MvC3 Viper’s basics are easier than SSFIV Viper, her advanced things are more difficult.
Viper’s the only character I’ve encountered in MvC3 who feels like she’ll need as much/more learning time as an MvC2 character.

I remember when the game was only about a month old and this thread was pretty young.
I said something here along the lines of “Viper is crazy awesome, I wouldn’t be surprised if she ended up at least high tier by the end of the game’s lifespan. The only thing holding her back right now is how execution heavy she is,” and a couple people were disputing how Viper isn’t that great and she doesn’t really require a lot of execution in comparison to others.
Then we learned about her seismo cancels and everything snowballed from there.
Good times. Gotta love how much the game has been evolving.
I’d say that there’s still quite a bit more to learn about most of the characters. But with Viper the glass ceiling is ridiculously high. Every day I come up with a new set-up/mixup or read/see a new techinique.
Not saying it isn’t a strong option but he can cover himself pretty easily as long as he didn’t superjump into the divekick. sj. Divekick can be beat by just dashing under and mashing buttons, smart use of divekick with assist coverage into berserker slash it a bit more annoying and if the assist is akuma there really doesn’t seem to be much you can do.
Probably should look more into lvl 1 xfactor as I use it against magneto teams a lot because it seems when mags dies most teams kinda just lose their effectiveness.
So doing some testing with Wesker the other night, I was able to confirm a suspicion I’d had about the Magic Man. It seems one more interesting “feature” (or bug, depending on who you ask) is that the hitboxes on some of his normals will suddenly get larger for seemingly no reason.
I first noticed this when watching one of Maximillian’s Wesker videos, when he pointed out that Wesker’s 3B will suddenly extend out further than it normally does. I have since observed this happening with at least two other moves - his launcher, which causes it’s horizontal range to be as wide-reaching as Sentinel’s launcher - and his horizontal Samurai Edge gunshot.
Interestingly enough, Samurai Edge seems a bit more predictable than any other. Like clockwork, every 4th shot came out with a considerably larger hitbox. This was observed by pitting Hsien-Ko on one side of the screen and Wesker on the other, set to constantly fire Samurai Edge. Normally, Hsien-Ko’s standing hitbox is short enough for gunshots to pass right over her, but every 4th shot would hit her. I officially coin this phenomena the “Magic Bullet.”
Note that inconsistency on hitboxes may very well likely not be something exclusive to Wesker, though this is so far the only character I’ve personally observed it with.
Doesn’t Hsien-Ko have an animated stance like Felicia? Felicia can be hit with quite a bit of crap during some of her crouching frames that she can’t be hit with during others because she doesn’t hold still enough. Does the Fourth shot have any coincidental timing with one of Hsien-ko’s neutral animations?
Its not a full proof method by any means but a wolverine is bound to get impatient and start throwing them shits out sometime. If you see it once punish it and kill him, one mistake and he should die. I literally will do that against everyone wolverine cuz he is such a bullshit character in even average hands. Play a great one and it becomes silly.
So sexist. My unshaved girlfriends and I are hella-mad.
I don’t believe so.
that was kind of what i was thinking as well. seems like a big coincidence being the fourth shot each time, considering each one that does hit will reset her idle animation. so unless each shot was with random timing it would be hitting her at exactly the same point in her idle animation every time. i might test it tomorrow as well if i remember.
If it is some point in her animation, I can’t seem to tie it to anything specific.
When her head is forward, she gets hit with Wesker’s gun every time. When it’s back or while shes rolling it, it whiffs.
Yup. I am rocking Viper/Dante/Iron Man mostly right now. I lose way more but have infinitely more fun than Gun-teleport cr BCS, MMHS stuff.
Top5 are all pretty equal IMO. If people didn’t care so much about Top5 I would put Zero up there too.
Top Tier = little to no flaws, can play any role or are godlike at their main role.
High Tier = slightly weaker Top Tiers.
Mid Tier = great characters just has one or two flaws holding them back from being High Tier.
Low Tier = slighter weaker Mid Tiers and/or underplayed characters with high potential.
Bottom Tier = several major flaws, outclassed by every other character, no real reason to use them.
Top Tier:
Wolverine
Wesker
Phoenix
Magneto
Dante
High Tier:
Zero
She-Hulk
Amaterasu
Taskmaster
Dormammu
Trish
C. Viper
Mid Tier:
Tron Bonne
Sentinel
Storm
Spencer
X-23
Spiderman
Doctor Doom
Akuma
Low Tier:
Chris
Felicia
Ironman
Super-Skrull
M.O.D.O.K.
Deadpool
Jill
Bottom Tier:
Morrigan
Haggar
Hulk
Chun-Li
Hsien-Ko
Shuma-Gorath
Viewtiful Joe
Arthur
Ryu
Thor
Captain America
Thanks for this, though it still doesn’t explain Wesker’s 3B extending out for no reason.
Wesker is just dumb. I spent like 20 minutes in training mode trying to figure out why the hitbox randomly extends on 2M. No dice. Only thing I found is it extends at least once every 8 2Ms. I got it to extend 2 times in a row somehow.
And once again, Zero deserves to be up there in the top tier. Not sure why everyone is so fixated on making it exclusively top 5. Ryu seems too low as well.
Yeah I don’t really care about Top5. Marvel 2 was Top4 but that was because there was a significant difference between them and everyone else, there really isn’t one in this game yet.
Ryu is that low because to me he’s just a worse Taskmaster. He’s good at sniping assists, doing high damage off air throws, full screen punishes, etc, but so is Taskmaster except a lot better. He’s probably not third worst in the game but I’d still have him as Bottom Tier.
its because he moves forward slightly during 2B
edit: oh wait 3B?? i have no idea why that would extend at all
He suffers from the “why bother using him when you can just use Wolverine”? I am not even sure if he deserves to be a tier below top tier, it just takes too much effort for him to do as much damage as what Ammy and Wolverine can do.
Sort of true but really he takes a dedicated team. He has great matchups but isn’t as much of a stand alone character. I’ve been devising teams that specifically make him shine. He is the Strider of this game.
