I would be shocked if any of this was in 2d. I think you guys are dreaming when its obvious that 3d has a much greater market appeal and is cheaper/faster to produce than good 2d hands down.
I welcome change.

I’m dreaming big, but I would love to have the game have more than 10% of its cast tourney/championship viable. No, not gimmicky. Viable.
I have to agree. I think a lot of people are really setting themselves up for a huge dissapointment hoping for a Roster of 50 characters with 2D graphics. Honestly I would say there is near zero chance of the game being in 2D, and the roster will probably be struggling to break 30. I also get the feeling it’s going to play very similar to TVC, but thats something I think could go either way.
I don’t mean to be negative or say thats the way I want it, but thats very much what I’m expecting.
seriously… we havent even seen it yet, we dont know where they are going with it and for all we know it wont even be mvc3. chill out and wait people… i love mvc2 just as much as the next and i am not a huge fan of sf4 (much less tvc) but if it has marvel characters i’ll play it…
again we’ll know soon enough
Im guessin they’re gonna use the TVC style of sprite
TVC was like a beta test of this style on 3d and now they’re gonna do a great job for marvel hopefully :lovin:

Seems legit.
they should just upgrade the TvC engine to 360/ps3 standards for marvel3
So I don’t need to reiterate in regards to the graphical debate I’ll just link to this post = http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=231210&p=8705778&viewfull=1#post8705778
As long as the game uses 2D hit detection / hit boxes and has a good speed then I am not concerned about the game from a gameplay standpoint.
Afterall the gameplay engine coders and programmers are the ones responsible for making the game play right.
The graphical design team simply does the graphical end of it. If the game has issues because of gameplay reasons, Then it’s not the graphical design teams fault. The fault would be entirely at blame of the gameplay programmers.
They are are two different teams doing two different tasks. Just because the game may possibly be in 3D won’t have detrimental effect minding the engine programmers do their job right.
New engine, new mechanics… I highly doubt they will have anywhere near 50 characters. Maybe ~30, if we’re lucky.
What many often forget is that MvC2 was the culmination of every Vs. game to that point, including Marvel Super Heroes and Children of the Atom. In MvC2 there were… what, 11 original characters, out of 56? That’s 45 characters that had previous incarnations in the Vs. and Marvel games. Sure, some sprites were redone, moves added, etc., but when it comes down to it you lost a lot of viability for many characters simply because of the sheer number and balance issues. Plus, it’d be a fuckload of work to make that many characters for a new title.
If Capcom’s proven anything with IV and Super IV it’s that they are really focusing on balance. Sure, there’s still tiers, but nearly every character in IV (and, presumably Super IV) is tournament viable. If, with MvC3, they include too many characters not enough focus is going to go into balance and we’ll end up with another mess. TvC kept it simple with around two dozen characters (on consoles) and, while I can’t speak for balance as I really know very little about that game, it’s certainly a healthy number for a new entry, IMO at least. If we’ve got balance and enjoyability, I’d be comfortable with two dozen characters in MvC3, especially if it’ll be a stepping stone towards MvC4 where we can really GO CRAZY! GO CRazy! crazy…
Edit: If Quicksilver’s linked story is to be believed, then I suppose we’ll be “blown out of the water with the sheer number of characters this game includes (on the disc).” Alright, I can dig it. The more the merrier, right? Just hope it’s at least somewhat balanced and fun.
Gorilla Morrigan = Motherfuckers getting a beatdown.
Blade please
Sounds good to me.
What’s the point of 50+ characters if only a handful are ever used seriously? In my honest opinion, focus on balance.
Meh.
They kinda have to go over the top with the roster otherwise the game will look bad if it’s a step down from it’s predecessor in terms of character numbers, especially as this was one of it’s main selling points to the casual audience.I agree it’s bad though that because of this most of the characters will just be throwaways to pad out the numbers(unless Capcom pull a miracle and somehow everyones viable).
Hopefully they will patch it if there is an outcry of something very broken in it… HOPEFULLY!
JESUS FUCK!!!
Take SF away from me, now take Marvel. I quit fighters. I know this game is going to be like SFIV. Man. FUCK.
Links in Marvel… Hulk Hands Morrigan, stiff slow gameplay. Marvel is fucking ruined. Let the scrubs have it. I quit.
Five bucks says if Sentinel’s in that he’ll have an orange/blue color.
Also, yes, Capcom must balance this shit. If Tekken 6 can have 40 viable characters, then damnit, so should a 2D fighter from Capcom.
Fuck, I hope they don’t do the unlock thing for characters. Gonna be shitty to have to get them all just to set units up for tournaments.
Good stuff!
It’s probably safe to say that the character count in this game is going to be massive, but considering it may be in 2.5D, I find it kinda hard to believe they would have had the time to render every character from Marvel 2 considering they waited until they could gauge Tatsunoko’s success before even considering releasing this one. It might just end up having a larger roster than your average fighter, just maybe not 50+ (but then again, who knows). If it’s on Xbox and PS3, the outside chance exists for future patches if its too broken either way.
All I have to say is - gimme someone from Breath of Fire. I don’t care who at this point. over 10 years of Capcom crossover games and not one BoF representative is just flat-out wrong.
