My only answer to Zero right now is advancing guard, summon Tron, pray he doesn’t go low and then hit-confirm into combo… Zero is a monster. Totally agreed about killing Zero outright, same goes for Mag, DHC trick is a huge help with that.
anybody have any tips for x23 vs zero matchup? i cant seem to beat his normals/punish him, its frustrating as fuck
Well we already had a discussion on it. The best you’ll be able to do probably is call an assist and try to lame him out for a while and see if you can land something. You’re not really going to beat him normal vs. normal that’s pretty much the whole point of him. No character in the game can really beat him normal vs. normal. You pretty much have to catch him whiffing something to hit him but if you do he should immediately be dead or nearly dead after. It helps to have a character to DHC reset into after you combo into Weapon X so you can make sure he’s gone off the screen on a hit. Just push block the hell out of him and jump up if he’s trying to come down on you with a high low so you only have to worry about left right block.
I wish I had more advice but for now I dont really think there is much else advice. Just try to avoid getting hit by level 3 buster shot and jump away from coin drop sword mix ups. Those are the two most deadly things you’ll encounter with Zero. Once his hand starts glowing orange just block. If you get hit ur dead. You can’t really air throw him that often either because his swords protect him from air throws AFAIK. He basically has everything he needs to win its just if you hit him he should be off the screen gone.
I think this is the most vital piece of information, kill the little prick when you get him in a combo, lol.
Another thing I learned is never, NEVER use any slice moves against Zero (except OTG ankle slice obviously). They WILL NOT WORK, lol. Unless you’ve got some perfectly placed assist that will 100% cover you doing it, it just is never worth it to even try. Wait for them to whiff a launcher, jump back talon dive L (even this is too risky if Zero goes to the air, and it has a high chance of trade), just don’t freakin slice or you’ll regret it. It’s a very bad habit of mine and I am so free when I do it.
I use Tron assist so I just advancing guard and wait for the flames to come along Of course advancing guard ruins his hienkyaku H mix-up too, so it’s never a bad idea.
well-placed dives destroy Zero’s offense, it helps if you have a good assist.
s.M and s.H are also good against him from far, although staying on the ground against him isnt your best option.
I tried out the L mirage feint cancel by holding l+s during the feint for a second, like DevilJin said. The cancel is pretty easy to do if done that way, but I still haven’t applied it in an actual match. Now I can see why ppl think it has a lot of potential. Has anyone used it in a match yet?
I use the feint cancel like DevilJin told the X-23 forums a while back, for advancing guard trapping, similar to blowing up crouch techs in SSF4. Leaves you at an advantage on block and if they mistime advancing guard, they’ll get a normal to come out which could lead to them getting hit. I usually go directly into an M(which seems to blow up lows as well) and go from there really.
I also use the cancel for pokes like sweep and H. Cancels the recovery on them which makes them pretty much safe to throw out from afar and with H, it’s easier to hit-confirm into a small loop.
My brother basically has better execution than I do (can do the Captain America infinite for 50 plus hits pretty reliably) and he’s already put together really sick block strings that no one else is really doing. I still need to work on my overall execution with her so I stop dropping combos after the block strings but being a Melty Blood and Guilty Gear player he pretty much just lands death combos anytime he hits you while he’s sitting on that crazy frame advantage. It’s really scary once she gets in and block strings with c.M’s and s.H feint hold cancels because they easily set up wave dash throw games to put you in more mix ups and if you get hit especially with DHC reset its basically lights out for your character. Even if he doesn’t do that you’re still losing most of your life to DHC into 2nd character. It’s like having to deal with a Wolverine that has infinite block strings once they get in. Even if u try to push block she can easily L feint to stay in or use your advance guard against you and M feint to create 50/50 cross.
The way that my brother and I were playing X23 was basically crazier than any of the stuff people are doing in videos with her and I’m sure a lot of it is probably stuff some underground Japanese are already doing. It’s just now that we know enough about fighting games in general it was easier to figure out. I literally just told him about the feint cancel stuff and then he just like went wild with it basically LOL. When people like Tatsu and TenStars who are regularly playing in tourneys puts all this shit together…it’s gonna get stupid.
I was gonna see if I can get both of us to another local tournament to show off some stuff before he leaves out for the Navy in a couple weeks but if not (and no one’s still really doing the stuff we’re doing on video) then I’ll just put a video out of the shit. The feint cancel hold techniques plus DHC glitch make her much less reliant on assist because you can get block stringed forever once she gets in and if you get touched you’re just dead with DHC glitch. No having to do mix ups with unblockable assists or worry so much about covering yourself with a projectile assist. Just land one hit in the air or ground and then its over. Which of course still gets better with the coverage of assists. The way things are turning out with her I dont even think landing her command grab is going to be much of a priority anymore. She’s literally like pretty much top tier IMO just with all of this stuff that got discovered even if people never figure out anything else (which I’m sure they will with how crazy this character is).
I’ve been blowing people up online with my intermediate x-23 gameplay. I think a lot of players are underestimating/overlooking her at the moment, which is getting me wins since they don’t regularly see what she is capable of. Can’t wait to see how much hate mail I’ll get once I begin to apply MFC. I guess we should enjoy the character now before a pro shows off all that potential she has bottled up and she becomes the new Adon or something.
I’ve also been watching a lot of streams to see what the pros that use her are doing, and I notice a lot of them are still only on the basics (granted many of them have raw talent so a lot of them can get away with under-utilizing her abilities). But I agree, once the pros realize the potential in the mirage feint canceling etc, if they haven’t begun to realize already, we will begin to see a lot more x-23 play in tournaments
Very soon, I think X-23 will be in almost everyone’s teams lol. I think right now, she’s a ridiculous character and I can’t believe I never even clocked for ages. I’m so glad I picked her up, she’s really freaking good and I know I’ll get flak for this, but she’s probably going to replace Wolverine.
Hopefully yipes picks her up. Dat Magneto w/ X-23 would be too much.
I totally agree with this. I think the way the pros are using her is just coming from the fact that the stuff that’s out there is still doing damage for the most part. No one has really gone and explored her great mixups and feints. I think the only “tournament players” that have committed to using her right now is Jimmy P and Hustler Brian (again only using the easy to intermediate stuff). The only scary thing is that she could go the same path as Zero. We’ve all seen what Zero can really do but the only player to really feature him is Marn. There’s a good chance we won’t see true high level X-23 for a long time since the current hot characters are Dante and Wesker.
From what I’ve played so far I feel like X23 can fight Wesker alright as long as she has an assist. She can easily duck and wave dash under shots and combo him and gun or assist call to L teleport is about the scariest thing he has any way. Dante is stupid as fuck for X23 to fight I feel so far. As long as he’s throwing swords there’s not really much I’ve found you can do. Especially if he’s backed with Tron assist its hard to land anything on that fuck. Which if you get tagged by one sword you take 600k. Zero is a similar predicament but at least he has like zero health. LOL.
I dunno X-23 has got some stuff but I feel she’s outclassed by the real top tiers. Why play X-23 when you could play Magneto instead?
man glad to see people hating that zero matchup it’s a pain in the ass for me also.
I play against SHGL a LOT, and a good Zero is one of the most annoying things on the planet. This matchup is 100% air to air, no contest. Any of Zero’s ground pressure can’t be punished if he charges a buster and reacts to a pushblock. Sure, you may be able to random super him out of an air C or something else stupid like that, but it’s unreliable. Her standing C is great as anti-air but it doesn’t beat his air options very well. You need to be up there with him, chipping at him or getting a well placed B Talon Attack into a ground combo. That or air throw forward into a big combo with an OTG assist. Even if he is unsafe, a good player will have a good assist to combat any reaction you can make to his mixups.
When we play, we spend half the match sometimes fighting back and forth with X-23 and Zero doing really small bits of damage against each other. It’s long and tedious. =/
I kind of agree, that’s what most players are going with. You can do ROM combos with Mag, or feint loops with X-23 and he gets much more meter/damage.
Also I thought it was funny, at one point when my team was X-23/Ammy/Sent, we had both the exact same teams/players in both Super and Marvel. Just a fun little thing to notice.
Magneto’s range game is definitely better than X23’s but if X23 gets in she’s the same shit. You die if she hits you and she has a lot of ways to destroy advance guard. With the DHC glitch there’s pretty much no excuse to let the opponent live anymore if you hit them with X23. If they get touched it should be over.
Even without DHC glitch she can definitely do like 650 to 700k with one super.
EDIT: NVM LOL.
Two meters and no X-factor creates an inescapable death for DP? What I can’t get my head around is how you avoid the transformation flash, it seems like that would disrupt anything X-23 does except Rage Trigger with its invincible startup, and that wouldn’t do enough damage to kill…
You can actually use Weapon X Prime to get past her transformation, granted Laura is running forward when she does it. It is NOT a true setup though, the can teleport in that 1 frame period between, but it’s almost guaranteed if you know when it’s coming and time it right. I think his point behind the two meters would require a DHC to kill her, which with that super and almost any other damaging super would cause her death.
It’s slightly risky, and maybe a bit too situational, but definitely possible!
Yeah i was going to test to see how easy it is for her teleport inbetween the transition period. If the window to escape with the teleport is really easy to mash in then the setup may not be that great at high level play. I’ll mess around with it a bit more.
