That’s pretty mean. I really hope this game lets us choose between Japanese and English voices, because they still used that awful voice for Akuma from IV.

Capcom characters have JP and EN voice actors, toggleable on a per character basis like in SF4. Marvel characters only have English VAs.

And it’s not really mean, that’s always the case. Some of the combos in the video do look like they’ll be a bit weird to adjust to… although it’s hard to tell for sure until we get game time.

His Shinku Hadouken seems to have a smaller beam radius than Ryus, so take that. Probably better to be used with combos instead of a punisher.

I don’t think he’ll quite be execution heavy like say, Vipor. He was kinda easy in MvC2…just that lowass health of his if he got hurt…huh. From the looks of things, he looked real close to his MvC2 counter part (Statistically speaking).

He does above average damage and speed, has many tatsu-type string combos…but now, Capcom made his Demon Flip mean something (OTG included) for more strings, Air Zankuu moves really fast now, Air Super Zankuu is OTG from any knockdown now(that’s looks like it’s gonna be his scarier asset), and SGS is actually worth doing now, considering the insane speed and invincibility on it (even if it does 50% dmg). That, and Akuma will still have top 5 worst health in the game, no doubt. Even chipping him did look like it did good damage. Ryu fireball chip look like it did 5% damage alone against Akuma. …And we gotta wait and see more about his ashura warps.

MvC2 Akuma had a weak Demon Kick, weak air zankuu, shitty ashura warps, and not enough damage for his bare-bones tatsu combos. He was fun, no doubt…he just didn’t have properly good offensive tools to continue on with his reasonably high damage, and piss-poor health.

If anything, MvC3 Akuma looks more like his SFIV self. His increased air zankuu’s will make his zoning and runaway annoying (again, if his warps turn out good, that will be even more like old self), he’s got offensive combos galore now, and his low health will composate for it. Really…as an stand alone, individual character goes, he looks strong.

Eh, this has never worked, and I don’t see why it will now. SGS is a grab that’s never grabbed jumping frames.

In the vids, he does the air beam after a normal jump, but does the air barrage after a super-jump. I wonder if that’s the difference. No clue on what makes the ground versions different.

EDIT - looking at the reveal vid, he does the air beam super after a super-jump very close to the ground. I wonder what’s up with the different versions? I also wonder why they gave him the different versions…

And honestly, I have to take back what I said about Ryu not being obsolesced. Akuma takes damage normally, his ground beam looks instant (pay attention to the screen freeze), and he has access to an air beam (normal jump only?). I mean, yeah, Ryu being able to aim Shinkuu is awesome and it does great damage, but I just don’t see how that’s enough to make someone not pick the obviously more versatile Akuma. Seems kinda dumb. I would’ve at least expected lower vitality

More likely rdp-A/B/C. Also, his teleport will probably be dp/rdp-A/B/C+E. After seeing the gameplay I can see even less reason to pick Ryu now. Aiming Shinku =/= all of the crap Akuma has over him and it doesn’t even seem like Akuma’s health is that terrible this time around (at least compared to some other low health characters) Can’t wait to see Akuma in every fucking team online ugh

Well if it’s like SSF4 Super demon, if you’re next to Akuma at the flash then it’s already too late. On top of that what I was thinking about is the invul frames just going through whatever they’re sticking out and grabbing them.

But it wasn’t like that in MvC2. His supers were static.

Jamieson Price would be a sick ass Akuma. That’d make me keep it in english.

WOW… the fact that he can do beam or barrage in air or ground is crazy… and the fact that they actually put his demon flip in a vs game as well as his hop kick which can lead to juggle… >.> <.<… yeeea im hype over a shoto in a versus game I’ll admit it

Personally, I think it’s wrong that they gave him beam supers. If there was one niche Ryu undoubtedly filled, it was him having aimable nigh-instant Shinkuu. If Akuma only had air barrage and ground barrage, Ryu would still have that niche, it would be harder for Akuma to punish at distance, and there’d be a somewhat clearer “zone vs rushdown” dynamic between the two. As is, if you can actually select if you want the beam, air or ground, with Akuma, that just destroys Ryu’s main asset.

Oh well. Not like I’m a Ryu fan anyway.
