Hey guys! Long time lurker, finally coming out now that umvc is out!
Anyways, I think cap is reallllyyy improved in this game. His bnb’s do an easy 700k even with all the hitstun decay, and his mobility has gotten a lot better cuz of the double jump. I’ve noticed that you can do a double overhead with j.mp then down j.hp. nice gimmick?
Anyways, my day-1 team is cap, vergil, and hawkeye. I think this team has an insane amount of synergy. in the corner, cap essentially becomes “wesker-like” with all the options he has. after an otg, you can do vergil’s assist to either go into a launcher, jab to reset, or a cartwheel. Also, after a hyper charging star you can dhc into vergil’s ouroborous, leading to crazy mixups. I use hawkeye’s horizontal arrow assist to move around the screen better.
A bonus note of this team is that the team dhc does around 700k damage. What do you guys think?

what it psycologically that makes us all play Hawkeye!? I’m having trouble keeping people out but I’m happy there is an advanced character in this sea of Wesker.

My hawkeye is coming along nicely actually. . . .played about 115 matches last night with my friend and I started doing really well. . . . .its only a matter of time before I am the best Hawkeye in all the land!

My hawkeye is awful LOL working on cap for now - hawkeye is confusing for me i just gotta sit down and play him for a while

Same here, Thor seems the least I’ll have adjustments to make so I’ll get to him last. Tony/Steve are whole new characters, my old combos with them are inefficient lol. This week I’m just gonna sit down with Steve, followed by Clint and finally Tony.

Side note, I’m seeing some possible tricks with hawkeyes command jumps/dash for opening people up with grabs. Thoughts?

I’d love to play avengers but I don’t care for tony, hulk, or thor. Storm should get honerable mention.

I got the game mostly because of Tony, followed closely by Steve, and Thor was the seal of approval. Clint being announced for this one already sold me lol.

Btw there are other characters that are avengers in the game; iron fist, she-hulk, logan, spiderman, dr. strange, and nova (though he was just part of caps black ops).

The Avengers Assemble line is reserved for consistent core members from what I understand. It would lose its meaning if it applied to half the cast lol.

In my opinion Steve is a tweaked character…Tony is a whole new ballgame!!! I was super worried about his airdash changes when I first saw/read them. Now that I’ve had my hands on it for 2 days, and had some time to think about it…I think I’d take umvc3 over mvc3 Tony ALL DAY! The airdash change to me is no longer a nerf, but a MEGATON buff if you play him with space control in mind (which you should anyway).

You can’t rush down the same as before, but you can still very much get in there on people. You really don’t even need to worry about that though because you can use his j.S and j.H (d.H) to make people’s lives hell! I can’t even believe how good his space control is now…you almost don’t even need combos with him anymore.

Anyway, as for my main man Steve! His faster walk speed is SWEET, the changes to Charging Star M/H are excellent though they take a little getting used to. His otg is freakin epic in amazingness…but most importantly (even over the cartwheel), that damn double jump is a game changer. Mobility up soldier! :smiley:

I’ve messed with Hawkeye only a little bit (and Nova), but I’m spending the majority of my time testing the validity of my old team (Cap/Spencer/IronMan). It just might be time to start holding tryouts for the 2nd slot though if Cap stays on point.

Spencer is absolutely freaking amazingly sweet in this version (loved him before, but he’s just sick now), but with the nerfs to shield slash combos…his only purpose on the team now is to give me that mixup on an incoming character or a random anti air. Neither do I think are worth using a slot for, so unless I change the order of the team permantly swapping Spencer and Cap (good order then), there just has to be a change.

I’m still trying to decide what I think is the next most important part to making a successful Cap, but I haven’t decided which hole to fill next yet. Either way it’s going to be a lot of work, cuz that’ll mean learning a new guy in depth.

With as much damage as Cap can do solo, I honestly don’t think I care much anymore about having an assist to help extend combos. I’d rather have either the space control/lockdown or mixup option instead. Of course Clint comes to mind since whoever it is must work well with Iron Man as assist, and as an assist for him.

I’ve not done much combo work at all yet, so my BnB with Cap is ‘only’ roughly 750k (measured from a c.L starter as usual).

My Spencer team is still the same (Spencer/Iron Man/Doom) and looking good though I’ve still got a lot of adjusting with them. My Iron Man team is unsure though still good (Iron Man/Chris/Doom)…that one may change as well, but we’ll see.

Doing some tests, Cap cannot go through seven rings of ragadorr once it has been activated. Nothing really stops it since it also has 114 frames of invincibility once it’s activated, in otherwords the whole beam duration is invincible. Coupled with 14 frames of start up invincibility.

Going to keep conducting tests with cap. Next up genmu zero and grenade super.

Cap can’t go through any of ghost riders chain attacks nor grenade launcher super. Last is genmu zero

EDIT: Can’t go through genmu zero either, but Gimlet can pierce through chris’ grenade super

I finally confirmed something that I was thinking since the day I heard about air xfactor. Its pretty much cancelling L. Stars and Stripes on hit with air xfactor. Then following that up with a combo. Something like:

L. S&S XFC, j.M, down+ j.H, S (land) cr.LMHS, sj.MMH :u: sj.MMS otg L. Shield Slash, S(relaunch) (delay) S,
otg L. Shield Slash xx Hyper Charging Star(full mash).

Damage: 1,112,900

Done it with lvl1 xfactor on Nemesis and Chun Li. I’ll have to check for xf lvl 2/3 as well as M and H Stars and Stripes later. What I was thinking is to use a j. H Shield Slash to bring them down after you connect S&S xfc.

Day 3 Combos:
cr.l>cr.m>cr.h>s>j.m>j.h>doublejump>j.m>j.h>s>L.SS>dash>st.h>s>j.m>j.m>j.h>s>SLIGHT backdash>L.SS>h.CS>HCS/FJ=717k/940k approx.

Also I discovered new anti-beam technology. I would only use this if you want to avoid blocking full screen beam or if they catch you with your pants down, HCS regardless of the beam into Gimlet will beat out beams, yes the projectiles trade but the trade is in your favour.

Nice findings dude. I’ve been experimenting with similar things using Hyper S+S since it seems to just destroy anything as a reversal. Most of it isn’t worth the trouble though so I just DHC.

Yeah I’ve used HS&S in that same way a couple times. But with XF instead of just dhc’s. Of course I’d have to use dhc’s once xfactor is gone but at least you’re guaranteed one(two with luck) dead character with it.

Most of the time I catch a character and assist and once I see one or two hits I xfactor add on a ground chain then continue with my combo of choice.

Air XF helps Cap so much. x_x

All this Cap hype got me to rewatch the First Avenger again. God Hydra is so badass, they need to include Baron von Strucker as a dlc character. Hydra needs an actual presence in this game they’re already in the background of the SHIELD helicarrier.

Anyone besides me shocked by how fast they figured out the new Captain America? I know I am.

Well I’m ready to ragequit training mode. Yesterday I was doing a BnB from the Brady guide (combo 1) with ease, today it’s the exact opposite. I’m starting with c.L, st.M, cr.H, H shield slash, and when I jump up to land the u.H I whiff. I was doing it fine yesterday, I can’t figure it out. Is this character specific, or am I doing something wrong? :frowning:

I was having the exact same issue, last night. I have yet to figure it out. Since I’m at work and cannot try it for myself, is the hit stun after the returning shield hit long enough so that you can delay the jumping u.H for a moment before trying it?
