MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

Hsien-ko. Arthur. Cap.

I agree, I think that runaway may start to show up in the metagame with Wolverine being popular right now. Which is strange considering that usually defensive style runs games early, MvC3 has been quite the opposite for the most part. Rushdown thus far has been huge in this game. Momentum has been very huge, finding characters that can slow the pace down may be next. Trish is definitely going to see some more use as well as Dorm’s stock going up even more.

Cap does not have low damage, mid screen he can put the hurt on while building good meter to lead to a DHC if needed. Losing the mechanic of the infinite hurt, but not that much, Cap players have found other ways to keep the damage up with Cap.

Replace Cap with Morrigan. Or Joe.

Let’s see here. Assuming wolvie can get to a point where Jam Session/Hidden Missiles is not out and where the traps aren’t gonna catch him and he manages to safely throw out a divekick:

At best, he gets a ground bounce and needs to burn XF to guarantee a kill on trish(worth it imo) and sets up a 50/50 on the character coming in.

At worse, she blocks the divekick, punishes and kills him depending on how high she is.

So pretty much high risk/high reward for wolvie. That’s already a LOT better than most of his other matchups where he’s pretty low risk/high reward and pretty much runs the show.

Ya know Trish got a dive kick too. And imo its like…better than wolvs.

Hell yeah. And it is cancel-able!

…No. But she does have a decent dive kick.

@Renegade:
As stated in that post I’m talking about the first set of tier lists to come out practically all of which rated her in the bottom. I was citing the dramatic difference she’s made and the fact that her tools are still nowhere near fully exploited yet. She’s one of the best if not the best characters in the game.

@xS A M U R A I:
Mashing seismo when you’re good at it is a better game plan than I use with her.

When you’re good at mashing seismo with correct feint and focus dash cancels you get:
Massive amounts of meter
Infinite block stun (Takes more execution to do correctly if they advance guard correctly.)
Free assist kills
100% safety in everything you do assuming you have 1 meter or more
Massive chip

When mashing seismo you get them to block then win the game, but that’s not practical because I have bad execution and most people can’t consistently time their cancels to negate advancing guard.

Seismo is her good normal to throw out there, unless it’s being treated like a normal Viper is being used incorrectly. :frowning: It’s her best poke.
As for stable plans for those without godlike execution my general game plan with her is:

  1. First and foremost prevent bad situations, don’t place yourself ambiugously for Wolvie cross ups, don’t let MODOK or Chris start filling the screen with nonsense etc.
  2. Establish offensive pressure. Depending on who you’re against this is either seismic hammers or rushing down safely with support, either way it’s about putting your enemy in block/hit stun.
  3. Once you’re in control determine whether with your opponents defensive maneuvers if it’s more effective to keep them at a range or RTSD.
  4. Eventually be overcome by greed and RTSD killing all 3 characters instead of being safe and killing all 3 characters. >.>

Exactly. Trish’s dive kick doesn’t ground bounce from the top of the screen.

If she hits air to air with it she can go into hop scotch loops to do the equivalent if I’m not mistaken. Its hitbox isn’t as ridiculous as Wolverine’s though.

Some characters do have low damage RELATIVE to others. Every character has a combo that can do a nice chunk but Dantes chunk is bigger than say Chun-Li’s chunk.

@chrisis, even though it seems more theory fighter to me at this point than anything… what is vipers seismo cancel near infinite blockstun string? ie its corner only right? (greatly weakens it) and also what is its notation? i tried it out in training mode with just seismo xn but i got pushed out everytime… so just wondering what its exact uses/notations/screen prohibitions are.

Getting someone to the corner with Viper isn’t hard at all.

^^^they are ususally dead if you ran them into the corner… so that point seems moot to me…

Then what about the next incoming character? He doesn’t start in the middle.

Having an incoming character getting chipped a stupid amount of life out is pretty good.

Call an assist like Jam Session, Chun Legs, Ammy Cold Star, Doom Missiles or whatever locks them down for a while and they don’t get to pushblock.

Would be kinda funny if they did though… Haggar just falls out of the sky, “PIPE”

Captain America can do 700k one meter.

Joe can do 600k one meter.

Sure they’re not high on the tier list but they can hurt you. You dont wanna get hit by them more than anybody else. I feel that when more is figured out about Morrigan’s execution and her abilities in astral vision her damage will go up also.

Glad im not the only one seeing this.
I play her in SF4 and saw that that was all hype.
this time her tools feel ridiculously different for some reason, probably because im too used to her sf4 incarnation.
