MvC3: Final Justice! The Captain America Thread

Or… just go on dustloop.com and find him there sicne he simply goes by the name of Dacidbro.

EDIT: You’ll find him in the Bang sub-forums easily.

In the interest of having the UMvC3 character threads be as awesome as possible, I am posting here to offer up my current Ultimate Dormammu Thread as a base skeleton to anyone who intends to manage a character thread, or something similar, in Ultimate. It is currently stripped of information, and will remain so until about a week before release. I am not attempting to toot my own horn, but rather offer to others what took me quite a bit of work to do, so that those who would rather not spend the time on such things do not have to.

I have received a lot of compliments to-date about the structure, and a few people have requested permission to use its structure for UMvC3, so I thought I would go around and make the offer to others who might not be aware that someone out there has already done the grunt work for them (haha). Because I am posting this in all the character forums, and this is time consuming on its own, I have not taken the time to check for how developed the thread I am posting on current is. Thus, I ask that no one be offended at my suggestion if your character forum is well constituted already - I mean no intrusion upon your methodologies!

Here is a link to the thread blueprint:

You can get an example of what it looks like when filled out here:

You are of course entirely welcome to change whatever you like if you want to incorporate this structure into your own thread. I have all of my posts saved as Word documents on my computer. If you would like these documents instead of having to copy/paste from the main threads, please feel free to PM me your email address, along with the character thread they will be used for, and I will gladly send them.

Highest Regards to All,
Karst

Thanks, I think this thread could be made by a collective effort of me gimpy and ken (and anyone else who wants to contribute). We would first need to know who wants to contribute.

Anyone wanna help?

We ran a FT10 this time and it was TENSE. Probably the best games we’ve had yet and we have a lot of people here to thank for that so do please check it out and let us know what you think. We’re on PSN and welcoming all challengers who want to give it a shot an get their game uploaded in beautiful 720p. Posting this in a couple of places so apologies if its a little spammy and I will edit if requested.

Buy the guide, and provide me info I guess. You’re less poverty than me if I remember correctly.

You’re making a video breakdown?

The future, the American way.

Double post sorry, dealwithit.gif

Wow that is significant improvement. You Steve Rogers is way better than the last video you posted here, I almost can’t believe how much and fast you improves. But I do have some suggestions still.

Don’t be afraid to cancel into super, Cap builds meter really well, so don’t be afraid to cancel into HCS. It’s not so much about damage but the psychological affect, of being afraid of being hit by that. Also if Wesker is in your fast, don’t be afraid to stick out a cr.l, it’s 4 frames, DON’T throw out cr.h way too slow he has enough time to jump over you and land a falling s. The way you played against Gouki with cap impressed me very solid play, good spacing, good use of both specials and normals as well as assists. You didn’t hesitate to punish his random beam supers and nor did you do anything random outside of a CS which you cancelled into HCS without hesitation.

Your TONY STARK, I have a problems with. I feel like he’s on your team to take in damage and die. LMHS standard does not work with Tony. I understand your dilemna with tony because I’ve been there where he is your weakest link, but Once you figure out how to use him he could easily become your anchor instead of deadpool. One of my biggest problems I see with your Iron Man was your COMPLETE lack of use for his projectiles while you’re playing. The only thing I saw you do was a weak rushdown on WESKER of all characters in his inevitable death. Wesker should NOT be rushed by anyone on your time, there’s a reason he’s hated. It’s because he’s a brain dead rushdown character, all of his normals on block are somewhere around neutral plus or minus. You CANNOT rush him down with Iron Man of all characters with his terrible launcher. Here are my suggestions

  1. I feel that iron man players need to learn to use repulsor blast more. The move covers ALL angles of Iron man, as we all know in this game, it’s all about near-impossible-to-block-crossups as “pro strategies” (or braindead). Repulsor blast hits behind you and allows you to catch opponents off guard, and if you have meter and xfc that coudl easily lead into a dead character without even having to do a full combo. Because of repulsor spread, repulsor blast is Tony’s safest move, because it pushes the opponent back even IF they block it. Repulsor blast will allow you to catch those rushdown-cross up shenanigans and punsih them for it. Why do you have to rush down with Iron Man, you have projectiles for a reason. When you see him fight in the movies, he’s usually just firin’ his laserz, start emulating that. Use :m: and :h: (preferrably :m: when firing it at random).

  2. Start using unibeam from full screen, there’s not much that can punish it, even characters that have beam supers. As long as you don’t use unibeam as a preditable spamming attack, they can’t really punish it and, once again, if you have meter you become a threat (Iron Avenger), which can be cancelled into from unibeam from almost full screen. Like I said keep unibeam to full screen, very hard to punish. Try to use medium unibeam since it usually beats out fire balls and hits the opponent a little bit.

  3. Make better use of double jump and j.heavy. This move as HUGE range, and when pointing down, is as good as Steve’s j.down heavy. Trust me on this one, make it harder to predict when your Iron Man is landing and use your double jump ESPECIALLY on block more often, it’ll land you a hit, which you can convert into damage or not or allow you to chip down your opponents health. Very useful, for keeping people out, especially with characters who have dumb AA launchers, Iron Man’s heavy will typically beat them out.

  4. FlyingVe has a tutorial, you should go check it out. To further increase your landing ambiguity, start using :m: and :h: smart bomb, you’ll be surprised how often it’ll land and do some damage to your opponent. It’ll also open your opponent to you rushing down since either, they’ll get hit so all you have to do is hit confirm, or they’re blocking which means they’re susceptible to your “high-low” mixup.

  5. Learn this combo; cr.:l:>cr.:m:>st.:h:>:l:repulsor blast>cr.:m:>st.:h:>:s:. LEARN THAT, memorize it, make it part of your body and very existence. This is the Iron Man combo I use, it’s in eventhubs “Iron Man Reveal Trailer” (which is where I originally saw it). It’s a slightly tricky combo, I’m not even sure how much damage you can net from it but, it’s VERY safe. As I am rarely punished for doing it, many of the Cap players here also run Iron Man since they’re a low key dynamic duo in this game. They compliment each other perfectly. But Iron Man has a MUCH higher learning curve than most characters, including Cap. Which a lot of players don’t bother to go over, but because of that, Iron Man in most teams is basically just an assist and once he’s out, players are like a fish out of water. because they don’t know what to do with Iron Man and die, since he has no ezmode button. You need to find a way to cover up his launcher since it is TERRIBLE, which is the problem of a lot of people. This combo completely covers you, since you’ll never really be able to press launcher on block since your block string ends with repulsor blast which you cancel into spread (when you feel the time is right). So as I said learn that combo, and make use of my other tips above.

Iron man can run away, you just have to know how, Iron Man can RTSD, you just have to know how, Iron Man can zone you just have to know how, Iron Man can be a legit threat as an anchor with meter, you just have to know how to make him that. You need to just sit in training mode with his just him to figure it out, you can’t dedicate the same amount of time you used to learn Steve and apply it to Tony and think you can learn him. He’s a lot trickier with a lot more depth (no I’m not saying Steve is boring, but he’s a lot easier to use, you know it’s true). With that said I hope my info will help you level up your Iron Man. He went from the worse guy on my team, to being scary with xfc lvl 3. You just need to learn how he works, which isn’t straight forward.

Oh yea, abstain from using SS with Cap against Gouki. As you saw you’ll most likely just eat stupid damage.

Sorry for the long Iron Man write up guys, but I know there’s quite a few of you who use him and you’re stumped in terms of making better us of him.

I’ve only finished part 1 so far, but there is a significant improvement this week compared to last. While they’re on my mind a few quick points before I write you another book (w/o deleting it this time )

  1. Wesker is one of if not THE most powerful characters in the game…when he has you cornered. You powered him up yourself in almost every fight in part one!

Stop walking yourself to the corner to die lol. Wesker’s mixups nearly ALL revolve around doing a combo on you, which ends with you in the corner, an otg gunshot into a 50/50 mixup. A single wrong guess, and you’re dead if they’re a good Albert. Hopefully he’s not reading this (yet lol), but he’s not pushing you into the corner himself…that means you have no immediate thread besides his assist.

  1. PRACTICE THE TK SHIELD SLASH AND USE IT NOW!!!

lol, I can’t stress to you how much better it is than the normal jump L.shield slash. for zoning people and poking for a combo

  1. No Loader is CONTINUALLY using the H teleport (above your head) after almost every blockstring he does…remember than, and be ready for it!

  2. He keep calling his assist from a fairly long distance away, and then trying to teleport behind you.

Learn Weskers range on his teleport (he usually does ground which is the L teleport) so that you can keep enough distance to make sure he’s in front of you instead…mixup ended. More later

  1. Your Stark…is almost offensive…but we’ll fix that. ( already told you I’d help with that, even put in training time myself to make up some stuff)

Okay I’d watch the rest, and love to comment more, but some short woman said she’s hungry and her break is at 7 (not to be confused with 8 which I was supposed to be there for lol).

Kei <---- is pronounced K

Yeah these are some good matches but there are a few points i must touch on.

  1. When catching an assist in a super jump combo always do UP TAC at the end to avoid being punished. The assist will go high up and you will be able to block. And if your lucky you could catch it on the way back down and continue the combo!

  2. Practice this magic series : L,M,H,Ironman assist,S, Cartwheel. That should be your best friend. After the S you will be vulnerable but the assist will cover you just in time for you to cartwheel and keep the pressure! If they pushblock it will still be effective because the assist will lock them down long enough for you to get back and do it again!

  3. Jump back Down H is your best friend! Use it until you cant use it anymore lol literally, it is too good!

  4. Learn his mixups and BLOCK! lol When people play MvC3 they forget how to block and they get tagged a lot. When you are facing ANYBODY remember this chronological order of how their brain works. First, they will try their best mixup on you, the one that “never fails”. Its gonna be a hard mixup but if you block it, it virtually mind (excuse my language) fucks the opponent for like 1 second. Then second directly after they try an easier mixup that is wayy easier to block, and if you block that, THEN that is your opening. After the second mixup the opponent will ALWAYS take a second to think “wow this guy is good at blocking, oh no!” Then Thats when you strike! If you remember those simple steps your Cap skill will grow exponentially! I’m telling you, it works every time.

  5. Like kei said TK Shield slash is your best friend

  6. The best ground normal that cap has is his Cr. L. It is the exact same light that Taskmaster has, so we should be able to spam it like taskmasters do right??! So one of the best things to do is when someone is blocking do a cr. L then wait a half a second and do another one, but this time do the full series. I guarantee you’ll get some more hits off of that.

Lastly, Have fun! When you ask some of the best players in the why they play their game, you get the same answer, “Cuz its fun!”. Sometimes its best to not stress over what you have done wrong and what you should have done, but its best to look at what you’ve done right. Your Cap is getting pretty good, and you should just keep playing and having fun, and I guarantee your skill will naturally increase. Also thanks for all the footage, watching these really helps me kill a couple of minutes whenever I feel like I need some Steve Rogers in my life LOL!

  • Captain AmeriKen

Oh yes I am. . . .and it is gonna be sick! Stay tuned guys

Guys thank you so much for all the feedback. I am going to incorporate it all and take it all on board. This was my day one team minus deadpool for Ryu (lol), and Iron man has always been tricky. I felt like I had come a long way with him and enjoy playing him but I know that he is a weak link, but the synergy between him an the cap is good. However I am now contemplating switching him out for Spencer.

I have wanted to give Spencer some serious game time to see what he can do and I know that SS assist aids Spencer quite a bit, it does however mean that Cap loses IM, seeing as DP is probably my strongest character and has the OTG assist he’s gotta stay. So if anyone wants to lend me a hand with Spencer and show me where I should begin that would rock, as next week I’m gonna rock him out again NoLoader and see how I do.

Regards, and thanks again!

So how bout them new alternate costumes?

Noticing a lack of green :frowning:

Although overall his alternates look great in my opinion. Loving the Age of X one in particular.

Having 3 with American color schemes (or at least 2 and a half) should please Gimpy also.

Edit: I just noticed I have been lurking way too much lately. I could have sworn I posted here before Evo :l

No more ugly to the point of being offensive green or anti-american red? More red/white/blue options that are all great? Unique ultimate and space themed costumes?

Yeah Im down. That green was the worst. Yes offense. LOL

Yea, it was pretty awful, but I had a joke amongst my friends that my team always ended up having green colors. Now I have to switch to white or have some sort of multi-colored American Setup. lol

I am gonna be rocking the age of x costume from day 1. It looks wayy too good lol

I’m definitly feeling that Bucky alt, I like the black mix. I also have to try the space avengers for giggles at least once.
