like “it’s you who’s out Gobby, out of your MIND!”.
I’m pretty sure spidey is going to have wise cracks in this movie along with the troubles of Peter Parker seeing as Marc Webb seems to know his shit. How is that really different from the comics?
I’m excited for the movie because they are actually telling why he’s living with his aunt and uncle amongst adding Gwen instead of MJ. I think they will do well with this series. Would be interesting if they add black cat in the mix down the road.
As for the new mvc I’m hyped and disappointed. Hopefully strider is good but he was hella nerfed. The whole essence of orbs was nerfed before the first installment was out. There is no assist that’s slow enough with enough chip damage and orbs have a bigger circle around strider so already less chippage. Plus he now only has three reprinted. We will see what happens. Spidey looks like his web zip start up sped up. That would be awesome. I hope he also gets a new move plus costumes
Hey Xero where did you see that (Spidey’s webzip being faster)? I watched the whole ustream yesterday and the assholes wouldn’t choose spidey so could not see what changes were made with him.
Anyway, here’s hoping capcom don’t discover you can get multiple webthrows in a combo, otherwise they will make it scale.

His web ball assist I saw a noob use on the stream seems to start up faster. Also, hope the scaling doesnt effect the ‘capture time’, like it did in vanilla mvc…that made it totally useless late in combos or in assist combos.
Man, if those buffs, like faster web zip, are true, COMBINE with that with air x-factor, and Spidey will be an OP character! Justin and floe maining Spidey in ultimate, calling it now!! (That would actually piss me off)

Also, we need a General Discussion thread so I can bitch about how one of my best friends got yellow carded today for a Smash tournament that happened a couple weeks ago. The reasoning was “Bracket Manipulation” when him and the person he was to play decided to split the top 2 pot when they had ALREADY made it Grand Finals. They still played a legitimate set and my friend won because he has consistently beaten the other player in almost every set they have played before. The only thing that splitting the pot changed is how much money each of them had in their pockets at the end of their day. OH, AND TO MAKE THINGS BETTER, IT WAS A FUCKING 10 MAN BRACKET AT A KENTUCKY TOURNAMENT.
Y’all may think it’s stupid for me to be upset over a tournament for a “bad” game, but nothing makes me more upset than when someone is assaulted by false accusations.
Edit: Ok, so it’s not a false accusation, but splitting at ANY time is considered Bracket Manipulation… bullshit.
