MvC3: Final Justice! The Captain America Thread

Weirdly I get hyped more about this things instead of seeing new hypers and stuff.

Would’ve been manlier if he had just punched the rock off of him. And if the rock was Hitler.

So besides the returning Shield Slash has Cap received any other really notable buffs?

Me too. At school we typically have low-tier games going on, and I love beasting with Cap. You need some good assists to keep up with some of the other characters though.

So Chris is manlier?

No, it’s not weird, and I felt the same way because it’s one of the first signs of a solid combo that doesn’t follow the formulaic pattern of ground hits, launcher, air hits, knockdown, OTG (maybe a relaunch), super.

Okay brother.

Civil War.

Enuff Said.

Civil War was a terrible story that had him & Tony acting massively out of character so Caps side could be shown as the only one that could be completely & totally correct.

This, was a kickass little combo, especially since it was a real combo, no offense to flashy level 3 animations.

For reference I think we’re referring to

That is indeed the combo we were talking about.

I don’t think anything in that storyline was massively out of character actually. Neither side was completely and totally correct at all, but both sides believed what they were fighting for was right, just like any other war. Cap was actually the one to surrender in the end. It was pretty clear he knew he didn’t handle things correctly.

Exactly what I thought.

For anybody who has used Captain America, has anybody tried checking if anything about his moveset gets altered for the brief time he doesn’t have his shield after throwing it? Is it like the previous games where he gets some slightly different normals but can still perform all his specials/supers (with altered attributes), or something else? Most of the vids I’ve been watching from NYCC rarely show anybody attacking while the shield is on the way back, so I don’t know if you can even perform specials/supers without it.

So in a game that is said to be favoring keep away I was wondering why Cap A wasn’t being discussed more as the natural foil for getting in on players? Cap A was always my favorite/main from the Marvel series, and although I’ve never played competitively I always found ways to surprise veterans by getting through keep away with his tools. Cap A is rarely talked about in threads about who is a strong character and I can’t help but wonder if he is being overlooked?

First off a little bit of what I’ve noticed:

Cap has an air dash. Forwards and backwards. It goes straight and isn’t the fastest, but it isn’t a terrible air dash, especially with the big sweeping shield attack that was his heavy punch. This is new.

Cap can still double jump! (See: within the first 15 seconds.) This is something I don’t think has been talked about at all. If Cap A can double jump then air dash, or jump, air dash then jump again, he has incredibly understated air mobility and will be able to juke in the air like nobody’s business. It is possible he may only have the option of one per jump, but even still, that’s an option many characters don’t have. That’s not even touching on possible new combos with assists or with his own boomerang shield.

Cartwheel still has invulnerability to all but throws as far as I can tell (I have no playtest experience, so if I’m wrong I apologize), and covers even more ground than ever before. With an assist to make it safe Cap may be able to cartwheel through fields of traps/projectiles and get in close in a way no one else can. This will be especially true if they’re constantly jumping in order to fire projectiles downwards. Cartwheel can also be used with well timed assists to create crossup opportunities that most characters could only dream of. This could be even more devastating if you kara cancel the cartwheel to trick someone into continuing to block before cartwheeling around them and crossing up their block with your assist.

Charging Star eats up projectiles (though I can’t find a video with it shown explicitly I imagine this is the case), is faster, and covers ground very well too. It is punishable on block, but a projectile assist can help make it safe, like cartwheel. This is another way to get in on keepaway characters, and to make it better you can use it as an assist to push in on another character. It’s also been demonstrated to be otg comboable after hitting with charging star in some cases, opening huge opportunities.

The new shield slash is probably something that will be worth its own thread in time, the style of combos it opens up (even more with assists) will be incredible. It may even be able to function as an assist to open up similar combos for other characters.

And speaking of assists, Cap A has 3 highly desirable assists when off-point, which could be tailored to help counterpick your opponent’s team without changing characters. Anti-projectile, anti-air, and pressure/combo extension, all of which are good or great.

And finally the last thing I haven’t seen talked about, and although it might be a gimmick I have to wonder at the possibilities. And that is the X factor. What if Cap A can cancel cartwheel at any point with X factor? Could it be used as an instantly cancelable invulnerable dash? How fast is cartwheel with X factor? What about X factoring out of a blocked charging star to make it safe? What if every charging star is safe during X factor? Even if pushblock were to push Cap A across the stage would he be able to get back in with a Charging Star or Cartwheel almost instantly?

Hopefully someone with some playtest experience, or someone who will be playtesting soon, can shine some light on some of these questions. I really hope to see Cap A taking a strong role in the game. Even though I doubt I could ever compete at a tourney level I’d sure love to see him appear and compete as a spectator.

Pretty sure Cap has no AD or DJ…you’re lookin at some pretty old videos mang. It’s changed a lot. D:

Cap’s not as big on rushdown as X-23 or Wesker are. They, as of now, are two of the best rushdown characters so far, most likely THE best.

Pretty sketchy to label two characters we haven’t even had playtime with as the best. Quite possibly right, but the good Caps I saw at NYCC’s streams and videos looked pretty legit.

Eh, just theoryfightin from what we know. I can’t stop. >_<

I haven’t seen much use of Hyper Charging Star to get through projectile supers, but he looks like he can definitely .

Apparently he didn’t realize double hit shield slash can be followed up with kara-Charging Star or st.rh > charging star ( depending on range ). Can do it from low air combos too.

Civil War was crap. Please don’t stand up for it. Also , that surrender BS move Captain did. The reason why he did it was because he was going to rip Tony’s fuckin head off. Throughout all seven of those books , Tony completely antagonizes the living shit out of him and anytime Cap can finally do something Tony finds some way to counter it. Near the end of the book Captain breaks Tony’s Suit right in the chest. Don’t even TRY to say he didn’t know how to handle that.

If you said , he didn’t want a war to break out. I would accept that answer , but he knew what he was doing. Making Steve Roger’s die after those events where he goes to jail from the war and then comes out and gets sniped out. That was a fuckin spit on Captain America and Marvel in general. One of the worst endings ever.

Also Tony Stark over the past few years has become so towards being a villian with the whole government thing (think that’s what he meant) , the Iron Man movie was like a reboot of his former glory, now they’re doing that heroic age and Stark is all good again.

You know how in Comic Books , they say “they never let a good character die”. That’s why Steve was brought back through that BS storyline of the space time continium or whatever. Bucky is still (as bad ass as he is) is pretty much hated as the new Captain. Steve HAD to come back , he IS Captain America. Plus they obviously failed with Civil War. I was just at the NY Comic Con and I literally got into a HUGE conversation with some people about how much Civil War sucked. lol sorry.

World War Hulk and followups is worse =/… Just sayin’.
