Yeah, Cap is getting a little overlooked in favor of other characters. I’ve chalked it up to simply playing and testing out what he’s got when the game gets in my hands.
I don’t think the Cartwheel has any invincibility at all, though.

His carthweel passes through people, correct? It should be great when they are blocking a lockdown assist like Chun’s
Not having played marvel before it’s difficult for me to adjust to the idea that unsafe moves can easily be made safe and effective through assist moves.
I was thinking that w/o invulnerability that move wouldn’t be so great - but that assist thought sounded like a great idea

What I used to do in MvC2 was Cartwheel to my opponent’s back and then throw them. They usually don’t expect the throw. I’m not sure if I’ve seen it, but I hope cartwheel can still go through attacks including projectiles.
Oh man no invincibility on the cartwheel? Major bummer but I’m not gonna give up on the Capt; his style is looking real pleasing right now, I’m excited to start trying him out right off the bat really.
listen up people, i might be goin away for a long time but i want cap to be a tourney regular when i come out. i cant try this out but can someone do it for me when the game launches. if caps an assist pick shield slash and after you kill a foe use it so that the first slash of the shield misses purposely but when the foes comin out the returnin slash can cross him up for an easy sure fire combo. test this out and also test this with cap as a point character throwin the shield slash upward since thats where theyll come out from and possibly callin out an assist to block you. also try this combo out fellow cap players, dash crouch a b c shield slash upwards jump forward b c shield slash downwards land b c e super jump b b c e land call wesker assist(samurai edge, otg that pops up foe) b c chargin star cancel hyper chargin star cancel into x factor or dhc if needed. thats sure to do a shitload of damage! >:)

I’m a newbie to Marvel vs. Capcom but Cap is my favorite Marvel character so I intend to use him. Based on his videos it’s hard for me to decide what kind of character he’ll be, I never played MvC2 or anything so I’m kinda clueless

So the sheild coming back actually crosses up? What happens if you do an assist after you throw the shield that throws stuff from the front?
Like for example you do a blockstring -> throw shield Iron man beam assist
do they both hit at the same time from both sides creating an unblockable? I’m not super familiar with the mvc universe but I’d assume getting hit from both sides at once would be just as unblockable as getting hit high and low at the same time - but I could be way off base here.
I was also wondering if anyone knew if after you throw the shield you have time to DO anything - such as cartwheel or another attack - or are you just locked down moves wise but still a little mobile?
No, in order to block an attack you block in the direction of the point character, the actual direction the projectile is coming from is irrelevant.

caps cross up shield slash has different properties. i noticed on watchin cap vids if you block the shield while its movin forward the cross up can be blocked like a regular fireball. if the forward momentum of the shield misses the return of the shield will definitely cross up. one thing still has me thinkin though. what if you threw the shield and missed purposely but before the returnin shield made contact you went for a combo string or called an assist like ryus hadouken which they blocked will the returnin shield still cross up?

It doesn’t look like you can combo into the double hit shield slash in the corner so you’ll have to do something else to keep the combos running - but I don’t know if every time I’ve seen that it’s been missed timing or if you actually can’t combo it that way.
Any thoughts? Cap may have more fun combos in the mid stage with that shield slash

yeah he cant combo in the corner with shield slash. seen it in other vids too. maybe you can do a standard a b c call akuma assist(hurricane kick) and roll onto the other side so you can shield slash combo. that might work.
yeah comboing into a multihit so that you can cartwheel behind and keep it going sounds like a lot of fun, seems odd to want to point your combos AWAY from a corner haha - maybe he’ll have something better there too though. Comboing into that and into an assist with a cartwheel mixup tagged on the end sounds fun though anyway!
does anyone know anything about charging star going through projectiles? how about HYPER charging star? I’d assume that one would - hopefully it’s invincible and can be used against a couple of those cheesy chips sometimes, x factor out of that stun into hyper eh?

Seeing as how nobody ever posts here I’m going to double post rather than just edit - couple assist questions.
What types of assists do you think would be best? I know we’ve talked about something like a chun lockdown assist for cartwheel shenanigans but would an assist like Thor/iron man/ hulk full screen beam/rock type assists be better because cap isn’t super mobile? You can possibly cartwheel/Kara cartwheel in behind those assists or whoever’s works best in that approach fashion
That sort of getting in wouldn’t be amazing vs every character but I can see it helping a bit at least

I’m thinking any assist that allows you to safely cartwheel mixup during a pressure string would probably be handy. So I’m looking at most multi hitting assists. Throw in some shield returns on top of that and he might have a solid ground game. Closing the distance to do that could be a problem as he really doesn’t have many rushdown tools, especially if charging star doesn’t stop any projectiles.
I tested Cap a few times yesterday and found that Hyper Charging Star goes through some projectiles on startup. It could possibly be used to punish a random super at close range but seems to be asking for a Wesker/Taskmaster counter DHC.
I’m a little pessimistic about Cap’s mobility at the moment. I get the idea that he really means it when he says “I need backup”.
